We are 13-2 and have outscored our opponents 448-257. We are averaging 29.9 ppg and only allowing 17.1 ppg. Is this our most impressive 15 game stretch ever? Just amazing how incredible the turnaround has been over this time.

For perspective, in the previous 16 games before that to start Tim Albin's career, OHIO was 5-11, scoring 24.2 ppg and giving up 33.8 ppg. The offense has gotten somewhat better, but the vast improvement has been on the defensive side of the ball.

Like I said in another thread, my real fear is losing Spense.

We might lose Albin, we might lose Spense. We CANT lose both.

If we lose Albin it is likely that we also lose Spence. He'll follow Albin unless he is offered the DC job at an even bigger moneyed program or we offer him the HC job. Making him the head coach would be probably be the only way to keep him.

The development of the defense has been incredible. Remember how hopeless it looked last September?

This would make the rivalry with Miami interesting. I doubt that he and Martin like each other.

Also:

11-0 when Rourke plays two or more quarters
2-2 when he doesn't

I would not lose sight of the fact that KRourke may be the key to all of this. When he has not been held back this year he has been very good. Last year he carried the team on his back until the defense figured it out. I wonder how all of this will look next year without Rourke.

It's certainly much to do with Rourke, but that won't stop teams from stealing Albin-Spense-Scott.

Rourke's ability to throw it deep - which we dont do anymore for some reason - is why I wanted to see Winters a little bit this year. Navarro looks like he's all legs, much how we used CJ. I dont think we're gonna be able to only run the speed option next season.

Doesn't Rourke have one more year of eligibility if he wants it?

He does. I've always assumed that the opportunities for him are so abundant--CFL, big five conference program or even NFL--that he is likely gone after this year. I'll compare this to the Vander Plas situation--he will have his degrees and not much more to prove here. I hope I am wrong, but I am not banking on him returning.

I'm sure we'll beat this topic even further to death as the season rolls on, but I'd say there is about the same chance he starts for Notre Dame next season as Ohio University. Probably less.

This isn't basketball where being a starter at a mid major and a contributor in a power conference is often the same difference for a professional career. A QB has to absorb an entirely new playbook if transferring. His performance is dependent on the pass blocking and receivers.

And most everyone has a drop off when they go to the #2 QB. There is a reason they are the #2 or #3 QB.

Just browsed backwards, not even two years, at some old threads that have aged well here (lol):

"All I need to see as an alum - Fire Albin";
"Poll: when should Tim Albin be fired?";
"Tim Albin just stealing money";

and my personal favorite,

"Could Tim Albin tarnish Frank's legacy"?

If you think people here were tough of Albin, you should go back and see what they said about Cromer.

I was thinking more along the lines of ridiculous than tough, but sure.

I wonder how their first conversation went, something like "Hey Buddy, the legend just stepped down, you get to replace him coming out of COVID shutdown with no advance notice and no momentum in the program, and hey, the season starts in six weeks, but don't worry, I don't read BobcatAttack, so there is nothing to worry about."

Here is another measure of success...

Consider that Peden stadium has roughly half the capacity of the smallest Big 10 venue (Dyche Stadium at Northwestern), annual athletic revenues of $27M are roughly one-quarter that of the poorest public Big 10 program (https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances ), and compared to an average Big 10 coaching salary (https://collegesportswire.usatoday.com/2023/10/06/big-ten... /) there is a missing zero.

And yet, Sagarin rates the program more highly right now than three Big 10 teams (Indiana, Illinois and Northwestern), and essentially even with four more (Michigan State, Purdue, Minnesota and..wait for it... Nebraska).

If this team were seeded into the Big 10 West, they would probably be bowl-eligible at the end of the season.

No argument there. However, I am of the opinion that Rourke's performance in the games starting with Fordham least year is the most impressive stretch of any quarterback I've seen here (includes his brother and Tettleton). Last year he was almost flawless when he was forced to carry this team and has been great when he has not been handcuffed by a conservative game plan. I may be more impressed by KRourke than others.

I haven't said much on here about Cromer one way or the other, but what makes you think the comments that her early detractors made have been proven wrong?

Personally, I don't have a strong opinion about her either way, to me she's kind of "meh." She's certainly not as good as Rohr but better than Kirby, which could be considered damning by faint praise, I suppose. I think TB, with all his faults, was a better and more dynamic leader of the athletic program.

The comments I'm referring to are specific to Albin and his contract. You were amongst the commenters, I believe.

There was a small, but vocal group who were absolutely insistent that she got "snookered", "bamboozled", and out negotiated. If I recall, you even suggested the hire was so bad that Frank Solich should pay for the buyout. Rpbobcat suggested that Cromer messed up by not convincing Frank to conspire with her to keep Albin from getting more than a single year to prove himself. It was as ridiculous then as it sounds now.

That group was very clearly wrong about her handling of the Albin contract, which both reduced long-term risk, and got Album at league average comp.

Oh, I thought you were referring to Cromer's overall record since you were contrasting the criticism of TA with that of Cromer. Yes, I was one of the idiots who thought that TA was going to be another Knorr after that first year. No, I don't believe I was the one who suggested Frank pay for the buyout. That doesn't sound like something I would have said. I've confessed this "sin" many times since on BA. I now understand the context of your statement and withdraw my question.
