Out of what they are talking about (14 or 16 format) 16 appears to be better all the way around.

Take for example the max number of bids in a 14 format vs. 16 format.

14 Teams
Big Ten/SEC 5
ACC/Big 12 3
G5 conferences 2

16 Teams
Big Ten/SEC 7
ACC/Big 12 5
G5 conferences 4

16 teams would allow ever conference to potentially place 2 more teams in the playoff. It also lowers the bar in terms of ranking required to make the playoff as an at-large. 16 eliminates the controversial 1st round byes.
