I don't believe Boals is counting on Pav gaining 1 more year of eligibility and that he's still looking to add a point guard. However, I'm not sure what is available this late in the year.

Paveletzke has now joined a lawsuit in Indiana since the South Carolina case went south - https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/tamin-lipsey-sues-ncaa-... . No ruling from this one yet but it adds some hope.

Worth noting that none of the original players in the Ohio lawsuit are in this (including Mahaffey and Woolfolk). This suit is a collection of players who have tried, and failed, to get eligibility in other state courts (like Pav in South Carolina). So Pav now has 2 ways to get eligibility:

1. Federal case in Colorado - although this seems unlikely to be a win
2. State case in Indiana - There is real hope in this one but worth tempering expectations, as the NCAA has been on a roll defending these cases.

The South Carolina case is still dead in the water and the Ohio case (with Miami and Akron players) is still in proceedings.

This feels. . .surprising.

Setting aside Pavs and the uncertainty there, you still have KDA, Mitchell, Brogan, Burris, and Petkov. And the roster actually lists Ledegen as a guard, too.

I wonder who has been underwhelming in practice.

Yea, yikes. No way this is tied to KDA and Mitchell. How bad is the trio of Brogan, Burris, Petkov? Or is Pavs return less likely now?

I could go for a 6-3 guard that only touches the ball when he steals it or grabs a rebound. A guy that plays 10-12 minutes a game and his man seldom scores and his teammates seldom have to provide help. That guy plays at the end of a close game and the opponent has to figure who their offense should run through since the normal channel to get the ball is locked down.

There has got to be some fifth year guy who played defensive back somewhere that played basketball in high school that has a motor that won't stop and QB's couldn't throw his way without the pass being defensed. He pissed the football coaches off because he was always playing hoops in the off season. Maybe he transfers in for winter semester. Miami's guard a few years ago became an NFL DB so why can't there be in the era of NIL paydays a football db who double dips in a year and finishes college playing basketball?

Doesn't Jason Preston have one more year of eligibility? Let's press the envelope.

I don't doubt we can find someone with all the new eligibility surfacing. Schools at all levels are still making additions. I think the concern is why does our staff feel they "desperately" need another guard? That's a strong word to describe the situation.

Exactly. I hope this was misquoted.

My glass half full take on this is that the staff is “frantically” trying to find another guard, but not because the guards we have aren’t any good. My hope is that it’s because they were banking on bringing back Pav all along, and that no longer looks like a sure thing. The legal situation there seemed to turn against the athletes pretty quickly, thus leaving the staff to “frantically” search for another guard for depth.

Have no idea if there’s any truth to that, but it’s what I’m choosing to stay positive with.

My guess is you are on to something with this interpretation.

Take this for what it's worth, but my Court St. source tells me that Pav, along with Chase Boals, is at Courtside tonight.

Not sure who else saw it, but a video on the socials yesterday was Boals talking about Pavs. To paraphrase, it's still up in the air for right now but he's still working out with the team and the hope is that he can play this season.

Pav has now officially been granted eligibility via the Indiana case (for now). This entire process continues to swing pretty wildly where the players had all the momentum, then it swung aggressively towards the NCAA, and now it seems to be turning back in the favor of the athletes.

Two Hoosier football players are cleared to play Saturday; if they play a game it seems hard to bar them from future games. Looking better for Pav to play.

Not so fast - Just saw that Thomas Castellanos who has played in 3 games for Texas Tech this season is now ruled ineligible again after a reversal in Kentucky.

If ever there was a team all of us will need a roster to keep track of who's who, it is this year's Bobcat basketball team. Thinking I might take in Saturday morning's intra-squad scrimmage in the Convo, I took a quick look at our roster to start learning names and numbers. One thing that caught my eye is that new big man Dusan Makitan is assigned #13, the number Pav wore the last two seasons. A thing or not a thing?

We couldn't just let sleeping dogs lie.
Is the sleeping dog your take that Pavs is a bad player?
Nah Pavs is a good player. Just a deficient player. He could be a solid piece on a lot of teams. Specifically ones that hide his deficiencies. We do not. Maybe we can figure out a way to bring Simmons off the bench so our entire starting 5 can be under 6'3 (that's sarcasm).

The sleeping dogs comment is more about moving on from last years team. It was one of the most unlikeable teams I think I ever remember. Boals said he needed an entire cultural reset after the season. I agreed. We spent the off-season doing a 180 on recruiting and going all-in on FIBA U. I was excited to see how it all came together.

Then we decided to run it back with Pavs at the 11th hour.

Maybe you're onto something with the leverage comment and we got him on the cheap. I still would have passed. Not because he's not talented. Just because I want to put everything about last year behind us. Make it a clean break and move on.
I would add that last year Boals was an unlikeable coach as well. His body language was awful and he drew countless technical fouls in key spots in games. He allowed the culture to stay bad all year and did not help himself by playing a guy like Ajay Sheldon, who is a fantastic Bobcat and seemed like a great, stand-up kid, too much. Sheldon was not a Division 1 basketball player yet he played 36 minutes a game. It's all fine and dandy that Boals did a 180 on recruiting but he, himself, will need to turn a maturity corner as well this year for us to be successful. GO BOBCATS
