The no. 20 ranked Bobcats have a big home weekend playing rival Miami and preseason MAC pick Bowling Green.

OHIO, 12-2 (2-0) has had a great run so far despite losing All-Mac outside hitter Chelsea Bilger for the season. But RS junior Liis Kullerkann and 2 frosh, Mallory Salis and Katie Horton have stepped up and are a big part of the success so far.

Miami
Redhawk is 8-6, including 2 tough 5 set losses in the MAC to BG & WMU. They always bring their best game here (recall a big upset they had a few years ago in the Convo) but the Cats will be heavy favorites. Friday at 7.

 Bowling Green
Despite their 5-8 record after a horrendous start, the Falcons have won 3 straight including their first 2 MAC matches against Miami and NIU (a sweep). They’re much better than their record and this one could be a war. Saturday at 7.

OHIO has ranked in the top 30 in attendance in the nation for many years. They’ve played 8 straight away games and it would be nice for a huge Convo crowd to welcome them home.

I'll be there tonight. This will be my first match in several years. A 2000ish crowd would be awesome.

If this had been a domestic incident, OHIO VOLLEYBALL would be facing serious charges for the beating which it put on those redhawk.

The bigger game is tonight vs. BGSU(cks). They're typically right up there with us at the top of the MAC...need to get this one before heading on the road next week.

I gather that's a pretty substantial crowd?  What do we typically average?

(More than 'kron and redhawk do for football games is true...but not the answer that I'm looking for.)

Friday's crowd was 1437, Saturday's was stated as 2108.

Crowds can vary depending on a few factors, but the biggest boost usually comes on the weekends you'd expect-Homecoming, Parents Weekend, etc. Home football helps as some alum will catch 2 games. The NC game drew 3874 and that's not unusual for past years. I expected this week's attendance to have been higher but no football plus the big fall student fest probably lowered the numbers.

But  the crowd is primarily community members.  Only when the athletic dept puts on a promo, especially if includes free food, the attendance can go up a lot . They should do more of that because it doesn't take more than a few games watching these ladies to get hooked on OHIO volleyball.

One thing I've noticed as I scan crowds at college volleyball games, they have a much higher number of students  than we do but we have more non-students, which is why we always rank high in home attendance.

It's beyond my understand why we don't have better student support.

Thanks, Jeff.  3784 is a pretty good crowd.  Would love to be there in a crowd of 7-10,000.  VB rocks.

Possible but we might have to be on the top 10.

Makes me scratch my head too.  I wasn't there Saturday night but went Friday and there weren't 100 students there and certainly weren't 1400 in the whole place.  My wife and daughter said "where's everybody at" when we walked in at 7:00.

Sounds like student attendance is lacking.  However I think it's time for the female students on campus to step up and take some responsibility for this.  Hope I don't offend anyone, but here is my reasoning:

- First of all this is a female sport that women have fought for years to have (even at the expense of some men's sports), so they should be supporting their own cause especially when the team is so successful.  You want title IX then how about helping out your women's sports teams by showing up to watch.

- Not a lot of groups of guys are going to plan their night around a volleyball match.  That's just reality.  But if their female friends/girlfriends are going to the games, then I bet you will see the guys show up in mass also.

So women you need to start to show up and drag some guys along with you to the games, and I think a lot more people will get hooked on this team.  Unfortunately the bobcatattack forums are probably 95% male audience, so I'm sure this message will go on deaf ears.

If I'm a college-age male, I can think of a lot of good reasonswhy going to a women's volleyball game is a good idea.

No student is going to shoulder responsibility for not going to games. If college students aren't interested, they're not interested. Sports don't have to be a college student's priority, no matter how attention much we think the ladies deserve.

But in order to be interested, students need to be aware. What will work the best will be the students who do show up talking about it to their friends, inviting them to come to the next one. Word of mouth. Not all of these new attendees will come back, but the more there are individuals giving it a try, the more chances you have for returnees.

Boosting attendance, sounds like a tremendous project for the marketing majors to get their hands on.  Let's see if they're actually learning anything in those classes.

Check out the crowds  at some of the major conferences, SEC, Pac 12, Big 10 (they're on tv more this year), and you might be surprised to see, not only  the large number of male students, but how into the games they are.
