I know most of you here still subscribe to cable (like Spectrum), satellite (good in the boonies) or a cable imitation streamer like Fubo but I can't wait for the day that MAC just goes to a streaming only contract so folks don't need so many costly ways to watch games if they enjoy them. I'd really like to see us go with an OTA contract for our games of the week and then stream the rest. The CW may be a good partner in the future.

That sounds like a great business idea! We have anyone on here that knows how to put together contracts? We could present a package to the MAC and I bet they'd jump all over! MAC-tion branded into an exclusive TV package, and the only place to get it would be off our platform. I bet we'd have millions of subscribers within a week to watch MAC-tion!

Love the idea! PM me if you are interested in investing in the start up cost or proprietary ideas of making this happen!

I'm not, I think it is an awesome idea! Takes what Texas and others did with cable and puts us into the 21st century and the envy of college football! Please feel free to DM if you want to contribute.

Way to double down.

This is a message board. You came here willingly, as you do 50 times per day. There are going to be countless ideas and opinions shared that differ from you and you may find completely ridiculous. Most of us understand that and either ignore it or engage in discussion about it. But you just get excited for another opportunity to use your asshat sarcasm to belittle someone.

Actually, statistically speaking, I've came here 2x per day if you go by when the board was reset, but that is basic math. Far cry from 50

I didn't say you made 50 posts a day, but I was obviously being sarcastic. But I do appreciate the irony of you pouncing at the opportunity for a correction considering the topic at hand.

That's ok, I can be a smart aleck myself. I think they gist of his sardonic reply was that us ol' MAC country bumpkins should just shut up and be happy to get the national tv time. Which, is probably true. However, I think that "MACtion" was a novel concept in 2007 or so but has now kind of worn it's course. When you throw the games on CBS Sports Network as well as ESPN+ you're making it so that one has to have a cable tier that carries CBSSN, often a higher priced package, AS WELL AS the ESPN+ subscription app. On top of needing regular ol' ESPN, ESPN 2 and ESPNU. It's gotten convoluted. Even the OSU Buckeyes are in this predicament, thanks to the B1G's new deal. All I'm saying is at this point I'd just as soon as they all go to streaming services and perhaps but one game per week on one of the lessor networks that are looking to fill slots. It'll be really interesting to see what the MAC's next tv deal is. I suspect it could very well be all streaming.

I've got a Hulu package that costs me about $93 a month and includes all of the above. I was able to drop my separate ESPN+ subscription, and I'm paying an extra $10 a month for the unlimited screens option.

I'm just at a point where I'm not paying $93 for a video subscription service. Although at today's price points, that is a relative bargain. Aside from a handful of Bobcat games per year, literally just 3 or 4, I have no other use for cable. I get 26 stations over-the-air from Columbus and then we pay for Netflix, Hulu/Disney/ESPN, Prime and MAX. We also have many freebie services like Tubi, Kanopy, Pluto, etc. There is more than I'll ever watch, than my wife will ever watch, or my two boys will ever watch and we pay just a few dollars.

For $102 I get high speed internet, all the networks, and any 15 channels I want through Sprectrum! Why some complain about TV blows me away. In all I get to tailor my viewing. How many of you actually watch all those channels? And my internet is included.

I like the Spectrum Choice app but as a matter of principle I’m not paying $20 for channels I get free via antenna and CBS Sports Network and ESPNU aren’t traditionally offered via Choice.

On my choice I get ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU And not all of us live where you get 26 stations over the air. Don't have that much foil to put on the Rabbit Ear Antenna's

26 is actually only half of what is available out of Columbus, believe it or not, but it's a pretty good chunk for living in Ross County. I get all six of the major networks. Unfortunately I can NOT get WOUB. When we had Spectrum Choice I was surprised that NFL Network and Fox Sports Ohio were offered. ESPNU wasn't then. Still one of the best cable alternative packages out there. They don't advertise it much. A lot of people had no idea what I was talking about.

Wow, awesome that you get that many over the air channels. Not sure what we would get here. And you are correct, they do not push that "choice" programming, which is perfect for me, and financially way cheaper than these other options when you consider you are still paying for internet. And frankly, we just do not watch more than a dozen channels, so I like paying for what I watch.

Well...

Toledo helped us by beating Buffalo.

IF we can take care of Buffalo next week, we're back to 2nd place behind Miami.

However, none of that matters unless Miami loses TWICE to three teams with a combined 6 wins. WOOF. So get out your voodoo dolls. Do some rain dances. Pray to the god of your choice. We need several miracles.

Even if we can't get back to the MACC, I would still LOVE to get to 10 wins this season. 9 wins and a bowl win does a lot for perception, and will do a lot for recruiting.

I think we'd have been better off with Buffalo winning. I don't know the tiebreakers but our best shot was probably beating Buffalo, but buffalo winning the rest and ending up in a 3 way tie that we somehow win. that to me was more likely than hoping against hope that Miami loses two more. That said, Miami might fall on their face after teams got more film on Aveon Smith last week.

I'm not sure this has been brought up (I haven't read all the comments) but one thing that going to an all-streaming platform would do it obviate the need for midweek games in November. The sole purpose of those is to fill some time slots for the ESPN and CBBSSN cable/satellite channels while giving the MAC some main-channel exposure. Without exposure on those channels, the MAC might as well go back to scheduling November games on Saturdays to maybe get some bigger crowds at games.

That would be an interesting study to see if the ESPN/CBS sports network cash outweighs the crowd situation in November. If teams play only one midweek game in November, is the TV cash the way to go? I'm not sure, but more fans are likely to show up on a Saturday to games.

Yes and no. Less and less people watch cable/satellite each year BUT the beauty of "MACtion" is that there are less games to compete with regardless the platform. They could stream on anything on Tuesday and/or Wednesday or be on a lesser broadcast network and still get eyeballs because there aren't Power 5 games going on at the same time. The "*exposure* of being on "national" tv with ESPN lost it's luster when the Roku went on sale.

Be a huge draw for recruits too, hey Johnny, we are on MAC-TV, watch us, let us know what you think, oh by the way, it's $4.99 a month.

You're good at being a smart-ass but never actually offer any substantive thoughts or ideas. It's possible to chew gum and walk at the same time. Try it sometime.

That would be an interesting study to see if the ESPN/CBS sports network cash outweighs the crowd situation in November. If teams play only one midweek game in November, is the TV cash the way to go? I'm not sure, but more fans are likely to show up on a Saturday to games.

MAC gate money isn't huge and November games don't do well anyway. That said, that ESPN money is given to the whole league to distribute and the individual schools have to pony up cameramen and the likes. The "gain" is exposure on a night when there isn't much else going on relative to college football.

OK, here is a thought, stay on the mid-week platforms we are and get exposure we never received before. Increases the brand when it's the only show on. Moving to a pay only site ran by the MAC is just silly (for whoever promoted that idea), I get the moving to Saturday and understand that appeal, however, if you speak with the coaches, they love the national exposure and push that in recruiting. What are you going to push being on a pay-per-view site? I mean, all we have to do is look at how much OHIO Basketball benefits by being on a pay per view site 90% of the season. Only a real fan is paying to turn into watch, not catching general fans. There, I did that while actually running and chewing gum.
