ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University women’s golf team has been recognized as one of the top academic programs in the nation.
The National Golf Coaches Association notices the 25 women's golf squads that collect the highest collective average team GPA which includes all of the team’s student-athletes for the 09-10 season. The Bobcats were 18th with a 3.571 average team GPA.
A few weeks ago, Ohio had a nation-high six student-athletes named NGCA All-American Scholar Recipients as Erin Cahill (Accounting), Megan Weaver (Mathematics), Meryl Weaver (Integrated Math Education), Sarah Tranelli (Broadcast Journalism), Colleen Lienesch and Jordan Fesh (Communications) were honored for their success in the classroom.
"These student-athletes are just that - student-athletes," Head Coach Kelly Ovington said. "Not only do they excel on the golf course but in the classroom as well. The stress of college is great and then to throw all of the demands of playing a Division I sport on top of that takes great dedication and sacrifice. Their organization and time-management skills are vitally important and have a significant impact on their success. I am very proud of the hard work and dedication these young ladies have shown."
