I really believe we should be holding the MAC more accountable for some of the revenue shortfalls. Optimizing media rights, increasing exposure, bowl revenues and tie-ins, CFP access, basketball revenues. Steinbrecher is a problem, as is his staff.
...we should be working hand in hand with Miami on strategic planning. I would argue (correctly or incorrectly) that we are the two most valuable brands in the conference. I really believe we should be working with them to evaluate all strategic alternatives to generate increased revenue. Whether that includes conference affiliation, a higher portion of conference revenue, etc etc - I don't know - but we should be working together on an Executive/Strategic level.
I wholeheartedly agree with these points. I would add Toledo to our strategic planning.
I think alumni/fan engagement (and revenue) naturally follow once you've shown you're not willing to settle for the status quo. We haven't shown that yet.
Steinbrecher should feel shame every time he deposits a paycheck.

I am not taking sides in this money spat but to think there are not opportunities to reduce costs at the university is very questionable in my opinion. How the saved money is ultimately used would of course be open to discussion (maybe we’d just reduce tuition) but I am sure there are programs that bring limited to no real value. Bringing up tenure to investigate would open up its own can of worms although I will admit being the lone wolf in that endeavor would be challenging. In my 32 years of working for a rather large corporation I went through three major reorganizations when many people lost their jobs. I was fortunate to survive them but let me tell you they were not pleasant experiences. Perhaps some of you have experienced the same. Most of the time is was not a matter of doing a good job. I really see no reason why all organizations, public and private, shouldn’t encounter the same scrutiny. My point is money could be found to at least begin discussions about where it’s spent.
The Graduate Assistants for the Football program make about $800 a month even after their 1% raise a few years ago. But yes let's worry about the HC making $300,000 more who has no problems getting by after making $200,000+ in Athens, OH for 20 years. Additionally, at Ohio University we are not allowed the Quality Control coaches that other schools have because to Coach on the field as a non-employee you need to be enrolled in school. Not to mention the limited amount of support staff who also barely making it by. But yeah lets cut programs around campus so we can have a decent Football coach for a couple more years before he evidently leaves.
I left it open for discussion where the money would be spent. Didn’t say it would all go to head coach or even necessarily to the athletics department for that matter. Just identifying a source for more money.

Yes, we should cut the salaries of the people on the top (where the problem is) and help the people like the GAs and Support Staff so they dont have to sacrifice in an era where everyone is complaining about the cost of living. There is no reason a GA should be making $800 a month when you can barely find housing under $600 a month in Athens while having to take the most classes in the MAC and doing the work of a GA and Quality Control Coach.

I would tend to agree on the surface that if money was designated for athletics the GAs and Support Staff should see a significant bump.

Supply and demand...there are countless people wanting those positions and willing to do it for next to nothing, many of them very talented hard workers. Doesn't mean they don't work hard or do a great job. It's the same discussion we've had regarding Russ Eisenstein and broadcaster pay.

Some of you all must not read very well, because even though I disagree with his concept of how, B-Love has definitely laid out his revenue plans. So you all asking him what his plans are, he’s told you for months now!
According to B-Love, we should get $10-12 million next year from our non league schedule and the basketball team should maximize theirs as well. He ain’t wrong in that we need more money games, but I don’t see how we can wildcat it to demand that kind of money without anyone else.

Unfortunately, that’s not happened. Smallest and poorest paid staff in the league.

The point is not the fact that many people are willing to do those jobs. He suggested we find jobs to cut around campus to find money, my post likely informed people of other issues that need to be fixed other than just paying one guy. Education salaries are a joke, do you think these people are going to take a pay cut? Why would they cut their salaries? If anything, the new money we might get will continue to inflate the salaries of the wrong people while our program regresses again. People on this board are optimistic about Ohio growing in the the national college football landscape. How do you make Ohio an attractive job in this era of College Football when you tell your GA he wont be able to make rent? How do you attract a Head Coach from outside of the program when you tell them he has to convince people to enroll in Graduate School with limited opportunities to make extra cash other than lyft? We depend on Undergraduate Students to be our Quality Control. Better yet, with all this in mind, how do we keep a coach and his staff when we only give bonuses to the HC and don't reward a bigger a support staff pool to continue success, i.e Indiana. The Athletic Department and the Coaches should care more about the people who do the work, we aren't living in the 70s.

Secondarily, I really believe we should be holding the MAC more accountable for some of the revenue shortfalls. Optimizing media rights, increasing exposure, bowl revenues and tie-ins, CFP access, basketball revenues....it's clear Steinbrecher is a complete moron. His last statement about college athletics was about....Sportsmanship. He was walking around Detroit with a completely blank stare on his face. Gloria Navarez is already trying to raid the conference. This thing is a dumpster fire and it starts at the top. Steinbrecher is a problem, as is his staff.
Out of all the stuff you said this is the one that sticks out to me and I agree. The MAC has done literally nothing to help this conference's situation that it's currently in financially. We're all dead broke and they share in a lot of that responsibility. They simply accepted the checks for what they were that ESPN handed them for MACtion and the championship games. Look no further than the garbage TV scheduling for the MAC Tournament. Hey what channel are we on? ESPN+? CBS Sports? ESPN2? What a great idea to raise fan interest; have them bounce around between platforms so you hear different announcers for every game re-introducing the same narrative over and over rather than building a story.
I once thought that the conference's stance on staying pat for conference realignment was a blessing, but it may end up being their undoing. The regionality is great to keep costs down for school and fan travel, and it's nice to for all schools to have relatively the same goals, but my god this conference is boring as hell right now. How aggressive were they when WKU showed interest? Was Marshall even approached? (highly unlikely they would come back anyway, but them AND WKU would have helped) Awesome, you got UMass back, who else are you looking at? What else is in the pipeline? The only news we ever hear about this conference is usually from the beat report up in Toledo, who usually has more answers than the conference office itself.

I would invest in the Hawk Tuah Coin right now before I would invest in Jon Steinbrecher.....
