Sorry I didn't continue on the thread where this was first brought up, but I couldn't find it quickly. As mentioned by others on this site, I chose to do a FOIA request for Coach Boals's contract. Sharon Angle, from the Office of Legal Affairs sent it to me a couple of weeks back. Here are the basic highlights (I'd happily share the document with anyone, I just don't know how to post it).

On July 1, 2021, an amendment to the original contract was signed by Coach Boals and Julie Cromer. The new contract runs through April 1, 2028, however there is language within this contract that there would be three dates where there would be a review of performance to discuss renewal or extension. One of those just occurred, so there may be a more up-to-date contract (dates for review were/are April 2022, April 2024, and April 2026). Base salary is $581,000 with an additional $100,000 for marketing and other duties. There are performance bonuses that can be reached annually.

I believe that the following bonuses were hit this year:
--Winning conference record--$5,000
--(possible/unknown...please no Ezuma jokes) Team reaches annual APR goal--$5,000
--3rd place regular season conference placement--$5,000
Bonus of somewhere between $10,000-$15,000

If he is terminated before May 2025, he would be owed $1 million. June 1, 2025-May 30, 2026 termination would be worth $900,000. Anytime in year six (2026-2027) would be $750,000 owed. If Coach Boals accepts a job elsewhere and terminates the contract himself, he owes the exact same amounts as above for those dates.

Thanks for the inquiry and posting Kevin! I had started to do one myself but got sidetracked.

So minus a poaching we have Jeff through 28. Perfect!

Given the market, that's really a very favorable contract for us.

Why would he be messing with us? There was no press release. No formal announcement. And we have no writers covering the team to ask. When I brought it up in the other thread folks said to file a FOIA. It's a public university.

I thought about it, then decided it wasn’t worth paying the fee.

Because the idea of it is hilarious and a little too on brand for this board.

University did it free of charge. Again, there's a lot more to it than I included, 22 pages in all. If someone would like to dive into it further, feel free to direct message me and I will forward it to you via email.

As to the question mentioned earlier about whether it means more to win the regular season title or the conference championship (seems obvious to me, but remember some discussing it), here's the bonus structure between the two:

--Conference co-championship or championship--$15,000 bonus; $10,000 compensation pool to assistant coaches

--Conference tournament championship--$20,000 bonus to head coach, nothing mentioned for assistant coach compensation pool

--If team makes an appearance in NIT (which used to be tied to conference championship)--$5,000 bonus to head coach

There is not a bonus for making the NCAA tournament as the conference tournament champion, as that is directly part of the conference tournament championship. If the team earns an at-large bid, that is worth an additional $20,000. So, theoretically, the better structure would be an amazing regular season with a conference regular season title ($20,000) and a loss in the MAC Tournament, but earning an at-large bid ($20,000). Each NCAA tournament win is worth additional $15,000 bonus, with other benchmarks available. So, if they played in a 'First Four' game and won, would he be eligible then for a $15,000 bonus?

Yes absolutely. It's a tournament win. Those teams conferences get win shares from the NCAA as well.
