Dropped the 1st to Akron meaning we are toast and cannot grab the 4 seed anymore. Quite the collapse after such an encouraging start to the MAC season.

18-29 so far on the season. 1-9 in league play after winning the Xiami series.
On another note, 47 Homers for the Cats while giving up 70. OUCH

That's one way to look at it. Just shows how big of a gap there is between the top teams and everybody else. The 4-team tournament format is lame, they need to bring it back to 8 teams but that's unlikely I imagine.

I heard on one broadcast that it's supposed to be six teams next year.
Anyway, All-MAC teams are out today, and Ohio did not receive anyone on first team, second team or the defensive team.

You get 11.9 scholarships in the sport of baseball, and you have 35-40 players. If you are getting 30% you are a pretty damn good player. Real fact, Marietta baseball players can go to school cheaper than an OHIO baseball player.

2. Back then, before Title IX football controlled everything with massive scholarship numbers, which hurt all sports not named football and basketball.
3. Baseball had 4 scholarships, and they were split.
4. This is the day when student-athletes could work for money (some places, they'd be called the no-show jobs), but, at Ohio they would work in the dining halls for books, sell programs at basketball/football games, ect to earn their keep.

Thanks, BTC, I knew that you'd come through if no one else did. So, we went to the CWS with 4 scholarships split X number of ways. Very interesting. I remember when football and basketball players used to work in the dining halls. Today they seem to be treated more as bunch of prima donne.

That would be correct, 4 scholarships, however, a guy like Coach Wren was very well tied in the community, those jobs were serving a purpose. We also had several quality JUCO's filling out that roster who could flat out play.

I knew Coach Wren, not well, but I did have a few interactions with him. More when he had retired from coaching into his last job at the university which, as I recall, was in the admission's office. I had a few business meetings with him circa 1980 in which we discussed some interfacing with the medical school. I don't remember any of the details. But, while I was growing up I attended many games that the Grey Eagle (one of his nicknames) coached, and in which his son, now a poster here on BA, was the "ball boy" who would run around retrieving foul balls, etc.
I believe Coach Wren at one time lead the nation among then-active coaches in terms of the number of his former players who were playing pro baseball at the major and minor league level. He was a great person and a great coach!

Full rides are almost unheard of in NCAA baseball. If someone is that good to justify such a huge chunk of a small allotment, they'd probably be a 1st round draft pick out of HS and not going to college. The sport has seemingly grown in recent years so I hope they consider upping the allotment. I believe baseball is #4 in revenue behind Football/Basketball (obviously) and hockey...and I think there is a pretty huge gap between #4 and #5 (whatever that may be).

Until they cut football scholarships from 85, I wouldn't hold my breath on baseball getting more. However, at the bigger schools, NIL money is flush for baseball programs (flush for what some may think).

You should have seen the howl from coaches at Big Time programs when they reduced it from 105 to 95 and then to 85. Each time they acted like it was the end of the world. However, the world and football are still here. I agree that a lower limit would be good at this time, but I don't look for it happening as the NCAA is rather toothless at this point.

I suspect that you are right about that. For some schools scholarships are going to be very secondary to NIL deals.
I suspect that in the next few years there will be at least one G5 school that will build a national championship caliber team by very lucrative NIL deals financed by very rich alumni. We are now in the era of semi-pro football teams loosely affiliated with purported educational institutions.
