Thoughts?

This is really common in the current era of streaming, TV, etc. Media dictates kickoff times and the school can do nothing about it. You don't have to like it, but you should really get used to it.

12 days out is the max for them to set a time, so I would think we should hear today.

I am waiting and trying to make plans myself. Hope the 12 day mark is true and we hear in the next few hours.

Watched a little of WMU vs Miss State. Their offense looked pretty good, actually. Their defense not so much.

Understand all of this. Never said anything about not liking it. Nor anything about not being used to it. Just asking a question.

Thanks to others for helping out.

How does that work? I just always assumed ESPN owned the rights to MAC games. CBS wants to flex the game into their time slot or was that always on the table?

CBS sports has leverage for games that are relegated to streaming only.

It also means that Army is playing on the road that week. Army always gets the noon Saturday slot if they're at home.

As of this writing ESPN still hasn't set its ESPNU lineup for that week and about 14 games still don't have a starting time listed on the schedule.

CBS Sports Network essentially subleases games from ESPN. ESPN gets to pick a game for ESPN2, ESPNU, or both and then CBS Sports Network sublicenses one game of what's left. I think their maximum is 12 and they like to save a good chunk of those for November MACtion. The bummer is that most of the country doesn't have CBS Sports Net. The upside is that CBS Sports Net actually does a fine job of MAC coverage and has a nice pregame and postgame and announcers that will spend a week in the town and do their homework.

This is true. They actually act like they are interested in the game they are broadcasting, and don't use it as an excuse to talk about the latest playoff rankings. I really hate it when ESPN does this and the announcers completely miss a key play on the field because they are so busy talking among themselves about an irrelevant subject. CBS Sports Network doesn't do that.

The ESPN2/U/3 coverage feels like they think the MAC is the undercard to some kind of Power 5 main event and half the time the announcers don’t seem too well educated on either school.

I wonder if they will start adding some games to Paramount + like they do for the NFL? Maybe that wouldn't be permissible given the nature of the contract/sublease approach with ESPN?

I imagine at some point down the pike, all of CBS Sports Network will just fold into a sports hub on Paramount Plus. Another 2.7 million people have cut cable/satellite just so far in 2023, so another 2-3 million will between now and the end of the year with inflation and holiday spending around the bend. Paramount Plus has 60 million subscribers and has done a nice job competing with the other streamers. Especially after the dud that CBS All Access was initially. Really, Paramount Plus kind of invented the all in one streaming app with everything that it offers under one umbrella.

I absolutely love the quality of CBS Sports Network’s coverage of MAC football and basketball. I would love if the MAC explored a streaming/TV deal with them at the end of the current one that included some games on CBS/the CW.

As an antenna user, I'd love the MAC on the CW! The CW is getting more into sports. They have ACC, Inside the NFL, Nascar and golf.

I watched the Cincinnati-Pitt game on The CW and thought it was decent. Reminded me of when the local CBS affiliate WKRC 12 here in Cincinnati broadcasts the Bengals preseason games. With more financial backing, the quality of the broadcast would I'm sure improve.

I've watched the Bobcats on many different platforms over the years and as long as someone is showing the game, I can forgive some of the shortcomings as I am just glad to be able to view it.

I believe those CW games are sublicensed from ESPN like the MAC CBS Sports Games. I wasn't sure if the CW got their own talent or used EPSN talent. Conference USA was a bit early on broadcasting games on Stadium. People weren't sure how to find it 10 years ago but a deal with Stadium would be ideal for the MAC now. It streams free on nearly every FAST service and is available as subchannel in every US market.
