He looks like another talented DB. It seems to the that since the switch to the Cover 4, DB recruiting has improved dramatically.

the cover 4 is a debacle and has nothing to do with it.It does not showcase a players skill, it is a conservative defense that gives up underneath routes. We need to change our schemes offensively and defensively. We recruited two kids from this school last year. Let's keep the pipeline flowing.

So it would seem. Stability of the staff and being able to point to Carrie & Mitchell in the pros would be helpful too.

About the Cover 4.

The above is for information only. Please observe that this thread is about Mr. Drake. Hijackers, please, if you need to start a cover 4 discussion, start your own thread.

We may wish to send some credit the way of our DB coach.

Bcat, that's the wrong defense. That's the traditional use of the cover-4, as a prevent defense. Ohio plays it more like Michigan State, as an aggressive attacking defense.

Doesn't appear that any of the services have anything on him yet. Still, offers from Marshall and Kron aren't bad.

Thanks. Did I see TCU using it that way also? Those folks would, no doubt, be facinated by Allen's impression of their schemes.

We already went over the explosive plays and the blowouts, please don't make anyone rehash this. The cover 4 is awful. If we didn't have a couple cupcakes on the sched, we might have given up the most explosive plays in the nation. Please no brags about hanging with to 75 App State. Please DB coach, change the d, pleeaaaassssseeeee. There is one cover 4, let's stop putting lipstick on pigs.

In an attempt to get the discussion back on track, the cover 4 requires better, and/or different dbs. It is also attractive to dbs of the type that can play it well. Ohio has recruited significantly better dbs since making the switch. This fall will be a transition year, with younger, more athletic dbs taking over. That, combined with an extremely good front seven should make the defense look much different this year. If it doesn't, I may take Allen's side, but I'm keeping an open mind.

Tariq looks like an outstanding, athletic db who will fit well. Based on the people they have offered so far, thus far they are mostly after three star and up players, and are getting some. I consider Tariq to be that caliber of player.

Typical SFB--If you can't respond with facts, logic, reasoning, then go to blather.

I don't know a thing about the young man and don't have time to research. But offers from 'kron, Rob Morris, YSU, Herd--doesn't strike me as the biggest recruiting coup ever.

11+ years in and this is peer group with which we're competing??

Allen--You are THE MAN.

No, not the "biggest recruiting coup ever." Who said he was? Does every one need to be? Four offers is four more than Mr. Carrie came with. Hey everyone, Breaking News, Monroe is not impressed. So what else is new.

You don't know anything about the recruit, but you're willing to take a shot at him (and four other schools) based upon his recruiting resume? Sounds about right.

I believe the recruit can play, and I am happy to have him. I just question the scheme and the ability of the scheme to get better recruits. Maybe for a safety, it gives then more opportunities to cover or tackle in the open field. The scheme is actually for teams that don't have the ability to match up. It is sort of like the prevent defense. I hope I am wrong.

It's in no way a shot at the young man.

It's a questioning of the influence and regard in which our coaching staff is held.

Tt may be that 1) the young man can flat out play well so that the quality of offers is irrelevant or 2) this is a one-off and the rest of our recruits will sport offers from 'name' schools. And, (alleged) offers/interest from 'name' schools doesn't mean that a recruit will turn out to be a good player.

But quality of offers is the most immediately visible evidence of assumed quality of the player.

So, I think that it's a fair criticism to expect to see some elevation in names tagged to our recruits after 11 years if our coaching staff is as highly regarded as you SFB believe.

IF you're a revered, deity, you should be able to do better than Rob Morris and YSU.

Bcat2--Carrie was (apparent medical condition, right?) probably a one-off get. I'm not sure that exceptional case should be held as the rule....But,of course, you know that..It's just that you won't ever admit the truth if it could possibly controvert your SFB belief in the perfectness of our staff....Keep blowing hard, my man, keep blowing hard.

Hey Mr negativity,
We did better than RM and YSU, but you apparently didn't get that aspect of the facts.
You're hopeless.

I mentioned 'kron and Herd. Those are at best peer group.

Rob Mo and YSU are less than peer group to me. And to you.

Name one of those four from which you'd say we had a 'get' or we kinda stole one.

After 11 years, I'd hope that overall we do better than this.

Again, it's only one indicator. And it's inexact. But it's about as good as we can get at this stage.

What, you'd object if we got a guy who had offers from Syracuse or Maryland or Utah or Penn State or Tennessee or such?

What, you don't expect that after 11 years of what the SFB see as rather grand success, that we bring on a fair number, a reasonable handful, of young men with offers from these places.

So far, I'm winning.

I think our other verbal had a offer from
Syracuse. How about that?
I hate to tell you but Marshall is more of a football destination than Ohio, for what it's worth.
Do you really expect Ohio to get all guys who have offers from P-5 schools as well? It's not going to happen that often.

So just exactly are you winning. The battle of complaining?

Yes, Mr. Mitchell apparently had offers from Appalachian State (finished in the Top 30-35 this past year), Indiana, Syracuse, Temple and South Florida, all schools at least on par if not greater than Ohio in major college football. Not bad company.

GO CAVS!

Yes, I expect Ohio to compete against P-5 schools. We've done it plenty before and there is absolutely no reason we cannot continue to do exactly the same.

One of our biggest obstacles in this department is a constant limitation of expectations from a segment of our fanbase. Think bigger.

I don't think that the fan base being half way rational about our ability to get top recruits is in any way keeping us from getting those recruits. Please tell me why we are not getting all 3 and 4 star guys because of what the fan base thinks.

I don't think that the fans have much impact on recruiting, and that is a good thing, because otherwise you'd see recruiting violations. The coaches seem to have a sound strategy. Each year they send out 100 or so offers to top players, 3-4 star player types. They land as many of those as they can, then they supplement those top players with players that they see in their camps around the state in June.

Any player that verbals this time of year, such as Tariq or Mitchell, is a player they consider to be a 3-4 star player. I'll take ten more verbals from those early offers, if we can get them.

Nice pick-up from a good football school with a lot of history . Two players in the 2016 class will contribute very early. I like this pipeline.

Fun fact LaBrae is consolidation of Leavittsburg and Braceville school districts a long time ago.
