Once again we flirt with and lose out on another big time recruit. I wonder what is it that The Ohio staff has to do to actually close the deal on a few of these game changers. I dont see how one or two every few seasons is not achievable. Looking at the top ranked guys in Ohio there are several in the Top 100 that other MAC or MAC level programs have a solid chance to land. Ohio Bobcats havent even offered. https://www.landof10.com/nebraska/deontai-williams-nebras...

How could we lose a potential recruit to Nebraska? Are you that naive? Nevermind.

According to the quoted article, Williams was also a one-time Georgia and Florida commit also. Those two schools are just a touch higher on the college football ladder than Ohio.....

He actually signed with Ohio out of high school, but it was fairly apparent that it was because the larger schools were done waiting for him to try to become eligible academically. Ohio gave him a chance, but he never made it and had to go to junior college.

We do need to win some of these battles, every successful team does.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

That’s really great insight. I can’t believe you aren’t on the coaching staff yet. We need to win battles for guys who can’t read too good? Because that’s what successful teams do? I guess we all have our own ideas of what success entails. This win at all costs mentallity can stay at the P5 schools in my opinion. I love college football for what it is. Amateur student athletes competing at a high level and graduating without any major embarrassments to themselves or their respective schools/teams.

I have only spoken the truth, you have to win in the living room to win on the gridiron. Who gets paid more college football coaches or professors? Frank Solich makes over $500,000 per year and that is not just to participate, that is to win or else Brian Knorr would still be coach. We all know that Ohio Universitiy’s sole purpose is to give young men and women the tools that they need to succeed in the future. We compete academically with other schools. We want to establish ourselves in every field of study to attract the best young men and women. We want our students to leave here with CONFIDENCE in their abilities due to the training that they received. We don’t want to have a mediocre pedagogy or mediocre coaching staffs. We play to win not just to participate.

Lol. Go convince an elite athlete who dreams about playing for a P5 program that they should instead come play for the Bobcats in podunk USA, for a coach that some think needs replaced, in a conference that some consider the worst in FBS. Pull your head out man. You can speak all the “truth” you want. It won’t change reality.

We did that already, Papi White was committed to Oklahoma State. Javon Hagan had multiple power 5 offers Big Ben turned down Ohio State because he was sold on the ability to play right away. You can't be like scooby doo when it comes to power 5 teams. We have to win some of those battles. The new recruit from Cleveland Heights turned down Boston College. Use your head and stop relying on your emotions.

Funny, how your memories make you look silly, never any promise of playing right away at Miami for Ben, in fact the plan all along was to red-shirt him. When the starter got hurt, Terry pulled the redshirt off of Ryan Hawk and not Ben for one game.

What emotions am I relying on Allen? I simply think blaming the coaching staff for "losing" a recruit to Nebraska is a bit of a reach.

Honestly, our only chance of getting him was for him to have become eligible out of high school, although no one expected it to happen. Ohio has taken a shot on these kinds of guys multiple times over the years. I really can't think of one that worked out. None of them ever become eligible and none of them commit to Ohio the second time when they have bigger offers after they go JUCO and become eligible.
