That's a relief. . . at least it will be Wednesday when it becomes official. . . although in the portal era it's never really official.

Thanks anyways, OU Long Driver.

Big time relief to be able to keep the Power 5's off him down the stretch. Can't wait to see him in a Bobcat uniform.

I was 98% sure I saw Ayden in attendance for the Delaware game with another kid that appeared about the same age. Sure enough, his IG story shows him and another guy in Ohio uniform, I'm assuming after the game, and it's the same kid. Another recruit? Any idea who the other player was?

No idea who other kid was - pointed him out to a friend I was sitting with in O-Zone yesterday. I'm 100% sure though it was Ayden.

It likely was. According to their high school head coach, his brother Alex is likely to join the Bobcats next year as well.

https://www.bgdailynews.com/sports/prep/short-handed-purp...

“Elizabethtown (3-0) featured an imposing frontcourt headlined by Ohio University signee Ayden Evans, a 6-foot-10 center offering an intriguing matchup for the 6-8 Ritter. But while both played well, it was a pair of players still chasing NCAA Division I offers who really stood out Tuesday.

Evans' younger brother, 6-5 forward Alex Evans, posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Bowling Green senior guard M.J. Wardlow scored 12 points and pulled down six rebounds to keep the Purples within striking distance until late.

Elizabethtown coach James Haire said Alex Evans will likely join his brother at Ohio next season -- both are seniors. As for Wardlow, Sherrill said interest continues to pick up for the 6-foot playmaker.”

Well this is a developing situation and sounds like a good one as you get the impression Alex is going to be opening more D-One eyes as the season goes on.

Kid looks talented, but he doesn't put up gaudy numbers and he definitely doesn't have a D-1 body yet. If he comes to Athens like that next year he's going to get abused for a hot minute and might take a year or two to get his body to the point he can contribute at this level.

Not meant to be a knock, I'm glad we signed him. Just saying pump the brakes on penciling him in as the answer to our post player prayers as a freshman next year. Wiz might be in for more minutes next year than many want/hope.

I’m not penciling him into play 10-15 minutes his freshman year, but he has the tools and will get stronger. He’s rated as a top 5 power forward in Kentucky. I’ll take that.

Since he's built in the traditional lanky tall forward way and can step out and hit a three, wouldn't it make sense for him to backup Clayton and Hadaway as a forward more than a post?

I just want him to be rotation ready. He doesn't need to be the answer. It will be a net positive if he can get on the floor in addition to Clayton, Hadaway, and Wiz. It will be a net positive if his addition, plus others, allows us to play Hadaway at the SF spot where he may be more natural.

From what I've read/seen he's grown and is now a legit 6'10. Sure I guess he could play some 4 here and there, but a 6'10 rim protector in the MAC is going to be your center, no? I do think his defense might actually be ahead of his offense in that regard. Kid is only scoring 10-12 a night in HS playing kids 6'4, but he's averaging 3 blocks per game.

I'll be honest I have no idea what our rotation is going to look like next year. Lots of variables and unknowns.

12 a night in high school is 10 more than Jason Preston averaged.

Get him in the weight room and wonderful things can happen. He may not magically turn into Anthony Davis overnight, but he could be a solid college player.

Fun factoid: Luke Kornet (Boston Celtics) averaged 4ppg as a true freshman in college.

Ended the season averaging 16 and 10, so his production ticked up a bit. I'll take it.

Congrats to Ayden on the All-Star game nod.

Interesting that he expects to "be used on the perimeter" and "possibly handle the ball more".

I guess that's great if you're Kevin Durant and heading to the NBA. At 6'10 I want him planted on the low block, dunking the ball, rebounding and blocking shots. It's what we need.

I think he was referring to how he could be used in the all star game.

I'm sure Coach Boals will make wise decisions about how to use him.
