Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Miami and Kent offered as well. The kid grew 2 inches his senior year.

This looks like a quality signing on the fly. I'm curious to learn if John Groce was recruiting him for Akron, being they both were in the state of Illinois. The capsule below is from the Chicago Sun Times 2017 all-area team. Judging from the picture the Sun Times ran (link listed below), Teyvion has BIG TIME hops!!!

TEYVION KIRK
Senior G, 6-3, Joliet West
Uncommitted. One of the season’s breakout stars, the point guard averaged 19 points, four rebounds and three assists. Teamed with Trevian Bell to lead Tigers to 25-3 record and Southwest Prairie title. Has more than a dozen Division I scholarship offers. All-Tournament at Pontiac.

Can't really tell from this video if Teyvion has a consistent outside shot. But it's readily apparent he can go! I'm excited about the prospect of two quick, athletic, long, get-to-the-rim 6-4 guards eventually teaming in the backcourt in Teyvion and Zach Butler.

I think this kid can make an impact. I really hope he's not the replacement answer for Jaaron leaving. I know that's morose to think about but...

The kid is smooth. I think that gives us an outstanding core of guards with Simmons, Butler, Darty, Kirk and even Gollon. It allows Laster to play the 3 more but he can also be a big 2. Now we need a grad transfer or JUCO big man of some kind. Someone in the post who will rebound and defend. If we get that we are golden.

Check out the kid posting up early in this video:

I have no idea what's in Jaaron Simmons' mind. But I do believe a player of his caliber would not want to play four years of college ball without ever getting to the Big Dance, if there was something he could do about it, which, in this case, he can. I would think he'd return if Tony Campbell gets another year, which is unlikely. So I continue to pound the drums loudly that we've GOT to get a big who can step in and play right away with a skill set that includes low-post scoring, rebounding and rim protection. Without that, I'm not confident that Jaaron will return.

Love to see a PG that changes what he does when he penetrates. Lots of easy buckets for his bigs. Like that he looked comfortable with both hands in passing and scoring at the rim. Even if Jaaron stays this was an important get.

While you're pounding that drum, maybe you can help find the trees you think that kind of player grows on that Ohio will easily find a ready to go big (not named Tony Campbell) in April or May. Every single school with several scholarships to give is after that guy, and there aren't that many to sign that can be a do everything big.

Agree with you both here. I like the idea of these two together. We might be seeing a lot more of a 3-guard look in future years as a result of these two.

I can't wait to see Kirk and Butler playing side-by-side. Two 6'4 guys who can both handle the ball will be a matchup nightmare for other MAC teams.

How about a Butler, Laster, Kirk, Vander Plas, Carter look? You've got 3 capable ballhandlers with Vander Plas and Carter being bigs who can step out. Could be a nice change of pace group when Darty and Simmons need rest.

So we've got Teyvion, and recruiting Taevion Kinsey out of Columbus. Is there a Tayvion anywhere to be found? Triple Taeyvs.

List of offers is impressive. Another smart, smart player:

Green Bay
Denver
American
Brown
UC Davis
Duquesne
Chicago State
Drake
Southern Illinois
Kent State
Milwaukee
Bethune Cookman
Miami, OH
Hofstra
Montana State
Northern Illinois
Middle Tennessee
UTEP
Arkansas
St. Bonaventure

Final four was down to Ohio, MTSU, St. Bonaventure and Arkansas. That's a big time get.

Same AAU team/coach as Gavin Block.

We've got more scholarships to give out. Patience, young grasshopper. Saul has been quoted as saying at one of the Caravans he wants a nasty big. I have a feeling this pickup is a nice plan to have in place just in case Jaaron decides to bolt. Plus two 6'4" guards on the outside who can handle and give to those bigs? I'll take that all damn day.

Really has a knack for finishing with the hand that is opposite of the defender, both right and left. That's not easy to do on the fly in the middle of your jump off the wrong foot.

Point well, taken, OU Van. But I contend the coaching staff has got to diligently try to get this done, and it may require some creativity. The best option may turn out to be a grad transfer from a major program who always as a reserve, but still has an upside. Meaning, a guy who could play a lot for us but would remain a quality bench player at his current school because they've always recruited over him.

I think there are several grad transfers out there that would potentially be good fits. Do they want to come to Athens, or aspire for a "bigger" conference? I'd like to see them find this guys you want, and Saul wants. I'm just suggesting they don't grow on trees and aren't easy to find in the Spring (in my opinion). Especially if the intent is that they contribute big minutes right away.
