Ball State: Two tight ends and a tackle make the first three teams. Will the Cardinals have a power offense and wear down MAC defenses?

I don’t understand why these kinds of polls have more than 11 players on each “team”. Why have 15 members of the first team and second team defense? Sorts of cheapens the award to me.

Given that this is a completely irrelevant award to begin with, does it really matter if they "cheapen" it by awarding 15 instead of 11? At best it's just something to read during the off-season to keep interest up. The takeaway here is that there are only a couple Ohio players even mentioned on this list at all (Wiglusz, Wilburn), so Ohio players need to go out and make a point this fall that they should be included in the real, post-season awards.

Yeah, I mostly posted to see if I could get some discussion started. I've been trying for the past few days. I was able to listen to a lot of the media day stuff and didn't get many comments.

We are six weeks from the start of the season and have a MAC contender. It feels like the football board would have been more active under those circumstances before the pandemic.

I gather from the first place votes in the poll that there probably weren't very many people voting for these awards. I was a little surprised that we didn't have a tad more representation. Some guys like Amburgey and Titsworth that we don't talk so much about but are lucky to have or the starting linebackers that Albin is so high on didn't make it. I don't know enough about the people on the list to argue at all. I'm not surprised Rourke isn't on it as I know the other guys are quality and not coming off of an injury.

You probably like the name Big 10 with however many teams it has now. Just kidding.

It’s does matter if it’s to have any meaning whatsoever. I guess they’re trying to give lots of players awards/ kind of carrying on the everybody gets a ribbon philosophy to some degree.

Besides, I guess I’m just old fashioned and like some order and things that make sense in my life, not just everything being chaotic and nonsensical.

I was surprised by that as well. Especially with 2 RB's on each team I figured he'd be a lock on 2nd team at least.

....

Of course. I always make a point of calling them the Big 10, rather than B1G, to show that they can't count.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm just pointing out the flipside; as a pointless preseason blog post, it doesn't have any meaning whatsoever anyway, so it really doesn't matter.

So why is this whole thread even here?

That, indeed, is the question. I put it right up there with the basketball "golf" thread and the basketball "Mid Major" poll thread.

Because, when there is nothing meaningful to talk about, and people are bored, waiting for the season to start, the discussion turns to anything and nothing?

Was my initial thought as well, but those other guys you really can't argue with.

Harris is my biggest gripe, honestly. And they gave him 1st team. He's a fun player, but he really got exposed in that bowl game last year, probably why he came back for his 7th year. His running numbers aren't crazy - at least not enough to overlook his passing numbers, which are still decent, but not better than Reed/Mcall and/or Rourke.

Reed had nearly 5,000 yards passing and 40 TD.

McCall had a Rourke-like season. He's a very nice player. Career 77 TD to just EIGHT INT.

Looking at ESPN QBR numbers for the various QBs
https://www.espn.com/college-football/qbr

#13 Frank Harris, UTSA: 80.6 overall, 100.9 passing
#44 Grayson McCall, Coastal Carolina: 67.7 overall, 62.9 passing
#46 Austin Reed, W. Kentucky: 66.2 overall, 74.9 passing

By comparision:
#26 Kurtis Rourke: 73.6 overall, 80.7 passing

He certainly ought to be in the top 3 (if this rating mattered....)
