Just one more time I would love to see a very highly rated kid out of high school “pull a Walter Luckett” and basically say “you know what, I’m going to go to a good, albeit smaller Ohio program, where there are great coaches, who can continue to develop my skills, and a 13,000 seat arena. A place where I can be a big fish in a smaller pond and become a legend rather than just another great player who went to “school X” who is somewhat lost in history.” I’d anticipate he’d initially get more attention nationally just for making such a bold move. Heck, the player might even make the cover of Sports Illustrated. ;)

I suppose with NIL it becomes even less likely for that to happen in this day and age and would probably have to be someone with few financial needs going to school too. Uh oh…I think the potential population for this to happen is shrinking. Oh well I’ll hope and dream for it to happen anyway.

Not in this era....that's for sure.

But good for Boals to shoot his shot. We don't have a prayer.

Though rare, I think its still possible. The lure of being the player who puts a school "on the map" has to have appeal to some players. The key is finding that guy. I'm not as cynical as some on here. I still believe that players with that mindset do exist on the current landscape, be they few and far between. The key to our recruiting though is to continue to find those diamonds-in-rough and develop them. And, to try and narrow our focus those rough diamonds who when polished up will have some sense of loyalty to the polisher and his school. Those guys also exist, but they are a small subset of the rough diamond population. Recruiting these days is getting trickier and trickier.

The change that I do think provides a glimmer of hope, OCF, is the ability to transfer without sitting out. Perhaps a kid would think he’d try it for a year to see how it goes. Keeping them then becomes the issue.

He most likely won't get this one...but, from a marketing standpoint, its good for Ohio to be in the discussion on these highly rated prospects. I like that Boals goes for it.

Why go to a P5 and sit behind a bunch of 5th year Seniors when you can come take a gap year in Athens?

I've seen crazier things happen.

I actually saw Raleigh play last night against Princeton. Hard to get a good read on his skill just based on how the game went. First Sycamore possession, he powered through his defender and Shaq-slammed it. From there Princeton committed to double and triple teaming his post touches, so he got very few good looks. Ended up fouling out.

Best thing I could say about him is he looks plenty comfortable in his body already. Some places list him 6'11" which I think is generous. Solidly 6'9" for sure at least. Probably around 210 lbs. Very bouncy and can run the floor like a gazelle. Physically he looks like a late stage Ivo Baltic.

I'd like to see him against someone who has a post player who could guard him one on one. This performance was skewed.

Princeton has a nice lead guard named Keven Adorno who I learned is in Puerto Rico's youth FIBA program. He really imposed his will on the game. Alpha dog type. Keep an eye out.

This may not be such a long shot with NIL. All you need is a good coach and a rich booster.

Hmmmm. I think Lower.com should start marketing to 18-22 year olds. I'm sure Ohio Bobcat student athletes could help with that....

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

Broken leg. Done for the year. Huge blow for Sycamore who had their best deep tournament run potential in a long time.

Nowadays or in the immediate future, there’s not 1 P-6 team in the country that has a bunch of 5th year seniors.

No, but if you're going to Purdue, you're very likely going to sit to start your career. They still operate as close to old school as any school in the country does.

Also likely they'll be bounced in the first round (second round at best) by a lower seed in the big dance.
