As an alum who takes great pride in my time at Ohio University, it’s disappointing to see how little emphasis the program seems to place on legacy players. Having a son who’s one of the top players in South Carolina, it’s tough to watch other schools—and even some I once competed against—embrace their legacies while we seem to miss that opportunity.
I want to be clear—this isn’t about asking for handouts or favors. My son has earned everything he’s achieved through hard work, dedication, and performance on the field. But for him not to be considered worthy of even one opportunity from a school and program I’ve poured into is extremely disheartening—not just for me, but for many other alumni who feel the same.
Legacy pride should mean something. It’s part of what builds tradition, connection, and culture within a program. I truly hope Ohio University will one day recognize the value of honoring that.

IMO Not enough people in the building currently understand the legacy or know who is a Bobcat. Should have had Rob Stover's and Andre Parker's kid off the top of my head. Should have been a priority. Hopefully they come through with an offer for Jayden.

It wouldn't surprise if they didn't recruit the Carolinas any more, and instead focus resources to Florida.
They currently have 0 players from North Carolina or South Carolina.
Did you play with Tremaine Scott? He's the rb coach and dl coach these days.

We have several very good legacy players who we did not give their kids a look and are doing well other places.

That's bothersome. Stop the insanity. I assumed with more of an Ohio feel as the GM this might end. If the staff needs to call old Valley Cat to check on a kid once in a while for some help I'm pretty bored.

If you look at his x account, he is followed by Logan Meyer and Tremayne Scott, so he’s on our radar. I just feel like everything is different now with the portal, etc. Do we even know how many D linemen we have coming back? Last year, four returning starters all jumped. Must be hard to be in a wait-and-see.
The OP here Mr. Abrams is an all-time great. Wish him all the best. Hopefully his son ends up here, too.

This situation makes no sense. How in the hell can someone on the staff not reach out to the Son of a former player! It says we offered on 247Sports. Are they wrong?

It would be nice and easy to pick up a legacy.
However, isn't it really on the parent to cultivate this?
At the MAC Championship at the Bash I sat with one of OUr former stars and met his young son. His son would have felt the love we who recognized the and showed the former player and perhaps started having feelings towards someday being a Bobcat. A Bobcat whether an athlete or a talented student.
How is OUr staff to know about someone living in Georgia or Timbuctoo with thousands of HS players unless they have seen the kid around at big games and bowl games for several years?
How do coaches tell the former player that their son/daughter isn't up to Bobcat standards and the kid would see better opportunities elsewhere?

It happens. Off the top of my head we currently have on roster Charlie Christopher (OSU), JT Haskins (Louisville), Jay Crable (Michigan), Richard Marsh (Utah), Mason Williams (Toledo), and Mike Taylor (Toledo) who didn’t choose or weren’t offered by their legacy school. Never an easy thing. Hopefully this one works out.

Add back in the day, kid named Davidson, dad was OSU all-American, brother was All-American, OSU never gave him time of day and he went here.

Perhaps the new AD could help launch something like this? I would imagine he has some familiarity and could help keep the Bobcat Football Family well connected.

Did he start that? I went down a small rabbit (ba dum ts) hole, but I saw he led and expanded most if not all fundraising efforts every stop he made.

I made a post yesterday and tried to explain to the Board that everything is upside down after Tim Albin left but I guess folks will find out the hard way eventually.
I spoke to an Insider about this particular young man and legacy recruiting in general and his response was a Frustrated NO COMMENT.
What does that tell you?

From everything I can tell, the new AD would be much in favor of legacy recruiting as he likes to develop a family-type feeling among ex-players, at least that's what's been reported.
I have not had a chance to meet him yet, but I plan to talk to him soon about an idea that I first broached to Jim Schaus: Honoring Arthur Carr, QB in 1903-04, with a banner or statue at Peden Stadium. Carr was OHIO's first African American football player and probably the first black QB at a predominantly white university. Schaus' response was legendarily stupid: "Well, we named a dorm after him, didn't we?" The tone of his reply implied that it absolved him of any responsibility to do anything further. I talked to him about this in the summer before the Howard game. I was hoping that he'd buy in, and that some announcement of the effort could be make at that game. His response infuriated me so much that I arranged for the following article in the Athens News the week of the Howard game:

Sorry for the thread drift, Bobcatblitz, but this just lead to some stream of consciousness writing.

Some of you really seem to think we have more money and resources than we actually do. Join us in real life, please. I'm sure Alabama has an entire building on campus devoted to recruiting legacy players, with a special wing for statue building, but we have barely enough money to focus on what's right in front of us. Stop asking what Ohio can do for you. Be change if you want change. Also, donate change. but when you donate change, don't assume that's enough money to grant you personal favors. We're just trying to keep the coffers half full. Winning 10 games three years in a row and beating P5 teams on our budget is a goddamn miracle.
