I seriously question why anyone would want to invest in this degree given the changes we're seeing in collegiate and professional sports. I know a young man who graduated from the program who is essentially a ticket sales whore for IMG. He gets moved from college to college each year and is barely making a living. This year his assigned client isn't playing football so he got furloughed...

But they were employed in the industry, which helps those ratings ;-). You are correct though, many realize its not the career they thought it might be, as they work long hours, low pay in tickets or marketing/promotions, passing out t-shirts and manning kiosks at games and in malls.

While front office jobs go to economics majors from Yale and Stanford.

The thing I've always found fascinating is how Ohio has the top-rated program, yet our very own athletic department doesn't reflect it with a top rated marketing/game day experience. I'm not saying the OUAD is terrible, but they're a long ways off from a top-rated type of experience in my opinion.

I've always wondered the same thing. Seems like the AD's office could utilize this resource in a more effective way. Don't know enough about the inside workings of this relationship. All I know is that the end product doesn't result in a first-class experience that would put the AD's office in that world-class rating.

Just think of the money we could save! No need to have an AD, just name the class president as AD every year, we could do away with all associate AD’s as well and make everything class projects.

Hey, I like that idea. Kind of like Berea College -- all student centered learning.

Berea is a great program and the Boone Tavern is a wonderful to step back in time. I still have and use the skittles game that we bought from the college over 30 years ago.

Did you pick up a hoop and stick at the same time?

Kind of my way of seeing it. Without truly knowing any of the inner workings, it's always felt like there are some missed opportunities to both give student real work experiences and improve the Athletic Dept and/or fan experiences.

Well, the inner workings are that the Sports Ad program students all mostly spend at least 1 year, many times two years working in OHIO Athletics in various departments. Your game day experience, from set up, greeting fans, help desk, ushers, promotions and programming are mostly all run by the Sports Ad program. A solid program, but at the end of the day they are involved at all levels of the event experience.

Thank you for the insight. I knew there was some level of involvement, but I guess I didn't know the details.
