Parkers 24 career completions are all the experience we have. Going to have to heavily lean on the run game. Which also has a kid with one career game as his lone experience. Parkers legs should help ease him in, but I don't expect this will be an easy year for anyone.
On the other hand, the MAC is pretty putrid, so I wouldn't be surprised if they ran down peoples throats come November and went on a little run.

I’m trying to remember when we ever had a situation with this little QB game experience coming back like this. Even when Nathan Rourke came in, Quinton Maxwell had about 10 starts under his belt.
Maybe 1999…Dontrell Jackson’s freshman year. It was pretty much DAN JORDAN coming back if I recall correctly.

Maxwell had 162 pass attempts as a freshman in 2016. He spelled Greg Windham because he was thought of as a better passer and lesser runner if I recall. I think he only started 7 games, including the bowl. If I'm not mistaken he played better in the upset loss at home against EMU and started the remaining games after that including a mile upset of Toledo where he played well and got most of the PT after that. I'm not 100% sure that's right but I think that it is. He started in the 59 point thrashing of Hampton in which basically every healthy player played significantly. He started against Purdue in the second game of 2017 but Rourke outplayed him and he didn't really split much time with Rourke after that.
That 2017 had so many guys who at least got an NFL preseason contract plus some more with other pro league experience. Most of the best defenders were seniors and we had the best front seven maybe of all Ohio teams of the past 50 years or so. A lot of the offensive skill players were freshman and sophomores that were on some of OU's highest scoring teams with Rourke at the helm the next couple of years. I remember thinking that we might have been close to WMU that year if we had just not had maybe the worst QB situation in the FBS. What if we had Rourke a year early or if we really want to play what if how about Joe Burrow.

I think in 2016 Windham was the only guy with experience and it was much less than Maxwell had in 2017. I think Vick, Sprague and Duckworth all graduated after 2015 even though Vick was the only guy who was out of eligibility

Sprague was supposed to be the guy in 2016, but had to cut his playing career short. Combine that with Vick out out of eligibility and Duckworth transferring out (I think), the job fell into Windham's lap.

Definitely similar to this year. Thanks.
Surprisingly, that team went to the MAC championship where they…

Has everyone already forgotten 2011? T3 and Boo were gone. Ohio had 5 QBs on the roster: 1. True Freshman Darrius Vick (no career stats yet) 2. True Freshman Ronnie Bell (no career stats yet) 3. Redshirt Freshman Kyle Snyder (no career stats yet) 4. Transfer from Iowa State Phil Bates, 9-23-3, 177 yds in 2010 with 1 TD 5. Redshirt Sophomore Tyler Tettleton, 9-23-2, 123 yds in 2009 with 0 TD
So, the entire staff had a combined experience of 18-46-5 for 300 yards and 0 TD. That season turned out OK, though.

Yeah kinda crazy 2011 and 2016 ended in MAC East titles. Wonder where we were picked? Anyone care to look that up?

Frank's first year in '05 wasn't one for the history books either. It was pretty much Everson - a guy recruited to play for the previous staff and run the option - and a bunch of newbies. It was a rough year through the air to say the least.

According to the MAC website:
2011 picked 2nd in the East behind Miami (who finished 4-8 lol), but we tied with Toledo for most 1st place votes.
2016 picked 2nd in the East behind BG (also finished 4-8) and 3rd in first place votes.

Also had Phil Bates…virtually no stats at Iowa State…just fyi

Oops, #4 was supposed to be Phil Bates, but he became "Phil Snyder" due to an editing error. ;)
Bates had few if any stats at Iowa State, but did play a little at Ohio in 2010, going 9-23-3 for 177 yards.

it seems like we're always an injury away from having an inexperienced QB running things. And it seems like we always find a serviceable QB when the starter goes down or leaves. Two years ago CJ stepped in after Kurtis was hurt and won two of his three games. Navarro looked good last year against a mediocre GaSo team, and fortunately we have at least eight teams on the schedule that should be no better than mediocre this season. A lot depends on the players around him on offense and whether the defense can get off the field.
We will get by. We will get by. We will get by. We will survive.

So, the QB position looks like it will consist of (in no particular order): 1. Parker Navarro 18-26-1, 185 yards, 3 TDs at Ohio, 24-40-1, 232 yards 3 TDs overall 2. Callum Wither, Redshirt Soph, no stats, 2140 yards in HS at Canada's #1 school 3. Jacob Winter, Redshirt Freshman, no stats, 227-for-399 with 4,290 yards & 56 TD in high school 4. Nick Poulas, 25-38-2 with 467 yards and 6 TD, appearing in 2 games for El Camino College as a Sophomore. I can't find anything about where he was as a Freshman, but he was not at El Camino 5. Matthew Pappas, True Freshman, no stats, 250-351 3319 yards, 41 TDs as a Senior in high school
That's five QBs, and hopefully one or more will get the job done. As a comparison to some prior years, many years had only 4 QB on the roster: 2005: (4) Everson, Jones, Petrziello, Febus +[Bower (not eligible)] 2006: (4) Everson, Bower, Febus, Jones 2007: (6) Scott, Bower, Febus, Jones, Schlichter, Sweeney 2011: (5) Tettleton, Bates, Snyder, Vick, Bell 2016: (3!) Windham, Maxwell, Duckworth 2017: (4) N. Rourke, Maxwell, Duckworth, Keszei 2018: (4) N. Rourke, Maxwell, Keszei, Mischler 2019: (4) N. Rourck, Mischler, K. Rourke, Yates
If one of the five turns into a solid starter, the depth in Ohio's QB room for this fall looks to be comparable to or better than most of those years. Navarro is the putative starter, but hopefully one or more of the others will push for the job, too.
