What is your "gut" feeling about the quality of this class?

I gave the class a high grade.  Mainly due to the circumstances.  Landing a kid likeTaylor who was holding out for an offer from top 5 Michigan is a big, big deal.  Jaaron Simmons is a very solid PG transfer pick up.  Keeping Crute is huge.  Laster is the unknown for me.  Kind of reminds me of when we signed TJ Hall.  Hall didn't get much publicity and was a solid contributor and could have been more if his legs didn't revolt on him.

Phillips and company stabilized things pretty darn quickly.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

For this reason, I give a B.  Obviously this is like an NFL Draft grade, and means zero until we see what kinds of players and students the class is.  I guess my hope was that there would also end up being a big somewhere in this group as well.

Given the circumstances, it was pretty good. If the circumstances were normal, it'd probably rate somewhat below average. That makes this a hard question to answer.

Taylor stated publicly that Michigan was his first choice but he didn't commit there because Michigan never offered, not because we stole him. Besides Ohio he had zero other offers, it was either us or nothing. Given those circumstances landing him was most certainly not a "big, big deal."

With that being said Taylor and Laster appear to be decent adds. As true freshmen next year they likely won't produce at the level of the JUCO recruits they are replacing but long term I think they have the potential to be solid additions.

Keeping Crute is a plus, he appears to be the early pick for heir apparent to the Tunji-Stevie-Setty line of players who most bleeds Green and White.

Losing Owens was tough but in the long run 3 years of Simmons might be more impactful to the program than 4 years of Owens. Not a bad trade off.

Also worth noting is the recruiting moves SP and staff DIDN'T make- we didn't have to recruit anyone to replace a player that transferred because no player transferred. Credit goes for getting 100% of current players to stay through the coaching change. Also, credit for not adding players for the sake of short term fixes. Perez would have been a warm body for next year but long term we don't need another 6'4 wing.

Based on the moves that were made, and not made, I give the class a solid B. If we had landed Shamburger I would have given a B+.

I think Shamburger pursued us, not vice versa.

This is like a situation where a student comes into a course three fourths of the way through the class and has to catch up.  In light of that, I think this staff did a very commendable job with their committments received.

On Ryan Taylor only having the offer from Ohio...the fact that Michigan and Wisconsin were interested makes it very strange that Ohio was his only other offer.  If someone knows why, I'd love to know.  I DO know that Coach Phillips is VERY high on him.
