The MAC has suspended its virtual media day that was scheduled for Aug. 3-4 "due to recent events."

That about wraps up any chance for a fall season, no?

I don't think that's true yet, but it's trending that way, in my opinion. I think they are pretty sure they won't have many answers in three weeks.

How can you hold a media day event when you can't provide a definitive answer to everyone's first question?

Trump holds news conferences and doesn't provide any (real) answers. Just follow his lead.

He provides definitive answers. They're just lies.

Someone explain why this is not on the football page.

Because the "volunteer" mods said so.

Because it became about politics, rather than football?

Kind of like the "Another problem with Covid" thread that you started on the football board that's still there?

I went back and looked at it, and maybe I missed it because it's late, but I didn't see anything political in it. It was just posts about covid as they relate to to athletes, and their risks of long term damage, plus a few side-track posts about brain damage and covid parties. I even searched the entire thread, and found no reference to either Presidential candidate.

Media day was cancelled because the only questions that where going to be asked were questions no one can answer.

When a global pandemic shuts down the entire country, including football, it's pretty much impossible to discuss football without the conversation being political. There decisions of politicians are impacting football everyday.

Why the scare quotes? Isn't it pretty clear this site is a labor of love? It's not paying the bills for anybody.

True, but it's a perceived source of power/prestige for the mods. A bit of abuse from time to time.

It's well known that political threads can be found here. It has been that way for years. It's not like the Moderators hide the threads. When they move a thread, they always provide a replacement thread telling people that it has been moved.

I think their job is not easy, and I respect the way they go about doing it. I will give the Moderators the highest possible compliment. Their work is "predictable". If someone posts something informative, but off topic, the thread stays. If someone posts something overtly political, the thread takes the Siberian Express. The rules are consistent, and applied equally, regardless of which side politicizes the debate.

To be honest, I wish that happened in more places. Sports is a place where we can all agree (or at least disagree civilly), whereas politics has increasingly become a place we can never agree. As a Libertarian, I agree with almost all people sometimes, but not all the time, and disagree at times with almost all people as well. I find that nothing constructive comes from most political discussions anymore, as there is too much disagreement on both sides. Thus, let's stick to sports on the sports boards, and let's expect that when politics gets involved, Siberia will be the destination.

While it's easy to forget, we're actually seeing movement towards real bi-partisanship at the moment. The Biden campaign has the support of many Republicans. Governor Kasich will be speaking at the Convention, the Lincoln Project is a group of GOP exiles campaigning actively for Biden. And slowly but surely, Republicans are beginning to break from the Trump admin on his attempts to minimize the Covid crisis.

If polling continues to look like it does, we're going to see more and more of that. Whether you view that as an opportunity to build a bi-partisan coalition or opportunists fleeing a sinking ship is open to interpretation. But for all the hand wringing about extreme partisanship, it's worth remembering that high profile Conservatives are pledging their support for Biden.
