Today I was discussing Todd Snyder (OHIO '70) with my son. I looked up his NFL stats with the Atlanta Falcons which were, of course, easy to find. However, I can't find his WFL stats anywhere. I assume that those stats exist somewhere. Does anyone know an online source for WFL player stats? Todd player three years for the Falcons. The first year (1970) he was a starter at WR on the NFL team with the most run-heavy offense in the league. Nonetheless, he averaged 13.5 yards per catch. The next year he was injured and virtually didn't play at all. In his third year he had lost his starting spot because of his injury the previous year and saw little action. He then transferred to the WFL's Chicago Fire for the 1974 season. The franchise folded the next year I remember watching a few of his Chicago Fire games in '74 on TV. As I recall he did pretty well, but I would like to find his actual stats for that year. I can't believe that they don't exist. Help from BA stat gurus appreciated.

He is listed on the roster by this site, but has no statistics.

This shows him on the roster but with no stats. Virgil Carter was the starting QB.

Thanks, guys. Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me, but I thought I remember that he made some plays in the WFL. I believe I watched two games that he played in the WFL in the fall of 1974. I noticed that some other players on this roster list also had no stats listed. It looks like maybe someone went through and compiled stats for some players but not for others. Strange. But, the WFL was a strange league and while it looked promising folded rather quickly. I guess I'd have to go back and examine individual game box scores to find the answer to my question. Might be a project for a rainy day!

Well, got in contact with WFL historian, and here's his reply:

"Yes, Todd Snyder played for the Fire in 1974. He had played three years with the Falcons after being drafted out of Ohio. He was signed by the Fire along with several other free agents on February 20th, 1974 (as you may recall the Fire signed everybody but the kitchen sink in the early months of '74). He was also listed in both the Fire's and the league's media guides. Snyder was listed in a June 17th article in the Miami Herald as being one of the veterans in camp. He made the team and was listed in a Fire newspaper ad in the July 1st Tribune along with other NFL vets who had signed with the team, as well as listed on the Fire's opening day list of players in the July 10th Memphis Press-Scimitar. From the articles, the team expected him to help out quite a bit at wide receiver but then James Scott and Jack Dobbin came out of nowhere and impressed everybody. Snyder wore #25 with the Fire but I went through all the game summaries for 1974 and he had no stats, no catches, rushing attempts, kick returns, not even any tackles or fumble recoveries. I have yet to find an article that says if and when he may have been released."

So, maybe he didn't play at all for The Fire, or he played in a few games without available stats. At one point I had Todd's email which I seem to have lost. If I find it, I'll ask him directly.
