I quit reading the Bobcat Attack message board a few years ago. I try to refrain from reading the constant negative remarks about this coaching staff and program. The same people who criticized Frank, Coach Burrow and Coach Albin several seasons ago are the same people who criticize Coach Albin and his staff today. Shame on You! Some Bobcat Attackers criticized Coach Albin when he was the OC even though several of his offenses were not only top 20 offenses in the NCAA, but also go down in Bobcat history as seven of the top eight all time at Ohio. The same posters criticized Coach Burrow and his defenses. Many Bobcat attackers wanted Coach Albin and his staff dismissed after five months on the job. Shame on you! It was Frank's desire to see Coach Albin replace him when he retired. Thankfully that is what happened. This football program accomplished something that no other football school in the conference accomplished this fall. They won seven football games and won the regular season conference title by two games. Sure they didn't win the title game, but Bobcat fans know that the MVP of the league didn't play in Detroit. This program should be proud of what they accomplished. Since 2006 the Bobcats have won five MAC East titles and Coach Albin has been an instrumental part of that success. He and his staff should be rewarded for a job well done. Shame on the people who think otherwise!

Hope you feel better. Your last post was in April not a few years ago.

No one is above criticism as no one is perfect. It's certainly not shameful to criticize someone that's a highly paid public official.

Long Driver then you don't mind criticizing the President of Ohio or other highly paid public officials. Feel free to criticize the Ohio mens basketball coach and his staff or for that matter the womens basketball coach. Long Driver when was the last time the mens basketball team won an outright regular season conference championship? Not sure if you remember but that was with Larry Hunter in the early 1990's. How many MAC East titles have the mens or womens basketball team team won? If you finish 9th seed or 5th seed in football then you don't get a second chance. I'm hoping you don't bash mens and womens basketball, volleyball and other sports like you want to criticize football. Shame on You!

Its ok for fans to be wrong about TA as long as they can adjust to the reality that he won coach of the year and will be here for a while.

The anger was fair as TA did something last year that no Bobcat coach has ever survived, losing to an FCS school and in particular a low level FCS in Duquesne. Frank never lost to any FCS opponents and played far better ones. Grobe dropped one to Northern Iowa but that is top level FCS. TA was 3-9 last year and he is 12-13 overall. In 18 years 0-5 in MAC Championship games.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

TA last year also had 1 month before practice started. ONLY Bob Kappas has ever dealt with such an issue.

Last time we won the regular season title was actually 2012-13. TBH, regular season titles don't really matter too much IMO - Postseason matters most. A MAC Tourney title and an NCAA tourney berth are even more significant. I would take those any day over just a regular season title. We have never won the MAC East division since the MAC basketball divisions were implemented in 1997 up until 2020. I believe we are supposed to go back to divisions after the 2023-24 season.

Also, as for the criticism here, it's a sports forum - there will inevitably be criticism and with the state of our football team last year - It would be hard to not find harsh criticism of the team or coaching staff. But - we've seemed to have turned a corner and I'm happy we were able to enjoy the run this year and have a bowl game to boot.

Yea I don't have a problem with commenting on any of those folks' job performance because criticism doesn't mean I don't support them, the team, the department, or the university. It's a message board where people comment on how they feel about a variety of topics. There's an entire thread where folks praised TA and the turnaround. I don't think I've actually criticized the football staff on here, so I didn't feel the need to comment in there.

I've had private conversations where I sure did criticize the body of work last year and early this year. I've also had follow ups on those same conversations giving credit when it was clearly due later in the year. For the record I did criticize Boals recently for a late game decision I felt was a poor choice. I sure don't feel shame for doing so and I'm not sure why anyone would. The behavior here is extremely tame so I don't think anyone should be shamed for providing their thoughts. It would make for a very boring conversation if we just all agreed everything was great all the time.

I commented to your post because I just found it totally bizarre you came here to blast the entire group for behavior that is very reasonable.

Maybe at Ohio, but plenty of other assistants have had to step into the HC position just before the season started. Like Bryant Vincent of UAB, who became HC after Bill Clark retired at the end of June. He took UAB to a 6-6 record and a bowl game this season, then found himself replaced by Trent Dilfer.

Cellis- actually the Bobcats mens basketball regular season was second seed 2012-13 at 14-2 behind Akron as Ohio lost the tiebreaker. They tied with Akron but lost the tiebreaker. The mens basketball team has not won an outright regular season East title, let alone been first in the league during the regular season since the Hunter days. As someone mentioned above the regular season is not that important in basketball. League schools get second chances even if they are in the bottom of the standings in basketball. Long Driver- I'm not blasting the entire group of Bobcat Attackers. The people who criticized Frank are the same individuals who criticized Coach Albin and his staff. Those bashers know who they are. I agree. BA is unique among sports boards in that it generally contains intelligent and reasonable discussion, with little of the insane irrationality that you see on most sports boards. Did TA deserve criticism for losing to Duquesne and going 3-9? Of course. Did he deserve a chance to right the boat? Yes.
Does he now deserve praise for making great assistant coach changes in the off-season, and for motivating the players to go 9-4 so far this year? Obviously, yes.

I think that, in general, most of the fans on this board are very reasonable and adapt their opinions well to changing facts.

I find this thread strange. I was called a "Solich apologist" on this board more than once, yet I criticized Frank on occasion for specific decisions, like the ill-timed TO at the end of the Wyoming home game that likely cost us the game. Heck, Frank even criticized himself on that one! In TA's first year I was vocal about wanting him fired. About midway through this season, I saw the progress that was being made and publicly stated that I had been wrong in wanting him fired after last season. Like many, I was worried that we might be headed back to the Wilderness Years of Cleve and PaPaL. What's shameful about that? I don't get it.

I am not a person that would ever call for the firing of a coach because I understand that it isn't my field of expertise. I might comment on what historical comparisons make me think the AD might do but I'll never call for anyone to be fired. I have been closer to the "Solich apologist" camp I'm sure. I'm definitely OK with naming the field after him even though he never won the MAC. As I have said I can be a very analytical person. IMO, fielding a good team with respect to his resources is the coaches job. Solich did that. Out of the handful of good teams, which one actually wins the championship, is mostly a function of luck and not team quality under most formats unless one team is head and shoulders above the rest. That's not so true in a format like the English Premier League where the champion is in team with the best record over a 38 game season where all schedules are symmetric, but in situations where there is a championship game or tournament then no, that is a largely luck. As to if I'm missing something about Solich specifically in his teams always "choking" or if he just suffered extraordinarily bad luck, I'll let you guys argue that if you want. This is an outlier in that regard and I am certainly open to the idea that there might have been more to it.

I am not touting my prognostication skills because I thought Ohio would be bad this year based on what happened last season but I was also the only person that picked a losing season in 2021 because I thought Albin had been put into a very difficult spot. But I didn't expect losing to an FCS team for the first time in 20 years. And not a good FCS team. It was a below average one. It was the worst loss in many, many decades. That includes the extended dark age after Hess's retirement. Then we lost to BG by 11 whereas we had beaten them by 42 the prior year in a season where both teams were largely the same team as 2020 due to COVID rules. It was only one game but a largely straight up comparison between where Ohio was in 2021 with respect to 2020. Are you seriously going to tell me that criticizing one of the highest paid public employees in Ohio, no matter how tough of a position he was in, is out of bounds when a program suddenly takes a 180 degree turn by several measures that is rarely seen in his first year?

As I said, I can be very analytical. I'm the last person to believe in karma. I am optimistic about next year but if did believe and saw someone take a self-righteous attitude like this, mostly without any real reason, then if any karma would make me suddenly expect another 3-9 season that would be it.

We're not allowed to be critical of coaches on this board? I personally am fine with not being critical of players based on their on-field play, but coaches, basically funded on my tax dollar, are fair game (within reason).

As for TA, he definitely received too much grief last year, but deserved at least some of it. He also had non-stop praise this year, but may not deserve all of it. I'm all for giving him an extension. However, there is a non-zero percent chance that KRourke is an elite talent that saved this team from another 3-9 record (I know that may not be a popular opinion). I think that having opinions that differ from others is a feature, not a drawback of this board.

You forgot to mention all the people complaining about this year's bowl game.

Took me a long, long.... long time to just let the complainers complain. Still jump in to arguments too frequently for my blood pressure... But, lots of great fans and good discussions to follow on here as well.

Take deep breath, let it out, and stick around. And throw out an "you jerks need to get a life and be nicer" post like this one from time to time if it helps.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

Your referenced Frank decision in the closing seconds of that Wyoming game, it did more than "likely" cost Ohio the game. Ohio as you'll recall was leading by 5 or 6 pts in the closing seconds. Wyoming had the ball at Ohio's 5 or 6 yard line. 4th and goal. Wyoming QB throws an incompletion. Ohio players and fans are jubilant. Then a linesman runs toward center of the field, waving off the play. Puzzlement reigns. Turns out Frank had run down the sideline and told the linesman he wanted a TO. Wyoming QB gets a mulligan and throws a TD pass.

Years later when I was spending a day with Frank and staff, he brought up that situation as one that still caused him pain.

My apologies. I just rechecked that and it says we were "Co-Champions" with Akron that year. It does have Akron put ahead of us though. I know they beat us in MAC championship that year, ugh.

Mike: Thanks for reminding me of the horrendous details of that Wyoming loss. You're right that the untimely TO *definitely* cost us the game. As I think back to the game, with your description causing my synapses to start firing, I remember that my immediate reaction was that that TO cost us the game. Over the years, it had become a little fuzzy in my memory.
