Thanks to Jason Corriher for the heads up.

Spring Roster (PDF)

Observations:
- Seems like a lot more walk-ons than usual
- Travis Carrie listed as safety
- No Eric Kenkel or Jordan Meyers so, as posted by someone on here, they are not returning
- Ejike back for another season
- Kadre Pinder not on roster

Thanks Ted and Jason.

Ejike is a surprise -- is that correct?  Looking at his bio it sure seems like he's played four years.  Maybe they talked the NCAA into a redshirt for one of them, but I didn't really believe that was possible.

I can't remember where but somebody mentioned Pinder wouldn't be around until fall.

Frank said at the signing day press conference that the JC signee wouldn't be here until summer camp. I believe the confusion is he appears in the student directory because he was enrolled here before leaving for JC a year ago.

Also Theo put on "some good weight" says Frank here:
http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/03300...

Up to 209 from 195, hopefully will help him avoid injury if he takes a shot or two this season.

According to sportsfan radio show:
* Bunner, Schussler, C. Meyers, Reilly, Posey, Harden, Morsillo, Sweeney among others either out or limited for Spring ball...5 OLs out for spring ball (4 injured, 1 suspended)...no traditional spring game because of this...practice + scrimmage instead.
*Flading (RG) & Carlotta (LG) running with the ones today.

I also notice that Kyle Robbins, returning starter at long snapper, is not on the roster.

There is someone listed at LS named Jeremy LaVoie, who at one time was reportedly headed to Columbus.

(Sidenote: It's amazing how little some of those people-- with 17,000 posts on a football recruiting board-- know about NCAA recruiting rules.)

Nice to see some Princeton folks on board in Chris Kamerer and Jeremy Mathews. Kamerer's dad was my 8th grade math teacher. I was extremely surprised that Mathews didn't get much love coming out of high school. He was a do-everything player and an exceptional leader. I've seen him play LB, RB, WR, and return kicks and he performed marvelously with each role. I'm not thrilled with our LB depth, so I think he has a shot to break through at LB, where I've seen him absolutely crush running backs. There's no way he's 6'4'' though. 6'1'' tops.

I recognize the Darnell Harris name. He was with us last spring and looked very good playing DE in the spring game as he consistently got in the backfield. Looks like we're trying him at TE.

Ask me about the women's restroom at the Junction.

Could Jordan and Kenkel still be recovering from injuries and that be the reason they're not listed?

They would still be on the roster. Both have been in the program 4 years so they should be close to completing degrees.

RDT's (Random Doc Thought's)

* Some local stars now on the team.....Joey Inks quite the RB at West Jefferson as was QB Jeff Golden at Gallia Academy....local star Robbie Spencer of Marietta seems to be gone.

* Not only is Robbins gone from LBer...so seems to be Chad Clemens and Cleve Kirkland....nice to see new long snappers.

* The kicking game seems to have added 3 more kickers....nice to have some options and competition.

* I think Ryan Clark at CB was going to Air Force.

* Not only have we added Inks at RB but Devin Favors has some good size at 215 pounds.

* Cody Carr has always looked like a WR.....nice target at 6'5" but a bit thin at 200 to play TE....nice hands.

* Good to see Laudermilch's name....thought he was going to be one of those injured or gone linemen....nice size at 315.

* Marcellis Williamson's weight goes up every year (340 something now)....hopefully his pt at DT will as well.

* If Edwards is out for a while and Ejike is truly back (maybe Edwards too) then OLB doesn't look as thin.....did I see Melvin Payne at LB as well?

* Nice to see some added depth with some of the new guys being names I've heard of before.

* What kind of spring game are we looking at....if any with all the injuries.

* This roster pumps me up.....time for a Solich Soarer flight.

There are always a lot more walkons in the Spring than in the fall. With ~20 players having completed their eligibility in the fall, and the new recruits not coming until Fall, that leaves room for an extra 20 walkons. Also, at the start of fall there is a limit of 105 players prior to the first game. I'm not sure what the limit is for Spring, if any. Thus Spring is a great time for additional people to try out and I think it's pretty normal to have a large number of walkons. Many of these will be gone come fall.

As for Carrie, I believe he was listed as a Safety last year, but seems to be able to play a variety of positions.

Also putting on weight at QB was Bates, up to 224 from his his high school weight of 189. The weight changes at RB were kind of surprising, with Garret jumping from 178 to 190,  but meanwhile Harden dropped from 188 to 174 and Davidson dropped from 194 to 186.

Clemens is still there, at #44.

If I figured correctly, the nine healthy linemen are Rodgers, Carlotta, White, Herman, Flading, Philibin, Flowers, and two walkons, Batsakes and a new name, JD Bales. Britain and Laudermilch may see some limited action.

Doesn't the athetic department put limits on the roster size of each sport?  If so what is it for football?  Does anyone know?

I saw Phil Bates on campus and he is a big guy...looks more like a linebacker than a QB!!!!

Well to me it is.......of course I'm a former resident of Madison County.

Columbus is actually closer than West Jeff so ya got me on that one.

Joey Inks is on the Cats team, that guy is one tough kid, I'm not kidding. He could be our next star back if he keeps progressing. You can tell I am a Madison County guy too.

Can somebody help me understand how Ejike can play this season?  As far as I can tell, he played in 2005 and 2006 at Kilgore, and 2007 and 2008 at Ohio.

The same reason Kenny Hayes is coming back to Miami next year...the NCAA is being more lenient on granting medical redshirts. Since Ejike was hurt during the Wyoming game a few years back, and he missed the rest of the season, he's getting another year. In the past, the NCAA has been pretty strict about the 20% rule, but apparently not so much any more.

Ejike's return is indeed a pleasant positive surprise. Keller mentioned the importance of OLB's being able to cover the pass in our defensive scheme and Ejike has played some CB.

Now if Meyers and Kenkel and the OL injured return healthy then we'll indeed be strong heading into the first game.

Interesting ... Mr. Kamerer was my math teacher, too. I got to know him a little outside of the classroom, and he's a great guy.
