End regular season at 21-10. Still an outside shot for an NCAA bid.

Still have some hope for the NCAA bid.
According the RPI, BG is #52, Ohio # 62. Western#69, NIU #108.

BG has the automatic bid. The next best should be Ohio as the next best RPI school and the regular tournament title.

One thing that got my attention is the service from #4 Karin Bull. Not sure why the coach did not try to sub her with a better server.

I don't believe Karin Bull served in this match.  You may be confusing her with Liis Kullerkann, #13.

I hope it's a soft bubble.

That's correct, John.   Helluva gritty comeback for the win, though.  Especially after taking the first two sets and dropping the next two.

As I stated in another thread, this sophmore and freshman-dominated team has a chance to be really good next year if the ladies continue to progress.  There's also some good looking recruits coming aboard...

Really disappointing that we had to lose at the MAC because the final RPI listing has Ohio at  # 52 and Bowling Green at  # 53.

Disappointing, but only a one-bid year for the MAC.

Thanks to all the seniors -- we will miss you -- Faith, Leah, and Lexie.

Best wishes, Granddad -- been fun seeing you over the last four years.

MAC Championship year -- but we have unfinished business.

2013 -- MAC regular season AND tournament championship should be the goal.  No more at-large...let's take back the MAC!!

Yes, it''s better to win the conference tourney ( always a crapshoot) because it gets you an automatic bid to the NCAA tourney, but the true indicator of the best team in a conference is the regular season champions. And in the MAC, that is OHIO, first of 13 teams. We'll hang that banner next year, 2012 MAC champions.

Congratulations ladies on a fine season.

There are times when we have to take a pause and reflect on just what we are doing and why we are doing them a certain way. It was stated here that the regular season champion is a better indicator of the team that has had the best season. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree. That is just plain common sense. Yet, common sense isn't so common anymore.

We have to remember why we have Conference tournaments. They were introduced in basketball years ago solely as a money-maker. No other reason. It provides an opportunity for the teams to hopefully earn some additional revenue by playing some additional games. Then to provide the incentive for fans to attend the tournament, all of the leagues decided to award the tournament winner the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, instead of awarding it to the regular season champion.

So now lets talk volleyball. Does the Conference tournament generate the significant revenue for the league that would justify its existence? If not, there is no logical reason to have it and the regular season champion should be crowned as the MAC Champion. Period.

To suggest that the only "logical" reason for having a conference tournament is revenue generation is a bit short-sighted.

Another (good) reason::  competitive equity.  Currently, conference teams do not play a double round-robin during the regular season.  You play everyone in your division twice, and the other division once.  Thus, relying solely on the regular season (without a double round-robin) would inherently disfavor the teams in the stronger division -- which, over the last number of years, has been the west (note that three of the four teams that did not make the MAC tournament were from the east:  (Miami, Kent, Buffalo).

Returning to a double round-robin format would then reduce the number of out-of-conference play opportunities, which are necessary to builing your own post-season resume as well as MAC credibility.   If we want the MAC to have multiple bids to the NCAA, we have to be willing and able to play the better teams from around the country.  If you look at Ohio's pre-conference schedule, you will note that it was stacked with heavyweights.  If we could have won a couple of those games early on, we could very well have been looking at an at-large bid (absent a conference tournament championship).

The MAC East division RPI's are (and have been) much weaker than the West division ... In turn, each time Ohio beats a team from the East they gain little lift, if any, in the RPI formula.  On the other hand, the West teams (home and away) benefit from beating each other (last year 4 teams from the West got into the NCAA tournament) on their home courts -- which is typically what happens ... check for yourself.  Maybe it is time for the MAC to "open" the regular season and eliminate the divisions.  In each of the past two seasons, 5 MAC West teams qualified for the MAC post-season tourney and 3 MAC East teams qualified.  While not always the case, Ohio has suffered from weaker competition in the East division.  Regardless, those road wins are always impressive/important as each team in the East wants to knock off the Bobcats.  Next year, Ohio will travel to Western Michigan and Northern Illinois -- and both will be extremely difficult to beat on the road.  In '12 Ohio beat both at the Convo, but earned little recognition for doing so.  As stated previously, the NCAA selection committee appears to rely on RPI only -- which is ridiculous in this day and age of information .... Exhibit 1:  Notre Dame in, Ohio out.  ND lost their final 3 matches .. including the OU match.  Ohio's record was 16-2 down the stretch.  Ohio lost to 7 nationally ranked teams.  Ohio lost to 8 NCAA tournament teams.  And Ohio beat 3 NCAA tournament teams (ND, BGSU and Belmont).  Go Bobcats in '13.

It would be that we did not win any pre-season, non conference teams. What do in 2013? We have a very strong team. Still, there are a few more points to perfect that.
1. Build a strong right side hitter. Could be one of the current middle hitters or a transfer.
2. Serve: We have a pretty good number for aces but we have some number on the bad serve especially on critical points.
3. Teamwork especially in transferring from defense to offense mode. This is what the team has some room to improve.

I believed that we can go to Sweet 16 next year.
