I've heard good cases made for each of these. Ultimately, I think Saul goes with another wing even though the need certainly appears to be there for both another point guard and another big man.

I'm comfortable with best available.

I've seen crazier things happen.

When you watch mid-major teams that do well in the tournament, they almost always have multiple players that can truly handle the ball. OUr 2012 Sweet 16 team was a good example. For that reason, and the reason that I think getting Jaaron a touch more rest, I think a PG, or wing that is able to handle the ball is necessary.

I can see the argument for a big to jump in when Tony and Kaminski graduate. By Saul & Co's design, it's my gut feeling that Taylor, Dozier, and Carter are already in place to be ready for when they graduate. Just my opinion/gut feeling.

We need a wing that can consistently score the basketball. That will give Tone more space to work, KK extra space and open looks for bench players. A Nick Kellogg, Sonny Johnson type would be perfect.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I have no idea what Saul and company are gonna do. They've pulled some rabbits out of their hats so far where we all thought they might go one way and they went completely different.

I would like another PG, but if we're recruiting one for 2017 then maybe this scholly should go elsewhere. Still, I'm with Country in that I don't like Jaaron not having a capable backup. I think Jordy could be, but it looks like the staff is set on having him at the 2. Or Gollon needs to make some headway in the offseason.

I think another question is does Ohio find a quality freshman still, go after a JUCO or a transfer? Maybe none if a good enough player is not found.

Here's another thought related to the number of point guards, or combo guards, a team really needs. They might need at least enough to match up against teams they're going to be competing against to win their conference.

Compare Akron, who already has Robotham, Jackson, Williams, and added another 2016 commit at PG.

Toledo, who had freshmen Sanford, and Nick Rogers, and 2016 Rivals 3* commit Justin Roberts.

Buffalo's guards have been documented on here recently as well. NIU has two new commits for 2016 at the PG position. WMU has wilder, plus a couple commits at the 1 & 2.

I think it's easy to see where I'm going here, and I think it's worthy of consideration that another effective player at the 1/2 is needed. That could be in the form of James Gollon, or Mike Laster. If I were the coach, I'd hedge my bets and bring in someone in case they aren't that guy.

I think it will difficult to get a "good" PG who wants to come here with Simmons in front of him for the next two years. I don't see a lot of playing time with the way it's going right now. Now in another year, maybe more likely.

I can see that point of view, however, Dambrot has managed to get three guys, with one more on the way, that all fit in the point guard mold out of high school. Noah Robotham, Antino Jackson, and Josh Williams are all HS point guards. And they all played a lot last year, with 2 of them on the floor at the same time quite often. One would think it's possible that Saul could do the same thing with Simmons, Dartis, and a potential recruit, or Gollon. That's assuming he would want operate that way.

So the season is over, and thanks to this board, I'm now a hoops recruiting follower. With the first day of the Spring signing period about 3 weeks away, starting April 13th, I'm more than interested to see how that last scholly gets used.

All are wing players with whom we have opened contact or are from in-state and are still available.

Andre Wesson gets an offer from o$u yesterday with offers already from X and Akron. Younger brother Caleb, with one year left in high school, has already committed to o$u.

I saw Hughes at the state tourney and he did not look right. His leg was wrapped and he did not appear to be moving at 100%. I don't think he backed out of a Louisville scholy to come to a MAC school, although reading between the lines, one could surmise that Petino wanted him to go to a prep school.

I hope we are still involved with Culver. I believe we are his best offer, and that includes Bradley.

Andre Wesson would be a great fit at a MAC school, but he wants to go bigger time. Funny how he said he wanted an offer from OSU, but so far has failed to accept after it was made this week. I don't know how much he'd play there next year.

I saw his brother, Kaleb, play several times this year, and I bet Matta wishes he never offered the kid. Out of shape, can't jump, didn't play well at state tourney. He was so flat footed that I wonder if he ever really recovered from a midseason foot injury. Reminds me a lot of Isaiah Johnson at Akron. It took him 3 years to get into decent enough shape to play more than a few mins a game. I would really lose faith in our coaches if we offered this kid.

A lot of people at the state tourney were excited about the p.g. on the DIII champ, Lima Central Catholic. Name is Tre Cobbs. Unsigned with oodles of potential...

I heard about Cobbs around State semi's time, and he is intriguing. Only offer from Cleveland State according to this:

My reading between the lines would be that Pitino is on thin ice.

In a way, it looks like we need a new poll and thread with two more schollies to use instead of one more.

Is this a spot where, with one of the scholarships, Saul adds a one year/two year transfer who can play immediately?

Maybe instead they look for a transfer that has to sit for a year, or redshirt an incoming frosh?

One thing to track is scholarships per year. I like how Saul is starting to flatten them a little. As of now, for next year we have:

2 seniors
3 juniors
5 sophomores (though really 4 since Dozier is a redshirt)
3 freshmen (4 with Dozier as a redshirt)

Adding a transfer obviously alters this - would hate to see the soph class rise to 5 players again.

It seems like a real possibility that the extra scholly could just be held onto for next fall, giving them three for next year.
