As strictly a mid major/G5 fan when it comes to collegiate sports, the way the men’s sweet 16 group played out will open up some free time for me. This is the first year since 2007 that no team above a 10 seed is involved and I have no desire to watch now and have no interest in outcomes. It would be hard for me to believe that this is not “the new tournament world” too. Boring.

Given the amount of complaining about the transfer portal and NIL, you'd think our roster was being gutted yearly.

In actuality, the transfer portal seems to free up roster spots for us more than anything else. We've lost two very good players -- one of whom ended up a first team All-American and played in the final four, and the other who used a 5th year of eligibility to play for a family friend at UVA. Both are pretty substantial edge-cases.

Carter to Xavier was also on Boals' watch, though another edge case of someone transferring during a coaching change.

Ah, yes, true. He also then came back.

First two rounds were not must-see tv by any means. College basketball, at this level, has always been the haves vs the have nots. Now the gap is even bigger and will continue to grow.

Where I continue to have interest: sports wagering being legal. Without that, I would have watched quite a bit less than I did.

Who doesn't love watching the SEC Tournament twice?

The B1G? If my count is correct, it's 4 v 8.

At this point I'm rooting for BYU, because even though they are in the B12, they are not a blueblood program. And, of course, there's fun in rooting against Arkansas, given its stellar coach, who always seems be one mile ahead of the posse.

Carter left in the coaching change. Hard to lay that totally at Boals, because he did reel him right back in.

Watched about a 3-minute highlight reel of our 2010 win over Georgetown on YouTube. It's indescribable the difference in athleticism on that team compared to ours of today.

The tournament, from my perspective, hasn't changed a whole lot in my time watching (I'm in my 40's). You can get some upsets in the first round, maybe in Round 2, but the more games are played the more the bigger/faster/stronger teams will win. In a single elimination tournament you can have some crazy results for a game, but the odds of the overmatched team winning 3-4-5+ games are almost non-existent. I don't personally think that has changed. If you put these underdogs in a "series" style tournament, best of 5 or 7, almost zero upsets would happen. It's the nature of the beast.

Correct on all points. When that does happen though it makes for great viewing even though we all know those teams are not going to win it all. In that respect the year's tournament has been too predictable and that doesn't make for great TV.

Hate to say it, but it was a pretty darn good SEC Tournament to watch this year.....they played track meet basketball and was pretty solid.

That said, everything else about this era....I agree with. The chemical formula to forming an upset crew in the NCAA is gonna be tough when there is such a premium on competent bigs that rob a team of that depth in the front court to pull a 13-4 or a 12-5 upset. Really will take a Haley's Comet kinda team to come together where you have a ton of guards and wings within your set-up and then find a freshman big that was heavily overlooked.

Spot on. The days of a huge upset in this tournament are ancient history.

Last year a 14 beat a 3, a 13 beat a 4, a 12 beat a 5, and the year before that a non P5 school went to the Final Four.

Please don't give 'em actual facts, BLSS. It's greatly frowned upon here on BA.

That may as well be 25 years ago. Those days are over (ancient history). The haves have never had so much more than the haves nots.
