"Failure to reach $10 million over three years could jeopardize a school's membership."

Interesting.

$3M is no paltry sum for these guys. Of course, it's gonna be stretched across 3 years and (mostly) two sports, but I was looking through the compiled data from USAToday and they're not exactly sitting on piles of cash.

Profit from available data (March/24):
Cincy - $7M
Houston - $4.2M
Memphis - $0 (Must do math like we do, have to cover losses with fees and get to flat)
SFU - -$6M (wowsers)
ECU - $800K

As always, will be interesting to see how these schools adapt and if it rolls out to others. Gonna be a lot of capologists added to these front ofices.

What am I missing in the fact that you list Cincinnati? Aren’t they in the Big12

So if the MAC does this, where will we get the additional revenue or what will be cut to provide these payments?

I think we need to come to grips with the reality that Division I at the MAC level (or Sun Belt, MWC or CUSA for that matter) may look drastically different depending on what is approved of with the House Settlement in July. There are some schools that are thinking about dropping sports altogether at lower levels, and Division I schools that are thinking about reclassifying.

Other sports, superfluous athletic department employees, facilities investments, etc.

But the MAC can't afford this, and it would be silliness to pursue it.

Agreed. This take is most interesting and clearly lays out the difference between the haves and the have nothings.
