See my comment in another thread. This is not a singular award like it sounds. It's given to multiple recipients each year. So, you may be on to something.

Basically every industry in the world has industry groups that exist for networking, industry research, and conferences. This is in no way unique to Athletic Directors.

Agree 100% and there's nothing wrong with these groups doing it.

The problem is O.U. acting like this is some type of significant, earned accomplishment.

It was entirely predictable that you would minimize such an award. She was given the award and the university is recognizing her accomplishment. Not sure why you have such an axe to grind with her. She seems to have us on the right path with successful coaches at both the football and men's basketball side. Congrats to her on the award.

Its hard to minimize an award, when the organization she got it from doesn't
say what the criteria is for getting it.

I've said since day 1 ,JC seems more interested in furthering her career rather
then helping O.U.

To me, the fact that she was passed over for A.D. at Arkansas, even though she was the Assistant A.D. at the time speaks volumes.
Passed over may be a bit too complimentary
She wasn't even one of the finalists.

Could you please tell me one specific thing she's accomplished to elevate any of
our athletic programs, since she's been here.

Promoting Albin is working.
Hopefully the program keeps going forward without Kurtis at Q.B.

I do think O.U. was way to generous with his contract extension.

She wasn't involved with hiring Boals. So she can't get credit for that program.
None of O.U.'s other athletic programs seem to have shown marked improvement.
In fact some teams seem to have regressed a bit.

Yet here you are, immediately jumping in to do so. Why? Because you take any opportunity available to talk about the things you don't like about Cromer.

Exactly. Before you could rationally hold any opinion about her, you held an opinion about her.

There is so much wrong in that response. She doesn't get any credit for successes of basketball program because she didn't hire the coach? In what world is that the case for a leader not to get the credit of success within a program if they didn't hire all of the talent? She joined OHIO in 2019. We went to the tournament and won a game in 2021. She found a way to retain our coach through that success and over the last couple of years following winning campaigns. During the NIL days, she's helped oversee a program that hasn't been decimated like so many of our rivals by mass exoduses. The ones that have left our program have often moved to significantly larger opportunities (Sears, BVP, Rourke). We've been able to retain most of our success.

We (myself included) trashed the decision to move Albin to the top spot in football. We (myself included) trashed the contract she gave him, until we realized it was absolutely genius in the sense that it really was originally a two-year contract with easy outs for the university if they progress wasn't there. Instead, he's shown pretty impressive success in his short time. After this year, there were rumors of other schools pursuing him and we were able to retain his services.

I don't know the entire scope of the job for an athletic director, but it's far more than just hiring and firing. I know that she's our AD during what has to be the most challenging time for an AD and we haven't seen much turmoil in our programs. She has been at the helm for only five years yet has had to endure COVID, NIL, transfer portals, conference realignment, etc. and our two most noticeable programs are in pretty decent shape....not perfect, but pretty good.

And the fact that she was passed up for an SEC role means she must be bad is rather narrow-minded. She didn't get the role because it went to an experienced athletic director who had been the head of Coastal Carolina (think of where they were in the sports world to where they are now) and Houston (who is now headed to the Big XII). Sometimes teams look past who is on their staff. Urban Meyer wasn't hired at Notre Dame after being on their staff for four years when they decided to hire...then immediately fire...George O'Leary. There are lots of examples of people not being hired from within their organization and going elsewhere to have success. To hold that against her for now seven years seems foolish. I doubt she is the same professional now that she was then anyway.

When O.U. was promoting JC's hire they kept touting her prestige and experience at Arkansas.
Yet she wasn't even one of finalists for their A.D.
That's not saying much of what Arkansas they thought of her.

I think she took the job at O.U. only as a stepping stone to the next rung on her career ladder.

So far she hasn't done anything to change that position.
She's on a lot of outside organizations that do nothing to help O.U.

Her handling of the problems with the wrestling team last year was an example of poor judgement.

In my opinion Shaus was a much better A.D. on all levels.
But I'm not a big enough donor to influence O.U.'s hiring decisions.

Yeah, that's all stuff you said in your last post. And in like 8 posts previously, too.

He knows that! He’s just trying to toss an agenda. His own profession does this same thing.

Actually, if you read my posts you'd see that I agreed 100% with what BLSOS said about industry groups giving awards.
My problem is acting like this is something that was earned.

I can't find anything on the organization's website that gives any indication what the criteria is for winning this award.

No idea what you did in your professional life but anyone, who has a brain, does what is in their own best interests in their current role that also translates into further exposure for future opportunities.

While I don’t share rpbobcat’s sentiments about Cromer, I do see his point that this award is kind of an “everyone gets a trophy” sort of thing. I know of other professions that have organizations like this whose main purpose is to give its members awards that look good to the folks back home. These awards are often based more on your political standing within that organization than actual job-related achievements. .
