Burris getting 12 minutes including a long run in the 1st half with JP on the bench was a surprise. After starting with an ugly 3 point attempt he finally looked good, hopefully got the jitters out of the way and is ready to contribute. As of now, I suspect he figured heavily into the 26-27 plans to replace JP.
Wait wait wait wait wait wait...you're saying that Burris is our backup PG and plans for the future?

I guess he was a PG in high school, but man I haven't seen anything out of him yet that would lead me to believe that's what he'll be playing at Ohio.
Yes. Burris was always sold as a Point Guard. He had offers from both Akron & Miami and committed to us BEFORE his massive senior year in which he nearly won the D1 state title and was 1st team all-state. With both Sheldon & Paveltzke on the way out, I would say as things stand he is our starting point guard next year. But of course, we know in today's world that can change in a heartbeat.

The little bit we have seen of him, he sure seems the opposite of timid - Wanting the ball and unafraid to launch. Ironically I am more concerned that he can be a reliable outside shooter more than I am about his ball distribution and defensive skills. If he can prove to be a serviceable shooter I think he is definitely a starting PG in the MAC.

Lastly, and this is not just about Burris although he was the person affected the other night. Why do many coaches, Boals included, substitute for players who seem to be finding their groove in a ball game? I know there are matchups and game conditions, etc., etc., but can a coach just go with their gut on what they are seeing on the court? It scares me to think they don’t see it. Maybe keep it simple sometimes. Anyone else feel this way?
I think this is a fair criticism of Boals. I think he has pre-game plans for subs and playing time and sometimes is not great at adjusting. Basketball is very much a game of momentum and it is a coaching skill to recognize when a guy has it and when a guy does not. My impression is he does not do that very much aside from the occasional angry sub when someone on the court does something specific that pisses him off.
