When OHIO kicks off at the start of a half, or after a score, it's time to add a little school spirit. The customary OOOOOOooooooooooo O! should be followed by a __H __I__O! If you've ever been to an OU volleyball game, it's exactly what they do on the final match point. If you've ever been to an Ohio State game, it's exactly what they do on kickoffs.

It just makes plain good sense to do it. After all, we are Ohio. It's the perfect amount of time it takes the ball to get to the return man. It reinforces who we are. And it sounds great in a packed stadium with full support.

I gave a valiant effort yesterday to get it started. There was a small contingency following along, but only within the radius of my shouting voice. By the end of the game even the cheerleaders were helping me out. It takes time I know, but I need the Ozone's support!  Next week I'll try and persuade the band to follow suit.

I did get a couple kids try and contest my plea with, "Hey that's what Ohio State does!" That is a flat out pathetic response. We are Ohio. Literally. It is our choice to do this. It sounds good. It makes good sense. And it goes further to brand the name Ohio with Green and White. I have no reservations about doing this even though Ohio State does. In my mind, they're ridiculous for even attempting it (imagine Utah State chanting U T A H. LOL).

Adding this caveat to the kickoffs will go a long way to change the perception of who actually has the right to the name Ohio.

I'm torn on it.  Whether you think it a weak response or not, it is exactly what Ohio State does and does sound like we're ripping them off.  National perception knows Ohio State has done it for a long time.  I was probably one of the people you heard say that.

However, you do have good points about it.  If it's what they do at volleyball games and we move it to football, it would be great to hear it done at ALL sports, not just football.

I'm fine with what they do now, but I'm certainly not against this.

I was thinking along similar lines at last week's game.  I don't think we want to do the O... H... I.... O...

I want to make it our own.  I like the OU... O-YEAH chant.  But how about we break that up into O.....   U.....  O..... Yeah....

After a long OOOOooooooooooOOOO (kick)   U.....   O.....  Yeah!

Don't be confused.  I don't want to do the OU.OHYEAH.  I want this broken into syllable pauses similar to tOSU's O...    H...    I...    O....

What will it take to get our cheerleaders to buy into this?  At home games, we can swing this chant around all of Peden (even without kickoffs.)  I picture cheerleaders on the 30 yard lines, both sides of the field.   Start this in the South West 30 yard line with an O.  Followed by the NW 30 yard line with a U.  Then Students NE 30 erupt with Oh, and SE Students finish with a YEAH!  I can hear this echoeing around the stadium with goose-bumps on the back of my neck.

Thoughts?

More than likely, the cheerleaders will not be permitted to participate in saying OU, as they are part of the Athletics Department and OU is trademarked by the University of Oklahoma.

I hate OSU..........they have such an identity crisis!! WE ARE OHIO!!! Just had to add that...............

So OU being trademarked by UO means Ohio cheerleaders can't use the term even though Ohio was OU before Oklahoma existed and they've never even really been OU?

Can Ohio State cheerleaders use only "Ohio"? or is that something that just fans do?
