Recruiting opinion based on the last few games I've watched:
And then there's the big guy that still stuns me: Wiznitzer. How on earth did so many high major power teams offer him? He's probably a proficient big in the MEAC, or Big South. But in any P5 conference, he's walk-on caliber at best.
+1
Preach
Bottom 7 in the Big South. Top 3, he would sit the bench mostly.

What I see is a 7 footer scoring easy baskets against undersized competition. Yes a handful of 3s at the end but not a single pass in the entire video.

None of it makes sense.
Instead of leading off the reel with 45 seconds of dunks against 6'2 guys, I would have rather seen solid screens without moving your feet and rebounding.
Incredible that Chris Mack pulled the trigger on this one.

At this point I want to see more of Hadaway. There is nothing to lose. He is more athletic and hustles more than a lot of guys in front of him. Let him play through some mistakes and get some time so we don't lose him in the portal. This is a guy that was regularly scoring 30 and 40 points in HS. The athletic ability is clearly there. Just needs to be refined. Put him at the 4. He might be a bit undersized but he will make up for it with his hustle I imagine.
Give me AJB, James, and Hadaway as much as possible. They are all clearly at a different level athletically than most of the roster.
Edit: I am not saying he needs to start, but I would give him a lot more time than he currently gets, which is almost nothing.

Also agree. Maybe the energy/hustle from Hadaway will rub off on the rest of the team.
I've seen crazier things happen.

Hadaway was the one I was most excited about among the freshman class.
What does Wiz do that Had can't? He might get beat out on some rebounds based on the size difference but I'm willing to test that theory in order to help Hadaway's development.
Will Wiz even be here next year?

7-footer with decent mobility and footwork. Can't ignore that and hope for the best when you get the kid on campus. Mack obviously realized that tapping into the kid's potential was more work than he was willing to invest. I suspect Wiz will be here next year and show modest improvement.

Agree with this as well. This season seems like it could go in any direction at this point and these three players are the types of athletes we want moving forward. Would love to see more of them on the court together the rest of the way. Nothing to lose at this point.

I think it’s 50/50 on Wiz being back. The modest improvement needs to start showing the rest of the way in order for that to happen imo.

I get this on hoping for the best with someone that is 7 foot. But honestly...what have you seen this year that says the Whiz has decent mobility and footwork? He can't set a screen without moving. He can't move to block shots. He is slow.

Totally agree....we have nothing to lose. The one thing about Hadaway is he hustles and does seem to have a nose for the ball. I also guarantee if Hadaway got the Whiz minutes that he'd get more rebounds than the Whiz.

Agreed. At this point, giving PT to guys that aren't part of the future seems like a bad decision. Get all four of those frosh more PT, when Dwight isn't on the floor, play smaller and play fast.

I'm as tired of bashing this kid as anyone, but the very first time I watched him I said two things.
- He cannot rebound.
- He cannot set screens.
Fast forward 6 months...
- He cannot rebound.
- He cannot set screens.
That should be his ONLY job. He should be an absolute pick and pop nightmare. He's 7ft and we have a cornucopia of 6-footers, they should be losing defenders behind him... he should be GOBBLING rebounds... instead he looks like new born horse.
How many MAC teams start a 6'7"(ish) C... Wiz should absolutely EAT... but far too often he gets EATEN.

Yea, I’m not seeing it with Wiz…and hoping for the best is a recipe for disaster. Finding post players has been a challenge for us recently outside of Dwight. I’m wondering if going for smaller players who play “big” should be the recruiting strategy moving forward.
Jon Smith was only 6’6 (listed anywhere from 6’5-6’7) but you’d think he was 6’10 with how he played.

I'm assuming there is no footage of him setting solid screens without moving his feet and rebounding. Also apparently none of him throwing a pass either.

If you can’t find the video on the internet, it probably never happened.

Why are you surprised? Look at the NFL. They pay numerous scouts big $$$, have significant film, have supposedly top front office and they WHIFF every year.
Wiz in HS probably didn't play many teams with opponents as big as he and so perhaps the recruiters saw potential when it wouldn't really be indicative of future competition . It is not like the coaches can time him in the 40 or shuttle or how high he can jump. College coaches ALL have big EGOs thinking they can coach a recruit up. It is only one scholly and if they need a big guy and nobody else is on the short list then they think if it doesn't pan out that at least they have someone tall to practice against everyday.

Just read an interesting sports article and wondered about under achievers.
Lenny earned the 2020 XXL Biggest Wave award after catching a 70-footer at Nazaré, Portugal . Death is a definite possibility for these Big Wave surfers, as proof, Brazilian surfer Márcio Freire died January 5th 2023 practicing at Nazare.
I wonder how many of OUr Bobcats struggle with trying to force things or think ahead or lack confidence that causes them to not perform as they are potentially capable of performing?
In an interview, surfer Kai Lenny said, "You run through scenarios, but it’s best to take each thing as it comes when you’re in the moment. I don’t want to say react, but when things are happening, take it as it comes. If you’re thinking too far ahead, you’re going to trip and fall. If you’re just in the moment, that’s how you’re probably going to get out of it.
Conditioning and strength training and skills practice are all components but wonder how much sports psychology training or conversation takes place at the NCAA level? Do Boals players think too much rather than to just play in the moment?
