According to reports he signed with Jacksonville. Nathan announced it on his twitter account today. He had 12 NFL workouts and offers from Cleveland, Las Vegas among others.
Tyler Tettleton is on The Jags staff. Also a former CFL QB coach has recently been hired by the Jaguars. I assume Nathan has a relationship with the CFL QB coach.
Fans of the BC Lions are understandably sad for their team but happy for Nathan.

It sounds like he is in a good position to be the back-up and spend a dozen years in the league and make decent money, but I'm a bit surprised he didn't sign with a team where he has a reasonable chance to be the starter.

Teams that have a shaky starter (Texans, Indy, Raiders, etc.) will likely look to draft someone early who will be given a shot to start at some point. When a guy is drafted early a team will usually have an experienced vet to start until the draftee is ready. This would crowd out someone like Rourke. The Canadian press reported that he was looking for a guarantee that he could compete for a second string position. I think that Rourke goes to camp competing with CJ Beathard to be Lawrence's backup. I was hoping that he would land at Minnesota or KC where he could backup an aging QB.

The Bengals would have been a great spot. The Burrow connection already exists. Plus, I don't have any memories of Brandon Allen ever converting a first down, even in the preseason.

I thought that was a good fit too. However, the Jags have former CFL start Henry Burris as an Offensive Coach (who worked with Rourke as a consultant with the BC Lions) and have Tyler Tettleton as their RB coach. Pretty good connections there.

Microsoft's "click bait" has an article entitled "Jaguars Signed Noted QB on Sunday afternoon ".

Very complimentary about him.

Only problem with the article ?

He played college ball at "the University of Ohio" .

Just as bad as the ESPN story above that never mentions Ohio at all!

I think this had *a lot* to do with stability in the coach, and stability in the offense.

Super excited for Nathan to get a chance to have a nice long back-up career with a shot to start - when it comes. Like Jacoby Brissett, Jimmy G, etc.

Sit back behind Trevor. Be a sponge, and your time will come.

Sure, maybe it would've been better - on paper - to go to a bad team with a chance to start. He also might've been cut when a new coach comes in, or performed badly in a few spot starts on a bad team with weak weapons.

Doug Pederson made Carson Wentz and Nick Foles look like Hall of Famers. Don't discount coaching.

How cool would it be to have both Rourke brother's in the NFL? I was under the assumption that Kurtis had some NFL projectability with a long shot to get drafted but I'm not an NFL scout. I would imagine that Nathan signing helps Kurtis' stock.

he signed a reserved/futures contract. has a long path to go to make 53 man roster next september. but jags are a good choice to roll with for reasons stated above.

Kurtis is definitely getting drafted.

For Nathan, yes he hasn't made the final 53, but he was given a three-year deal with a signing bonus and some incentives. Certainly would appear to me that the Jags are serious about him earning that #2 job. Beatherd is a FA so he might not be back.

For Nathan, who made about $65k last year with BC, getting $750k plus a bonus and incentives is fantastic. And FL has no state income tax, so even better for him.

ONLY money Nathan is getting on this contract until he makes the team and sees week 1 is the signing bonus. However, as he states, he got a guarantee that he has the chance to compete for that #2 position. That is what he's looking for. NFL players do not get paid until week one, other than some pocket change for camps.

Hey, Mel what round do you see Kurtis going in?

As for Florida Income Tax, players pay tax based on what state their game was played in. This is called a "Jock Tax", so when the Jags play in Ohio at Cleveland or Cincinnati they pay an income tax to Ohio. Same with every U.S. professional sports league

GO BOBCATS

2 years // $1.6M

For comparison, he made $71,000 last season.

Further comparison, Zach Collaros is the highest paid player in CFL history.
He made $550K last season. $300K base.

It's a Futures Contract. Non of the money is guaranteed unless he makes the roster next season (does get any signing bonus, though that is often minimal). Future contracts are most often for the league minimum ($800,000 per year) - as is his. Jags will likely bring on others to compete with him for the back-up job. Signing now gives him the benefit of being with the team through all off-season programs.

Where is the signing bonus taxed? (Not trying to be snarky, genuinely curious)

Actually Nathan gets $221,000 guaranteed. Most futures contracts do not include guaranteed cash, but Nathan’s does.

221k? That's practically the same as what he made last year in the CFL when you consider inflation. Florida though is nice in the pocket tax wise.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

I was joking. 71k is a living wage for a mailman. How do you get an apartment on 71k in British Columbia?

He made $550K last season. $300K base.

The exchange rate for Canadian dollar to USD is currently 0.75. So, based on the information above, plus the addition from BTC that he has a $221k guarantee
let's see if I have this right:
1. Last year he made $71k Canadian, which is $53k in USD
2. If he makes the Jags' roster, he makes $800k USD
3. If he doesn't, he makes whatever signing bonus he got, plus $221k USD on top of the $53k USD he already made this year, and can go back to BC and pick up where he left off
4. If he keeps being a star in Canada, someday he may make $550k Can ($412k USD)

I presume that on top of his $53k USD salary in Canada, he is also making some money outside from advertising. He has to be a hot commodity in Canada. In Florida, if he ends up being the backup QB, he probably won't have many advertisers calling him.
