Yea, I also think you need Conners’ shooting in the starting 5. E2 is a spark off the bench.

Starters should be: Pavs, Conners, Elliott, Simmons, Hadaway
First guard off bench: Sheldon
First wing off bench: Breath
First post off bench: Evans
Kelley is a freak. Won his high school track team a state title as a junior and did not do track this spring to focus on basketball. Fisher is thin but smooth. And Burris was going to be a shooter if he didn't get hurt. Kuany is an unknown and I get crap for it but Carter Reese will fit in somewhere. The Carson Heideckers and Tommy Shmock's of the world have shown us that.
Reese could hit double figures against Defiance College.
You won't see him against the real competition.

Why is this myth still permeating that EE is not a shooter?
Pav, Simmons, and Breath should be locks. Hadaway just makes too many positive things happen to keep on the bench and the thought of a taller guy at the 3 again is exciting. I think EE gives a more well rounded impact than Conners (especially defensively) who is a three point specialist. I think Conners comes off the bench.

Elliott's the premier player I agree and I don't think anyone is permeating he's not a shooter. His FTA's nearly doubled his 3PA's. 77% of his overall shot selection also came inside the arc this past season.
He's an explosive playmaker who likes to get to the basket to date. The outside shot is probably/can be there -- we just don't have much evidence of it.
I don't think we can really go wrong with either direction. For me personally, a starting lineup with Conners seems more balanced and provides proven spacing that we need with his arsenal.

I'm the one who suggested Elliott's would harm spacing, largely because he just didn't take many threes last year. Only 22% of his shots were from 3 -- lower than everybody but Searls, Evans, and Pavs. And Pavs' season last year was the lowest rate of his career and there's at least something to suggest he could revert back.
Elliott took less than a three a game, and only took them at a rate of 3.2 per 100 possessions. Just not much to go on there.
To space the floor, you've got to take enough shots to convince opponents to guard you out there. Elliott didn't last year. He might going forward, but my comment was just based on the data.

Do the films show that he passed up open looks from deep OR did he act as a cutter without the ball to pull a defender away from a greenlighted shooter? Are many freshmen greenlighted to loft a lot of threes or does a coach encourage the unproven to provide spark elsewhere? I don't recall DJ being a prolific bomber until late in the season when Bassett started going off. Perhaps Elliott would have been a deep option if like Bassett the other team members started draining threes which never happened.

There have been plenty of Freshmen during Boals' tenure who have taken threes at a much higher rate than Elliott. I don't think it's likely that Boals' doesn't allow it. Clayton took 11.6/100 possessions, AJB 11.1, Roderick 12.9/100. Sears, Elmore, and Miles Brown all took ~5/100. Even Hadaway took them at a higher rate as a freshman, while shooting 15%.

Nice find. So cool that he can participate in leagues like this. Not sure that could have happened before. And, putting up big numbers of 40 and 33 points is nothing to sneeze at. The level of competition may be in question but, from the videos it looks like it's not at the rim so, that may translate a bit better even if it is against lesser comp.
I was going to say that my hope is that if we can get some serious production from (One of) Burris, Kuany or Evans, that will give us 8 solid players to work with... Pavs, Conners, Sheldon, Elliot, Hadaway, Simmons and Breath make 7. Jeff usually narrows it down to 8 when the "real" season begins. If it's Burris that makes the jump we will play a little smaller. If it's either Kuany or Evans then we will play big. Is it November yet?
Go Bobcats!

Simmons is also participating in the Kingdom Summer League.
Cool to see Burris, though. Looks like someone who is going to press for meaningful minutes this season.

This time last year I was excoriated for suggesting that Ajay Sheldon would see his court time diminish due to rising freshmen and other incoming talent. It will be even more evident this year unless he has somehow overcome his shooting and defensive liabilities.

This looks like a team that's going to need shooting. It would be great if Burris could provide some of that and push into the guard rotation.

Anyone remember the last pre-season when there wasn't one Bobcat player on the roster dealing with a significant ACL or foot injury that kept them out for a significant period of time...let alone the whole season? Seems like it happens every year.

Torvik Projections -
https://x.com/loganpadams/status/1945533505053552655?s=46...
Solid number projections for Pavs, Simmons, Hadaway, and Breath. 6+ RPG from 3 guys would certainly help our rebounding woes. Haven’t seen that since BVP, Carter, and Sears.
Just need to find some 3PT shooting between Pavs, Conners, Burris, and Sheldon to be a balanced team. As Logan Adams calls out, Torvik doesn’t project well for redshirts or incoming freshman.

Is anyone expecting Breath to average 10 and 6? Sign me up for this yesterday if it happens.

His career average as a starter at UNCG was 7ppg and 7rpg. So it isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibilities. Both of those years UNCG won 21 and 20 games. He was fifth in scoring on both teams that had quite a bit of firepower offensively.
He only scored double-figures 12 times in two years as a starter. He also had 13 double-digit rebounding games in that same span. I think it’s more likely rebounds are higher and on par with career average than it is for him to average double-figures unless he becomes the 4th go-to option.
Regardless, Breath gives us a lot of what we’ve needed in a 5.

For sure, I went down a rabbit hole just to see how likely it could be -- based on game logs and where he landed on the pecking order as a scoring option.
Big fan of the projected Breath-Simmons-Hadaway front court.

Even though his team fell short for the championship, Jesse was still named MVP of the Kingdom summer league. The more I see and read, the more I'm thinking he is going to get major minutes. His scoring averages were in line with two starters for the Buckeyes.

This would be huge if this experience can translate to success this season. Like someone said, if he even gives us half of this type of production he will be a regular guy in that rotation that includes Conners, Breath, Simmons, Elliott, Pavs, Hadaway and Sheldon. If he can be in the Top 8 and someone like Kuany or Evans can be the 9th (and a big) then we can slow roll guys like Fisher and Kelly. Optimistic!
