Agreed. He gets to play major college basketball a little over an hour from his hometown. I don't think there's much more chance he sits the bench there than here. Sounds like a good decision for the kid.

Or perhaps he has actually seen the kid play, evaluated him against the talent he has seen in our gym and thinks the talent level is belwo what is expected fro either us or UD. I read it as a innocent statement that said he was not that talented and would not get off the bench if Dayton continues to up the ante with their program and recruiting. I also read that he is OK with this in the light of what we got coming in. Unless RS tells me he was actually sniping at the kid I am taking him at his word that this is not a miss but a blessing.

If He was such a good evaluator of talent why is he not making a living doing it? It's just another cheap shot a kid who failed to choose OHIO, IMO

St Henry has had a long and impressive linage of big time athletes come through that tiny town. Never underestimate their athletes.

You can't simply assume everyone who disapproves of a certain player is "bashing" a kid for not choosing Ohio. He's seen the kid play and doesn't like his game. Who cares if he isn't a professional talent evaluator? You don't have to be to know a kid can or can't play, or dislike their game. C'mon man.

I know Dayton had C Kurt Huelsman (2007-10) from St. Henry.  He wasn't great but a solid 4-year contributor.

Such a shame that this young man did not choose Ohio.  He is an outstanding young man that will certainly be highly successful in whatever his future off the court interests hold.  He is from an outstanding school with passionate and caring teachers and coaches, led by highly professional administrators that focus on building quality young adults.  As favorable his school, it can not match the caring and thoughtful family of which he comes.  They are pillars of the community and are doing a great job of raising their son.  But we all know it take a village.  His neighbor's also deserve credit.  Many have adopted rescue pets, and all are known for handing out plentiful and high quality candy at Halloween, even to those young teens that dress as baseball players and show up later in the evening.

That said, it appears from those that have actually seen the young man play, that his off the court stature and  value of being a quality kid who always raises his hand before speaking in class, does not translate to his on the court prowess.  While we wish him well in whatever his future endeavors, it appears his basketball ability does not match the level of skill that many of the other players we are are pursuing possess.  Therefore, while we hate to lose any quality young student from being a member of our esteemed student body, it is probably for the best that we do not use one of our limited and precious scholarships on this young man.

Doubt you've seen him play much. Otherwise I suspect you'd not have posted the original comments. Time will tell ....

I have only seen video - stats - and know pretty well the league (D3) he plays in. I am just not that impressed with his skills. My point is I don't think this was much of a miss.

Fantastic.

There's nothing wrong with giving an opinion that a player isn't going to pan out as a Division I basketball player, but I think the original comment unintentionally came off as being bitter that the player chose another school. Now it is apparent that is not what was meant.

I don't know anything about Mikesell, but I will say that the conference St. Henry is in is probably the best small-school conference in all of Ohio. This is especially true for football but other sports as well.

The MAC has won more state titles than any other league in Ohio, St Henry has 4 basketball titles, which sits them pretty high on the states food chain. As a school St Henry has 20 State Team titles, which is more than the entire SE District has in 70+ schools.
