Since this will be such a small class, it's filling up pretty fast. Re-posting this table
By June Jul Aug Sept Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb
2005 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 20 6
2006 0 0 0 0 0 3 1 9 6
2007 0 0 0 1 1 1 4 5 9
2008 0 0 0 0 0 0 9 2 9
2009 0 0 0 2 0 3 2 3 11
2010 0 2 1 2 1 0 0 3 7
2011 2 2 3 0 0 0 0 4 5
2012 0 0 0 4 1 1 4 5 4
2013 1 10
2014 5 . 8 3
2015 6 6 1
It looks like the class could be mostly full by the end of July since the total class size will only be 12-14 players, most likely. That would be a first.
Edit - As of the end of July there are 12 recruits, of whom 11 are known. I would say that the class is mostly full at this point. No doubt the class will be slightly bigger than we can foresee because some players will leave the program, and because it's possible that some of these 12 will be non-qualifiers, but it's difficult to imagine this class being as big as 20. Therefore I'm not expecting a lot of additional recruits between now and February.

LC, there's going to be a lot more than 14 recruits if we keep losing players like we are. With all the non-qualifiers as well. There always are more than we think back in June.

Scholarships for the transfers will take a few, then, there will be some walk-ons who will earn a few. Still it seems the class should have a few yet to give. Roll them all up; recruits, transfers and walk-ons and there should be a lot for which to be thankful.

Well, starting with Ted's list, there are 82 players on scholarship. From today's news, Schany was declared medically ineligible, and is off the team, dropping the number to 81. Of these, 12 are Seniors, taking the number to 69. In theory that leaves 16 scholarships they could award, but there were 2 players in last year's class that were given grayshirts because not enough scholarships were available, Royster and Freuauf. Those need to come off the top, taking you to 14.
Now, there could be some other changes with regards to walkon status. I note that Venham and Rodriguez are not in fall camp, and will join the team when the roster expands to 120 players. Is that a sign that one or both are no longer on scholarship? I don't know. Conversely, there are several walkons who are listed on the preseason depth chart as second string, and those players could earn scholarships. That would be Devin Jones (CB), Zach Adams (LT), and Cody Grillot (MLB).
Taking the most extreme case, say that Venham and Rodriguez have lost their scholarships, and that no walkons will get one, that would get you to 16 available. At the other extreme, if Venham and Rodriguez still have scholarships, and three walkons get scholarships, you are down to 11 available.
I understand that there will be injuries that may cause players to leave, and there may be transfers, but even adding 3 to the list as a typical number, that means that the available scholarships are probably between 14 and 19, and I'm sticking to a guess that it will be no more than 16 when it's all done. I'm not going to go with the thinking that classes will always be big. The 2010 class that this replaces was only 13 players.
If the number ends up 16, and there are already 13 verbals (of which 11 are known), there won't be a lot more news from this forum until January.

Ah, I didn't realize that the no shows weren't on the roster. That's 3 spots, you are probably more right, my bad

How is Ohio doing at in-state recruiting against other MAC teams? When Ohio offered, and the other team also offered, and the recruit selected one of those two teams:
vs Toledo Won 4 (Fair, Cloud, Williams, Pleasants) Lost 2 (Bell, Harris)
vs BG Won 2 (Cloud, Stevens-Mackenzie) Lost 2 (Jones, Lautanen)
vs Miami Won 0, Lost 1 (Leever)
vs WMU Won 1 (Stevens-Mackenzie) Lost 0
vs Akron Won 3 (Stevens-Mackenie, Pleasants, Williams) Lost 0
vs Kent Won 1 (Fair) Lost 0
vs Ball State Won 1 (Williams) Lost 0
vs EMU Won 3 (Fair, Glasco, M. Williams) Lost 0

Whatever happened to the commitment from the DB Maxwell Howell? Is he no longer committed to the football program? He was technically the first commit to this class.

Given the lack of new tweets related to #DreamGreen15 or from @CoachBurrow I am pretty sure that Hagan is not a new commit, and that he was one of the two from July that we weren't able to identify.
Edit - at this point we have 12 known recruits. There may or may not be more. I think that the last tweet above had 12 faces, so at this point I am thinking that Hagan and Maxwelll were both verbals from July that were only later identified by us.
With the addition of Bubba Williams, there are 13 Seniors on scholarship, so the class will be at least 13. My current guess is that it will end up with about 15-16 in this class.

The last tweet had 13 faces, so there must be one more we haven't identified.

OK, thanks. That tweet was 8/3, the date that Quinton Maxwell was announced, so there must still be one from July that is undiscovered. With 13 verbals, and only 13 Seniors on scholarship, this board may be quiet until after the season, at which point they will have a better idea of who might be leaving the program.

Yikes...I see 247 Sports has us with 11 recruits (only 2-3star guys)and ranked #9 in the MAC and #116 Nationally in recruiting this year. Anybody else have some concerns about this class so far?

Casper, when the year is over, Ohio will finish very close to last in FBS in recruiting on all the rankings. We knew that going in. That's because this team has very few Seniors, so it will be a very small recruiting class, probably 13-17 players. Quantity is as important as quality.
The key goal for this year was to make sure that the quality of the individual players in this year's class was high. At this point, of the 12 known recruits, 6 of them have been rated 3-star by at least one service, and more could be when they finally get rated. I don't think the quality is any lower than in past years, but it remains to be seen if it is higher.
As regards 247Recruiting, last year they were really on top of things, and evaluated all the Ohio recruits almost as soon as they came in. This year they are asleep at the switch when it comes to Ohio, and to most of the MAC.
Ohio actually has 13 recruits (we think), though we only know who 12 of them are. Of the 12, 247Sports has only rated 4 of them, plus picked up ratings from other services on Hagen. They are doing better on a few MAC teams, but on most they either have not identified their recruits, or haven't rated them.
Number Rated, Number Listed WMU 20/23 NIU 18/20 Toledo 14/20 CMU 12/16 Miami 7/15 Ball State 12/14 BG 9/12 EMU 7/15 Ohio 4/11 Buffalo 3/7 UMass 2/7 Kent 2/5 Akron 0/3
I suppose maybe they had some budget cuts this year. Either that or with the whole P5/G5 split, they no longer care at all about the MAC, but they are doing a poor job of ranking MAC recruits compared to how they did last year. For the MAC they have rated only 110 of the 168 people they have identified, and I doubt they are even close to identifying all the recruits. I suspect their recruiting rankings will change a lot before the year is over.
Interestingly, while 247Sports is paying much less attention to the MAC this year than last year, ESPN seems to be paying more. In prior years they only rated 1-4 Bobcat recruits, and just listed the rest as unrated. This year they have rated 7 of them (5 of them they rated 3 stars).
Scout.com seems to be leading at "rating" everyone, but I think it's an illusion. It seems that as soon as they list someone they put a 2-star rating on them, so when you see a 2-star rating, you can't tell if they even looked at the film and did an actual rating, so it's impossible to know how many they have actually rated. Rivals is doing the worst of the lot. They have only identified 5 Bobcat recruits so far, though they have rated all 5.

L.C.--The class that is this year's freshmen appears to be terrific--about eight guys have played, I think.
We all thought that the incoming last year (2013) were pretty good but not many of them had effect in that year (though some are this year) if I recall correctly. What's your eval of the 2013 and 2012 classes at this point?

I have my own methods for evaluating them after the fact. At this point, this is how I rate the classes back to 2006, and some of the best players from those classes: 2006 (Germano) - 2.68 (Price, Hodge, Luchsinger, Posey, McCrae, Williamson, Garrett, S. Jackson) 2007 (Germano) - 2.65 (Keller, Flading, Dunlop, Strum, Brazill, Harden, Davidson, C. Meyers) 2008 (Germano) - 2.93 (Huynh, Carlotta, Carrie, Weller, Herman, Thompson, Lewis, Futrell, Moore, Tafua) 2009 (Germano) - 2.94 (Lechner, Hughes, Fortune, Woseley, Allen, Dovell, Jones, Foster, McGrath) 2010 (Isphoding) - 2.15 (Carpenter, Cochran, Krstoff, Ingol) 2011 (Haines) - 2.59 (Russell, L. Smith, Crutcher, McQueen, Wells, Vick, Purdum, Jov. Johnson, Bass, Lucas) 2012 (Haines) - 2.86 (Gibbons, Watson, Laseak, Patterson, B. Brown, Tor. Davis, Reid) 2013 (Haines) - 3.16 (Wood, Sayles, Poling, Basham, Mangen, Cope, McLeod) 2014 (Haines) - 3.40 (Lowery, McCray, Walker, Brunson, White, Preuhs, Brunis, Nelson, Langenkamp)
The numbers for the last few classes could go up or down, depending on how the players who we haven't seen much of yet turn out. They usually go down a little, but it seems clear to me that the 2013-2014 classes are the best yet. That's reflected in the fact that an unusually high number of True Freshmen, and Redshirt Freshmen are playing a big role in the current team, and bodes well for the next few years.
As for the 2015 class, I think the quality will be similar to 2013-2014, but the class size will be smaller, so the impact will be smaller.

It's an arbitrary scale where 4 is a star, 3 is a solid role player, 2 is an occasional contributor, and 1 is someone that never played. The numbers given are my averages for those classes. To give a specific example, let's look at some players from the 2007 class. I gave a 4 to Brazill, a 3 to Curt Meyers, a 2 to Dustin Laudermilch, and a 1 to Brian Sweeney. Brazill was certainly a star. Meyers was a very good, solid player, and maybe should be higher. Laudermilch was good, and started a few games, but had injury issues, so he didn't play a lot. Sweeney had talent, but was never able to play due to injury issues.
Other people would no doubt rate individual players differently than I did, so it's a very subjective rating. Anyone that wants to do their own ratings is welcome to do them, and it would be interesting to see how closely they agreed with mine.

First through fourth, I want to know what we have on the D-line.
Then, I want to know what we have at defensive back and tight end.
And, that's it.
Get those right and we roll.
