A fellow Bobcatattacker, retired teacher, devoted OU alum and ardent athletics supporter sent me this link this morning.  Scroll to the second story.  And we were critical of Akron for hiring Jim Tressel:

I get where you're going with this, Al, but I'm not sure it plays out.  Even with the Dispatch chasing this for a year now, Harris appears to be avoiding all serious trouble and even most insinuations of complicity.  Yes, she resigned suddenly in the middle of the media "storm" (sprinkle) but there wasn't even any real blowback caused by that.

Tressel, on the other hand, had his fingerprints all over a very sordid affair and made inane public statements that made things worse.  Looking back now, maybe Gordon Gee was Tressel's PR adviser, after all.

Was Tressel an Akron grad?

I would not want to be a superintendent of any school............as an Ohio grad not convicted of any crimes I'm sure she would get an invite from most university presidents.

I still think Jimmy got a bad shake at OSU.  He was trying to protect his players who had seemingly committed a violation that some would argue shouldn't be a rule in the first place.  I understand he lied to investigators, but at the end of the day I think he got a raw deal.

Right, because when you write a book about integrity, and sell your self as a paragon of virtue for millions and millions of dollars and then lie to authorities or investigators and get fired, you got a raw deal.  He sold Tosu fans a bill of goods, he is a scheister.  He did not get nearly as much as he deserved.

So you would want him thrown in jail?

I hate OSU as much as the next guy, but trading tats for rings is minor stuff.  I think he was just trying to protect his players.  Was he also trying to save face?  Of course, but he is not this awful criminal.

He cheated to win football games.  I never once suggested he go to jail.  I think if you knowingly break the rules and you lie about it when asked, you should be removed from college athletics for the rest of your life.  If you make a mistake, fine.  If you make a mistake, then lie to cover it up, that is where I lose sympathy for anyone.
