There's been discussion on this on this thread:

http://www.bobcatattack.com/messageboard/topic.asp?FromPage=2&ForumPID=1&PID=26683

I know a trip to Wright State definitely is on the scheudle, according to antoher thread. Not sure what else, but much is discussed on that thread.

Don't forget the holiday tournament that was discussed on this board: the inaugural Southeastern Ohio Holiday Festival Tournament featuring -- Ohio, Marietta, Muskingum and Rio Grande.  All games at the Convo, with SRO crowds anticipated.

P.S. Bobcat Love has agreed to be the head judge of the Southeastern Ohio Chili and Cornbread Contest to be held in conjunction with the tournament.

I also heard that he was the chairman of The Best Pretzel contest and that parking would not be a problem.

Sure would be nice to get some sort of "name" team at home. I know those days may be gone, but some of my best memories in the Convo are seeing us take on OSU, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Virginia, etc. When it looks like your best non-conference home game is Robert Morris, it might be time to try a new scheduling philosophy.

We were handed that game by the MAC though, we didn't go out and schedule it on our own.

Kansas last year was about a perfect mismatch for us.  They were big and experienced and deep.

I'd play that game every chance possible.  It's tough for us to come up with bigs who can stand with theirs but we can compete.  Sure, we got clocked last year.  But some number of months before that we pounded Georgetown and played well enough against Tennessee on the big stage.

Compete.

Temple was a great home game, and we need more games like that in the Convo. But it has certainly been the exception rather than the rule over the last 5 years.

I understand the challenges behind our football scheduling, but with the shear amount of games and the size of our facility, I think we could do better with basketball. I'm not talking Ohio State, Pitt, and Michigan State, but at least some of the best mid-majors or a few "middling" power conference schools. Southern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Northwestern, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Richmond....schools along those lines.

I know I might sound like a "mile uphill both ways" fuddy-duddy, but it wasn't that long ago that we had nationally recognized teams in the Convo. Off the top of my head, we have had Kentucky, Rhode Island (when they were top 20 material), West Virginia, Wisconsin, Virginia and DePaul in the Convo over the last 12 or so years.

For one Larry Hunter actively sought those games, not sure we do that anymore, and some nice regional teams simply will not come to Athens.

As did his mentor, Jim Snyder.  And, who are these "nice regional teams" who won't come to the Convo?  Have we actually ever asked them?  In general, it seems both our football and basketball scheduling has been going downhill in recent years.  Our football schedule for 2011 is ranked by many experts as close to the worst SOS in the nation.  In basketball we are better than that, but then again there are a lot more Div 1 basketball teams than there are FBS football teams -- about three times as many if I'm remember correctly.  Therefore, in relative terms I'm not sure our basketball schedule is that much better than our football schedule.  Well, at least we play a strong schedule in volleyball!

Dayton, Xavier, Cincinnati, and WVU have refused multiple offers. WVU dropped a contract mid stream after we beat them several times in a row. All those games would be GREAT games in Athens.

In no small part because we have a strong program. We make it worth the big girls' while to play us. Basketball has failed to reach that level.

Mid Level BCS schools, simply have no reason to come play us:

1. We are an above average mid major program.
2. Pain in the ass to get to.
3. Tough place for opposing teams to play, especially with a big name team in town.
4. A win against us does nothing for the program, while a loss hurts.  Why play us on the road, when they can play florida gulf coast at home?
5. The only way it could ever work is if we did like a 3 for 1 deal, thus not forcing a penn state to pay us to come.

I would focus on getting 1 and 1 games with teams like Old Dominion, George Mason, VCU, Creighton, Northern Iowa, Wichita State, Butler, Valpo, Cleveland State, Oakland, Oral Roberts, UAB, Western Kentucky, Utah St, St Mary's, Nevada,  Marshall, Dayton, Xavier, Wright State, Morehead State, Robert Morris, Murray State and others.  You get a lot of these teams on the schedule and the rpi would be top 50 non-conference. You do well vs these teams you have a to feel real good about  our chances in the MAC.  These are the top bracket buster type teams.  Our goal should be to become a team that gets a TV bracketbuster game each year like VCU, Butler and Northern Iowa have done.  That is in our grasp. We aren't gonna be joining the Big East or Big Ten, but we most certainly can compete with these schools most years.

Get your tickets now!! Now that's a game that the casual fan will be clamoring to see.

No offense to our Marietta friends, but really?? A Division III school on the regular season schedule is unacceptable. We're not in the Buckeye Athletic Association anymore.

Kent State @ WVU.  Why not OHIO @ WVU?

I much prefer that over OHIO @ Louisville, or OHIO @ Kansas.

We are confirmed @ Louisville at some point. Saw it on a Louisville board.

Marietta as a regular season game? Fuss did a great job with the schedule last year, and I'm sure this year's will be good - but games like this as regular season games are a fruitless joke. I can list 15 other D-1 schools that could accomplish the same objectives.

And yes, I have no problem being the elitist, big conference, stuffy snob in this case.

WVU will not come to Athens after their last round of A-Town beat downs the Cats gave them.
