You guys heading up to Kent have a duty. This is a big important game. Three years ago, my senior year, we took a busload up to Kent State. Though we lost the game, we took satisfaction in knowing we were WAY louder than Kent's student section, which was at least five times larger than what we brought. Y'all need to be loud and boisterous on every possession. Will Ohio on to the win.

Be loud, get crazy, just remember you're the visitors.  We always get complimented by home fans wherever we go.  Keep that streak going.

I was there your senior year, Drew, and I'll be back today.  Can't wait for it!  And we'll make sure to pick up The Post after we are finished with it .

We've had a solid mix of compliments and complaints the last couple trips...  People are impressed by how well we travel, but don't like some of our cheering.

I've seen crazier things happen.

There's a difference between people complaining because we're loud and people complaining because we're inappropriate.  We rarely get the latter.

Other than the "you suck" cheer, I'd have to agree with Dragon.  Sure would be nice though if that would could go by the wayside.  Not much fun hearing the kids in preschool repeating it after they've been to a game.

I never understood why parents have a problem with kids saying "sucks."

Seriously.  I don't see any difference between "you stink" and "you suck."  I never have, and nobody's ever explained to me why it's wrong.

Seriously?

Think allegation of fellatio vs. stating that one does not smell well.
Think an act in privacy vs. venturing out in public in a controllable condition.

Suck, as you guys use it, is a slang use meaning to be objectionable or inadequate.  It polite circles and civil circles it is considered in bad taste.  i honestly believe that most in attendance in the Convo for games would be glad to see it go away.  McDavis and Schauss are certainly counted in that group.

When is the last time you have seen a student running in a "polite circle?" Also, public institution, public arena, freedom of speech, blah, blah, blah.

All the time - the students I've seen in the Sales Center, the folks working the basketball games, those in the Excel sales group and on the girls volleyball team - all fall in that category.  As for freedom of speech, hopefully your parents and teachers taught you that just because you can say it doesn't mean you have to.

I would venture to say that not only are the students you interact with from those groups not your typical students, but they are also most likely interacting with you in a manner  fitting of a professional situation. Not a whole lot of students view attending athletic events as a professional situation.

I think Alan landed one square on your snoot.  Freedom of speech also includes the freedom to not say things that others might find offensive.  Now, I'm one of the greatest of First Amendment advocates, and I react very negatively every time they read that fascist statement about the kinds of speech that they won't tolerate at games.  In other words, you're free to say whatever you want (short of falsely crying "fire" in a crowded theater), but you are also free to be polite and courteous.  Try it sometme, you might find you like it.

I'm sure the visiting teams that come into the Convo would appreciate it as well.

It's offensive to anyone with a modicum of manners.  Would your parents be proud of you for its use?

Also, I'm sure that we can come up with scores of more intelligent and witty things to take its place.

Of course, it is properly used when it follows these four words:  miami, 'kron, kents and Beefalo.

Actually he was little more than insulting in an attempted shell. Now, in the context of this thread, the word sucks is perfectly placed. This is not regarding a place of civil discourse, in those cases, it is not to be used in my opinion. This is regarding its usage by 18-24 year old students, most of which will use it more if you tell them not to. They are perfectly within their rights to use it, which as the point i was trying to make, not about whether or not they should but that they are allowed to, and there is not much anyone can or should do about it. Also, you should follow your own advise, you might like it.

This actually sums up what I was going to say quite well.  Never once have I used "sucks" as a derogatory term thinking it equates with fellatio.  Words change.  Language changes today as it always has.

At least we aren't doing a Wisconsin: "Diebler swallows."

That I would equate with fellatio.
