As you may know, we were set to have our one guarantee game in 2023 be at Rutgers. That game was dropped. Don't remember why. We have three non conference games in the first three weeks of the season, but they are the FCS game against LIU and home/home returns with FAU and Iowa State. In a past thread I mentioned that Pitt, GA Tech, Baylor, and if things could be moved around, Miami (FL) are the only P5 teams that appear to still have an opening. I said that Pitt might be the most motivated to get another home game, but they have since added Wofford, so they are full.

GA Tech already has three of four non conference games scheduled, but none of them are in the first two weeks of the season. They're probably looking to fill during those weeks, when we are unavailable. The ACC wouldn't start a team with two conference games in the first two weeks would they? Could they?

Miami needs a game, but they already have one scheduled in week 4. BG also is open 9/23, so it is possible that if we schedule with the U on a different week, the MAC could have us visit BG in Week 4. Still, would we want to visit Florida twice in one season?

Baylor might be the most viable option. The Big 12 allows for only three non conference games and Baylor already has two home games. They host Utah as part of a home/home and host Texas State in what looks like part of a 2/1 deal. Would they want their last home game to be against a MAC contender or would they favor an FCS game.

If we don't get one of these three teams are other options are what?

1) A second FCS game?
2) Another home/home deal with a G5?
3) Somehow get out of some arrangements and convince another team to do the same?

Are you sure about the game being canceled ?

I got several buddies who are RU grads.

They've been talking all season about playing O.U.
next season.

Last Friday night, before they got pummeled by PSU they were talking about
having my wife and I at their tailgate for the game.

Yes, they are hosting Wagner not us on 9/30/23. But we are slated to play there on 8/30/25.

I would say offering a good deal to Baylor for a buy game would be our best approach. I do not think they will be too scared of us in their home stadium. And us being boxed in could be an attractive budget buy for a semi-quality win. Also we are open for either 9/23 or 9/30 which gives Baylor some flexibility working with us.

Rutgers initial announcement indicated that Ohio is the one who backed out of the game. I have to assume that meant we already had another game at the ready. Will we find out who's filling the schedule anytime soon? Who knows.

Ohio has a week 4 opening according to FB Schedules. We already have our P5 and FCS set so it most likely going to be another P5 buy away game or a start of a new H/H with a midmajor or we get an early MAC game and play a later non-conference game.

I sincerely doubt we'd get another G5 home game and have a 7 game home schedule. That would be unprecedented for Ohio in this day and age. Replace a paycheck game with another paycheck game. Miami and GT would be more winnable, but Baylor would be fantastic for any Bobcats who have never been down to Waco. Any Joanna Gaines fans? Dr. Pepper museum! And Baylor has an awesome stadium.
