Marietta College baseball at NCAA Div. III World Series

MC is ranked #1 in NCAA Div. III with a current record of 45-3 (they had several games cancelled due to weather earlier in the Spring.). The Pioneers earned their way to the NCAA Div. III national championships in Appleton, WI. The Pioneers have won their first three games in the eight-team, double elimination tournament. This puts them in the most advantageous position entering today's play.

The Pioneers will either play a team tomorrow that has to beat them twice to take the title away from them...or MC may end up in a winner take all single game depending on the outcome of today's games.

Congratulations to the Pioneers for their excellent season. Good luck in the remainder of the tournament. Hope you bring home your fifth national championship!

To Andrew Ruck: I think that MC could be competitive in the MAC.

Marietta is now 4-0 in the Div. III national championships. The Pioneers play Chapman University (CA) today. Chapman has one loss in the tournament. If MC wins, they are national champions. If MC loses, MC has to play a second game today for the national title, also vs. Chapman.

Marietta College won the NCAA Division III national championship today with an 18-5 victory over Chapman U. (CA) in the second game of a doubleheader today. The second game became necessary when Chapman handed MC it's only loss of the tournament in the first game of the DH.

MC finishes with an astounding record of 47-4. Chapman finishes at 37-13.

This is Marietta's fifth national championship and the 12th time they have been in a national championship game. Both are records for NCAA Division III.

Marietta’s legacy grows with fifth title

Marietta was routed by Chapman (Calif.) in the NCAA Division III tournament yesterday but returned the favor in the second and deciding game to win its fifth baseball national championship. The five titles are the most ever in Division III.The top-ranked Pioneers (47-4) dropped the first game 15-4 but won the double-elimination tournament with an 18-5 victory in the second game in Grand Chute, Wis. “We consider ourselves to be the best Division III baseball program in the country,” coach Brian Brewer said, “and now that we have more than anyone else, I guess we can brag a little bit more.”Marietta also beat Chapman (37-13) on Saturday, but the Panthers played their way through the loser’s bracket to set up the deciding doubleheader. In the second game, Austin Blaski pitched six innings and allowed two hits for the Pioneers, who took a 9-1 lead by scoring seven runs in the third inning. Aaron Hopper went 4 for 5 with a double and four RBI to the lead the Marietta offense, which scored three times in the fourth and fifth innings for a 16-1 cushion after six. Marietta’s 18 runs are the second-most scored in a Division III championship game.
