Saw this. Said I didn't think he'd stay in the draft b/c he certainly wasn't a lottery pick.

The extra NIL billz is just icing on the cake for him to come back another year vs. trying a year overseas.

I know the topic subject is a jab at Sears-haters, but he 100% would not be coming back if not for NIL. That is not a criticism, just an acknowledgment how it is absolutely keeping 2nd round talent in college longer. That is at least one good development for college basketball.

Excellent point.

"...age isn't a factor in today's game..."

I don't see how that could be a true statement. I wonder if he meant that age isn't a factor when teams are looking at second round picks or undrafted free agents.

Can we conclude from this that he's getting more $$$ to stay at Alabama than he would have gotten with the NBA? If so, it would seem that regardless of how they try to frame it he's an employee of Crimson Tide U.

'...Age isn't a factor in todays game when you consider I'll make $2M coming back for a National Title run vs fighting through the G-League for $500K.'

Also: 2024's Rookie Scale

Everyone outside the Top 18 will make less than $3M

Unlike first round picks, 2nd round picks are not been guaranteed contracts, and he would have to compete for a roster spot during the NBA Summer League and fight through training camp like JP.

In the immortal words of Princess Elsa, "Let it go."

We got 2 years from Sears, he had an opportunity to go to his home school and take a significant leap up in NIL, competition, and exposure. And so far, it has worked out well for him. You may not like that he left or how he left, but he clearly made a good decision for himself.

Seconded.

Put me down for being the stepping stone for an SEC player of the year candidate all day every day. In fact, I think all SEC PG's should come here first.

The Athletic today has Alabama as #1 after Sears' decision and states: "This is a ridiculously deep roster with arguably the best offensive weapon in the country (Sears) and enviable athleticism and positional size."

I know that Sears didn't exactly leave with the same sort of thankful announcement as some of the other transfers but I don't get the Sears hate. Some of you guys sound like a jealous jilted ex. I'm sure there are many other more important factors in deciding where to transfer but I'm sure that a lot of transfers do a lot of due diligence. This site isn't exactly hard to find when you search on Ohio basketball and a hate filled title like this isn't exactly buried within all the other text on the message board. I wouldn't be shocked at all if some of the potential transfers have seen it. It probably isn't a big deal but it can't be helpful.

He could easily end up spending most of the NBA season in the G-league and he's the best player on one of the best college teams. Coming back might have been the right decision before NIL.

JSF's subject was sarcasm if you didn't know, and not one person has said anything bad about Sears in this thread. Yes, a few have voiced frustration with how he left in previous discussions.

It was sarcasm. Geez, man.

I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to call Mark a terrible human, he was basically a kid who I’m sure felt weird about the situation and was anxious to let somebody down face to face, was being offered a ton of money for the first time in his life with no guarantee he would ever have the opportunity to make it again, and I’m guessing many family members in his ear who didn’t care at all about Ohio University that wanted him close to home and potentially wanted a piece of his money.

Definitely sucks as a Bobcat fan, but give him a break.

"Terrible Human Being" in the context of a program that literally dealt with an accused accessory to murder being in the "wrong place at the wrong time" is a little rich....

For somebody who didn't follow the way in which Sears left, can someone explain what he did that was so upsetting?

Basically Boals flew his Mama in, they had a nice long evening chat including getting him some NIL money, they shook hands and committed on staying at Ohio and the next morning he flew out never to be heard from again.

And again, JSF was being excessively sarcastic for effect with the title of this subject yet somehow we keep on discussing it like it was serious.
