Also, a note, people keep saying this was at the end of the game and Reese stalked Clark. I don't believe that is accurate. There were 53.7 seconds left and players were standing around for a free throw IIRC. Not that it makes it better or worse, but this was not at games end (the game was decided though).
She did it twice. The time you mentioned, and as the ball was being dribbled out as time expired. More reason it was forced and premeditated and not just getting caught "in her moment."

It's called class. Look it up in a dictionary. LSU has none - and that includes their wackadoo coaches who accept this abhorrent behavior and shrug it off as "characters". That's not a character, that's disgusting behavior. And you should be ashamed. There's another word to look up in the dictionary since you likely have none of that either. Cool look on the brightest stage of all time (sarcasm).

I've heard Reese makes quite a bit of change from her NIL.
I've heard the same. I'd love to determine what companies are on that list so I can ensure I never spend a nickel on them. And good luck with that ROI.

Clark is amazing, but are pull-up 35-footers really good for the game like some imply?
It depends on what you mean by good for the game. Are 35 footers a good shot for mortals? Heck no. But what about when you're Steph Curry or Caitlyn Clark and make them at a 38% or greater clip? That's almost undefensible. Mortals shouldn't try to emulate that. It's not just her shooting 35 footers that makes her so exciting though. It's her handles. Her passing. She can drive. She can rebound. She plays the game the right way IMO and there's nothing she can't do.

I mean that's a little nit-picky. There was under a minute left. The outcome was decided. The game was stopped for FT. Iowa was pulling players - either Clark was getting pulled (I think but don't exactly remember) or was at least walking over to her bench when Reese followed her halfway across the court to get in her face.

+2 It was 100% premeditated and she said as much in the post game when she mentioned the South Carolina thing and some sort of BS "SEC sister/brotherhood" they have. Make no mistake, Clark has been cocky this entire season and has done her fair share of trash talk. But the following her on court as the clock wound down and trying to get in her face every turn Clark made on the court was over the top.
If any other team other than Clark and Iowa would have used that same strategy against South Carolina - not guarding all the way out to the three - nobody would have said a god damn word about it. She was THE FACE of women's college basketball this year and for the better part of 16 months going into season's end prior. LSU wanted to shut her up and they did! Congrats to them.

Three times, actually. She did it first toward her bench, which got the LSU crowd in a frenzy, then carried it over toward the FT line. Then again at the buzzer.
Almost definitely was premeditated.
I'm sure her NLI will skyrocket for next year, LSU will be on national TV a ton more than they would have been, and there will probably even be a for-TV rematch next season.
She already has more NIL's than any basketball player, men's or women's.

Well one, social media means nothing to me. It's half bots and half lunatics with no grasp on reality.
But sure I didn't insinuate that on the macro level my decision will have any effect. Doesn't mean I'm still not going to do it on principle. And who knows maybe a few tens hundreds or thousands will as well. Maybe not. At least I won't be contributing to her "brand" which we need less of.

Did you have any idea what the context was before you posted your awful take?
Jill Biden said the runner ups (predominantly white team) should also be invited to the White House because they played such a great game. (They lost by 17)

Yes I knew about Jill's comment and invite but thanks for your snide opinion that my take was awful. So is yours. Feel better now?
Should Iowa get invited too? I dunno. I probably wouldn't have just bc they lost but it's not some salacious scandal. If that's enough to make her want to run to the Obamas (let's not pretend the race of the potus isn't the reason for this miopic world view) then that's on her and says a ton more about her than anything else.
Which aligns perfectly with her pitiful display during the game. So yes, I stand by my par for the course comment.

Rarely post except for random recruiting shares. I'll save the whole "I played hs bball and coached hs bball(both true)" credentials post. What I will say is that, in general, the transition of sports at all levels to a "me-first" and "ego-centric" culture is tough to watch. Without heading down culture lane, I would say it is reflective of our society. It is hard as an educator to instill what I believe are still key values (humility, service, teamwork, sportsmanship, etc.) when kids don't see that in society or sports.
I will share that it then makes those who demonstrate that to be unique and special in today's world. We have worked hard to instill that in our high school athlete daughter. Without oversharing, her bball team plays in a league with a FANTASTIC Ohio High School team. They have a special group who has won two state championships and may win a few more. Their best player is a top 5 nationally-ranked player. She plays and presents what you want to see...humility, hustle, selflessness, class, sportsmanship, etc. My daughter says she is the same way on the court.
Makes me cheer for her even more. Maybe..one day, that pendulum will swing back to those athletes being our focus.

In her defense, it was in response to Jill Biden suggesting that both LSU and Iowa be invited to the WH.
Edit: Never mind, just realized that was already pointed out.

Did you expect her to say anything else? Why would she pour gas on the fire by criticizing her? When behavior (taunting) becomes so common place that it is no longer remarkable, it becomes acceptable. I for one don't find taunting an opponent acceptable. If a kid on any team I have. coached or coach did/does that, they are on the bench immediately. It's called class and decorum as well as the title of this thread - sportsmanship.

When was the last time you went to a Bobcats game in the Convo? I don't think I have seen a single game in the last few years that didn't involve celebrations (by BOTH teams) on the floor after made 3's, dunks, etc... The Kent game at home this year, after Sin Carry hit a big three late, he ran the length of the court to get a close-up in the camera for tv. Our game at Michigan, Hunter Dickinson did a little dance at mid-court after hitting a three to close out the half. None of that stuff gets whistled. Whether you like it or not, it has become part of the game. Good luck putting all of that back in the imaginary box.
And I really hope they stay off your lawn.

There’s a big difference between celebrating and taunting/harassing. I think everyone on here knows the difference.

Just out of curiosity, I went back and checked the game thread for the final home game vs BGSU. Not one negative comment was made regarding Dwight "rocking the baby" towards the BG bench all the way up the floor after scoring on Sam Towns. Is that not taunting? OCF, you were there, according to your posts on the thread. Why wasn't Dwight called out for his antics? How many times this past year did we see OUR guys hit a 3 in front of the opponent bench and turn and stare at the bench after the make? I remember several. That's taunting, also, right?
For the record, I loved it. Towns gave it to our guys, Dwight gave it right back. It wasn't whistled on the floor, and ZERO of our fans complained about it on here.

This whole situation seems like the textbook definition of "making a mountain out of a mole hill" to me. I'm sick of hearing about it and seeing headlines about it.
Had it happened in some random rural high school gym, perhaps but not when it plays out in front of the largest crowd to ever see a national championship game.
Caitlin Clark, herself, said "I don't think Angel should be criticized at all."
She has no problem with the trash talking, and it happened TO HER. Why can't you let it go?
Did you expect her to say anything else? Why would she pour gas on the fire by criticizing her? When behavior (taunting) becomes so common place that it is no longer remarkable, it becomes acceptable. I for one don't find taunting an opponent acceptable. If a kid on any team I have. coached or coach did/does that, they are on the bench immediately. It's called class and decorum as well as the title of this thread - sportsmanship.
+1 Alan
There’s a big difference between celebrating and taunting/harassing. I think everyone on here knows the difference.
Agree. There's celebrating, there's taunting, and there's harassment and I believe this scenario falls under harassment.
I'm all for celebrating, won't hear a complaint from me on that.
I'm down for a good taunt here and there when the moment is right.
Harassment should be condemned, there's no place for it in sport.

I'm curious, what if Clark had decided to take matters in her own hands and took a swing at Reese like we saw during the Memphis/BGSU women's game?

She'd have been arrested just like the Memphis girl. And that would have been an even bigger black eye on the sport given the magnitude and attention on that game.
But she didn't. She walked away. She shook hands at the end. She talked to the press and has even defended Reese since the ordeal (because what else is she supposed to say in public?) while Reese is still feigning outrage and blabbering on about the Obamas.
The contrast in their behavior couldn't be more stark.
