MAC Golf Results

Does anybody really care about how the men's golf team does?
The men just finished last in the conference by 23 strokes. I don't really follow them. How have they done over the past 5 years or so? Just wondering if there is any interest in improving the results.

It's probably something people only pay a slight amount of attention to if they are good. Looks like they were ninth this year, eighth last year, eighth in 2014, eighth in 2013 and third in 2012. The year before that was ninth. So the Bobcats have been last or second to last four years in a row and five of the last six.

It's a bad program. Having no 18-hole courses in Athens County has to hurt their recruiting efforts. This would be one of the reasons I doubt I'd ever move back to Athens.

I care. I've had the pleasure of meeting several members of the men's and women's teams over the last couple of years as well as their respective coaches.

They will be the first to tell you that the facility issue is a hindrance. However, it hasn't diminished their spirit and as far as I can tell, like the commercial says, they are all happy to be Bobcats.

Now if you can scrape up some tweets of golfers whining about a lack of playing time, or coaching decisions, or the unbearable cost of being a student athlete, or scheduling, maybe I'll rethink my positive impression.

Oh, and they can all thump me using a set of kid's clubs if they want to, so I would suggest that rather than the program being "bad" they are losing to some very, very talented players.

I didn't say the players were bad, I said the program is bad. They do not have an adequate facility to hone their skills. Kent has an unbelievable advantage because they have a great course and and all-season practice facility. I feel bad for the players at Ohio because they simply do not have access to what they need to continue to improve while they're on campus.
