When do we get to start a Group of Five watch?

I'm so pissed we didn't let Rourke go back in during the SDSU game.

To soon. There is a lot of season left to play. The MAC is going to be a grind as always. Running the table is the cherry on top of the Sunday. Winning the MAC for the first time since ‘68 - is also a long way off. I’m here to enjoy the ride watching this team play them one game at a time.

Rourke was literally knocked out on the field in the SDSU game, there is no way he was going back in that game.

Is that why they reportedly took an X-ray of his knee? I'm not trying to be snarky, but does anyone outside of Rourke and coaching staff actually know what went on here. If anything definitive was ever released on his injury at SDSU I didn't see it.

Go back and watch how he was face planted and immobile on the field after that hit. He then starts to sit up and falls back, not holding his knee. He then stumbles when jogging off the field, he doesn’t limp.

I believe I’ve seen a couple spots on social media confirming a concussion, but regardless, Albin confirmed he did not have X-Rays/an MRI during the LIU week press conference and said the injury was unrelated to the ACL.

“We had several guys that did get X-rays, Kurtis did not have to get X-rays,” Ohio head coach Tim Albin said Monday, adding that the injury was not related to the ACL tear.

He was concussed, why you get excited about coach speak and disinformation is beyond me.

I'm going to be on Group of Five watch now. Why? Because it's fun and that's all this is about as a fan. I don't have any problem as a fan jumping the gun on this.

Fresno St has 43 votes in the coaches poll and is 3-0 with only Kent State left to play in the non-conference. Seemingly they have the inside track for the access bowl this season and they have 2 P5 wins (Purdue, Arizona St).

If they stumble, and we win out, we probably have an outside chance.

A different question is why some are upset that the coaches didn't put him back in.

Fresno St. down 24-7 to Wyoming, Ohio's 2022 bowl opponent, at the half. Fresno St. players not used to the 7,200-ft elevation?

This outcome holding is basically a necessity to have any chance at all. If Wyoming wins today then whichever of these two wins the MWC has to lose AT LEAST once more between now and then anyway.

Marshall losing to NCSt. was not as big of a requirement as the MWC game is but it was very important. If Marshall wins that game then they have two P5 wins and even if they were to lose to unbeaten JMU, which would be a pretty forgivable loss, they'd still control their own density for the SunBelt title. Now JMU beating Marshall and Georgia Southern has decent chance to put us ahead of the Sunbelt champion. SDSU is not going to be a good loss and our scheduled is weak. Hope ISU wins some games and that the committee would be a little forgiving with the loss because it was due to QB injury and we'd be on a 12 game winning streak. Otherwise we might need most of the other contenders to have three losses.

Tulane and Memphis are off today but they had a great week anyway. The winner of that game next week is going to be in the driver's seat for that spot. Liberty might be the only team that we have a chance of beating out with the same record but they need to take at least one loss against a remaining weak schedule if not two. WKU on a Tuesday night is the best chance for one. Speaking of which, we know what MACtion and FunBelt are. What are the CUSA midweek games?

We'd be favored in every game right now but that doesn't mean the odds of a 12-1 season are still all that great. Then we still need a lot of help. But I feel like the odds of NY6 have moved to very improbable from outlandishly improbable.

Speaking of things that are still outlandishly improbable...College GameDay must be convinced to make Halloween in Athens an even bigger madhouse than normal. :}

Iowa State topped TCU and Fresno State lost to Wyoming. FAU beat a good Tulsa team.

1. Fresno lost but is probably still ahead of us
2. James Madison still unbeaten
3. Tulane -- plays Memphis next week
4. Air Force - plays Wyoming next week
5. Toledo - We will beat in the championship
6. Memphis -- plays Tulane next week
7. Liberty -
9. Marshall lost in a close one -- probably a toss-up with Ohio
10. Wyoming had a huge win
11. Ohio

We still need a decent amount of luck, but it's possible

JMU, as far as my understanding of the rules, is in their transition year and there isn't a mechanism for them to get that NY6 spot. I think that they are ineligible to play in SunBelt championship game and thus cannot win a conference championship. One is required to earn that spot. They are eligible to be ranked and can play in a bowl as one of the first alternates if not enough teams reach 6 wins by the standard rules. That is very likely to happen. However, as far as I know, The NY6 spot isn't the highest rated G5 team by the playoff committee but the highest rated conference champion. There could be an unbeaten team with a resume close to UC a few years ago ranked well inside the top ten as the only ranked G5 team before they lose to a 7-5 team in their conference championship. They could easily still be the only ranked G5 team but they'd open the spot up for a separate committee argument by losing that title game. So that is a way someone with a much lesser resume could slip in.

Anyway, summing up:
1. JMU played their first transition year in FBS. Most teams don't. Therefore they are still in the second transition year.
2. Transition teams are ineligible to play in conference championship games or bowl eligibility unless the bowls end up short of eligible teams.
3. A conference championship is required for the G5 NY6 spot.

Let me know if anyone believes any of those three statements are wrong. If they are all correct, JMU beating up on the rest of the SB is a great way to harm the resume of the Marshall and Georgia Southern and everyone else.

I realized shortly after I posted in this thread last night that I completely neglected Air Force. The MWC is one of the better G5 conferences but Air Force is not playing a great schedule. They miss some of the better MWC teams and play Wyoming next week. We should probably be rooting for Wyoming yet again because there are not a lot of great opportunities for Air Force to lose. The winner of that game is going to be up there with the winner of Tulane vs. Memphis. In the end, if we have a fighting chance come December we are probably going to be rooting for the MWC title game to go a certain way. UNLV should also be mentioned as a longshot candidate. They only have one loss and it is to Michigan. The bottom of the MWC isn't that great. It is going to be hard to get the right combination of upsets to eliminate all of the MWC before December.

Leaving Miami off this list is bad karma. They have dashed our hopes more than once. Pardon my superstitions, but I’d put them at 11 in a tie with Ohio, at least.

#47 Troy
#52 Marshall
#55 Ohio

The team from Oxford will give the Bobcat fits on Halloween weekend. One game at a time, but Ohio will need very student and fan they can get in Peden to cheer on the Bobcats that day. Go Bobcats!
