Just heard from an unsubstantiated source Ohio basketball players are getting paid 100K.
(per year.... Maybe) Question is what are other MAC basketball players getting.

Is that strictly from NIL or is this what they will be paid as a result of the House settlement? I think it's important to differentiate the two.

This stuff will, I believe, be public record soon enough, at least in Ohio. Just need to get a case to the Ohio Supreme Court. Check out Toledo Blade v. University of Toledo Foundation (1992) to see how this might come out. Seems to me that the particulars are pretty close. A non-profit organization separate from a public university but whose sole purpose is to aid that university. In this case it's just the athletic programs, but I don't see that that will carve out any kind of exception.

Prior to this 1992 ruling the Ohio University Foundation asserted, like the UT Foundation, that their records were private. No longer. They are public record!

I cannot imagine this amount being from nil per player. We do not have that level of individual or business donors. Maybe 100k for the entire basketball roster would be more believable to me.

It was over $200K last year for the roster.

Based on the addition of Simmons alone, I'd say it's probably grown quite a bit (or we're allocating a chunk of it to him). He could have gone to Charleston or Oregon State. He's not staying in the MAC for less than $100K.

Based on the above...maybe "some players" are receiving 100K. Musk will get to the bottom of this.

Who's providing this amount of cash for one player? Are any of you fans on this board giving thousands of dollars into a collective, or do we have like a couple of big unknown boosters who care this much about athletics that are giving hundreds of thousands each year? Doesn't seem sustainable to me.

I'm old enough to remember when everyone on this board who leaned even slightly left just loved Elon. I guess the romance is officially over! ;-)

Those who know me best would say I lean more than slightly left. And I for one have never been fond of Musk, once again proving OCF doesn't know what he thinks he knows.

Word is basketball will get 15%of the amount of revenue share that OHIO decides to allot for the programs. As stated, that will all be public record as it will come form the department and not an independent arm.

Well, you always are the odd-ball out. Go back and look at the discussions about self-driving cars and the like. Seems your lefty colleagues were fawning all over him. I was called a Neanderthal for questioning the safety of this then-new technology. For the record, my DNA did show that I had more than the average amount of Neanderthal DNA for one of European descent. So, maybe there was some truth to those allegations! ;-)

Conspiracy theory alert. AJB left town bc we spent all our $ adding Simmons and there wasn't enough leftover for him.

And I'm young enough to know how to search keywords on this site via Google and see that there's basically never been any conversation about Elon Musk on this board.

There was a discussion about driverless cars in which Elon's name came up. I don't recall how many years ago this was, but I'm pretty sure it was after the crash, so it should be preserved. In the context of this discussion several posters mentioned Elon and referred to him in laudatory terms and saw him as a visionary. The reason that I remember this is that that thread (or threads) was the first time I'd ever heard of Elon Musk. Yes, I know, I must live in a cave somewhere, but I'd never heard of the man until he was mentioned on BA.

Here you go: https://www.bobcatattack.com/messageboard/topic.asp?FromP...

Not seeing any discussion of Elon, not seeing you being called a Neanderthal. But I didn't read the whole thing, so maybe I missed it.
