The strength of their team is their defense (I am a Bobcat from Toledo whose dad went to BGSU and I went there for grad school so I watch them every game--but Ohio is my alma mater and my rooting interest in anything head-to-head or with Ohio implications) and if we do not have some sort of passing attack their defense may have a chance against us (they beat WMU 13-9 for instance, they can win on D)... that said, I hope and think Albin can run the ball creatively enough to provide chances, and McDonald turns the ball over a bunch... but also, Ball State was ready for a passing attack and definitely off kilter when Rourke went out and we went to a run-heavy attack which they had not prepared for. The threat and the effectiveness of the pass is essential.

Has there been game in Athens the week of Thanksgiving like this before where both Ohio and their opponent have a MAC Championship stake on the line?

They played three of the top four rushing teams in the MAC, Kent, Toledo, and CMU. All were able to rush with some success, in the 100-200 yard range. All were able to score some points. CMU and Toledo both lost, and lost for the same reason, turnovers. CMU lost the turnover battle 4-0, while Toledo lost the turnover battle 3-1.

I expect Ohio will be able to move the ball adequately against BG. If they take care of the ball, they can win, even without Rourke.

Ohio vs. Temple on Black Friday about 13 years ago. We won.

Highlights from the Temple game. One of Evan’s best. I still often recall this video when I hear this song.

Let's hope CJ can play like T3 did that game. Can Ohio win without Kurtis? Not as easily as with Kurtis, perhaps, but yes, Ohio knows how to operate a heavy run offense, where the passing game is opened up by runs, rather than the reverse. I expect it to be a very, very physical game, and I see Ohio coming out on top, 28-20.

Its the same story every week so far in MAC play. Started with the Kent game. They won the East last year and had Georgia sweating in the 4th quarter. Ohio shows up on the road and is controlling most of the game, snagged defeat from the jaws of victory but still was controlling things. Only MAC defeat was in overtime.

MAC has thrown at Ohio its best offensive and defensive teams and the Bobcats have stayed in control the entire time. What does BG present to Ohio the team has not already seen? On paper MAC teams look dangerous but once they get on the field with us it's a different story.

Its probably going to be another run of the mill 15 point victory considering that is what the Bobcats usually do. My take on Toledo losing to them is clearly UT is not that great by letting BG do that. Poor execution by UT in the first half.

As long as Ohio doesn't do a November implosion they should be fine. They haven't a clunker yet in 7 MAC contests.

Ohio is not going to lose to BG. Period. If Rourke plays, Ohio will win easily. If Rourke doesn't play, Ohio will still win.

This is the game that I wasn't all that worried about after we beat Buffalo. I honestly believe that we would be about a 12 or 13 point favorite if Rourke were 100%. How much is the MVP of a team worth? Usually not anywhere near that. We should still be a small favorite no matter what.

I actually recall this video from that game a little more fondly. It was really an interesting watch. (Just fast forward through the driving sequences.)

There are some hits in this video that today would have resulted in 15 yard penalties for Ohio.

I like the fact that there is little to no game film on CJ Harris for our opponent. I think it gives us a slight advantage as far as game plan is concerned. I would assume we will play more to CJs strengths and maybe have some more designed runs but also maybe not stray too far from what got us to this point.

I know Albin said in the presser that once Rourke went out they did not alter the game plan, although at that time the plan was just to essentially run out the clock.

Either way, I'm excited to see how it turns out and hopefully we can get to the MAC Championship.

After thinking about the situation more, our offense needs to lean on the receiving corps. If they can continue to get open like they have all year, then Harris should be able to hit them. If he can't hit open targets then probably shouldn't be at a D1 school.

We have more talent and experience in that receivers room than we have in years past so hoping that they can make life a little easier for Harris. Just need to be able to do enough to keep the defense honest.

Also goes without saying, we need a big game from the O-line.

The most encouraging fact to me right now is that we are second in the MAC only to Miami in points allowed (and they’re not finished tonight) at 159 in 7 games. Our defense has really stepped it up and I’m hoping they can keep it going a few more games.

D has stepped up! Also believe we can win with Harris with a new threat in the run game and a faster speed option. Simplify the passing game and grind it out! In a pinch, I like or kicker too!

Other than TO's, the only thing that will cost OHIO a victory is the pass defense of the Bobcats.

Are they for real and substantially improved OR are they still the D that the 1-9 Akron QB threw for tons and the coming off injury Miami QB shredded twice in very quick fashion?

in CJ WE TRUST.

I remember the surrounding times of that game well.

We celebrated Thanksgiving at home, 3.5 hours from Athens, and pushed the time up to eating at 11am. Then I drove my two in the 110 back to Athens for practice held later that day.

The dorms were not open so the 1st and 2nd year members had to overnight in upperclassmen housing, sleeping on floors or couches. 110 members from out-of-state didn't even go home for Thanksgiving because they couldn't have made it back for the Thursday practice.

A concentrated week of catching Harris passes in practice should help. I'm sure that the receivers have worked with him in practices over the year, but now that he appears to be next man up...

From my viewpoint, the 3 drops I saw vs Balls were all catchable, if less than perfect passes. It's almost as if our receivers have become used to passes dropping perfectly into their hands with Rourke! We have some real studs in the WR room, so I'm confident they can adjust. I agree 100% on OL play. They need to keep Harris clean and comfortable in the pocket or bad things could happen.

Harris should have a quick trigger on tucking and running with it. Get the ball out quick or look to scramble.

That being said, we're doomed if Harris goes down.

Watching BG offense, they run their RB in flats and 5 yards downfield as a checkdown. Bad tackling can lead to explosive plays. BG will spread us out and make us defend in space. Rallying to the ball will be so important this next game.
