Always love coming on here when we win and it sounds like from BA posters we didn’t.

Solid game all around. I was worried about Navarro in the first quarter but he ended up being entirely serviceable. I hope the DBS are healthy by MAC Play though DJ Walker popped with a couple of big plays.

It was a nice win. I loved the QB draw for a TD. In future games the DBs will have to keep their eye on the QB and not just the receivers. For the same reason, I loved the Tyus TD at Syracuse on the option. Future teams will have to spend time preparing to defend the option, and not just the traps and zone runs.

Much better QB play, but has to be a down field threat if offense is going to continue to run the ball.

Haven't given up a first qtr pt this season, but haven't scored a first qtr TD either. Three first qtr FGs is all we've had.

That push on the last drive was awesome. I think they said we got an extra 22 yds.

A nice win but the game would likely have been a lot different if SBama had their #1 QB in. Davenport was good but cracked under pressure.

Their special teams bit them again this week. The muffed punt set up a TD. Last week their punter kicked the ball into one of his own players and it caromed into the end zone for a UNT TD.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

That pathetic flop personal foul seemed to change the momentum. The defense stepped up and the offense controlled the ball afterward.

It was nice to see some of the other offensive players get involved more. It seemed like mostly Tyus and Owen against Syracuse.

We did catch a huge break having their QB1 missing the game. I kept wanting to call their QB Bishop Sycamore.

I thought the biggest step from week 1 to week 2 was how Navarro spread out his targets more.

Looked to me that Navarro locked in on Owen too much (10 of 18 completed passes to Owen) at Syracuse. Much more variety v. USA with Owen still the leading receiver with 5 catches but Hendricks and Harris had 4 each, Gossett had 3 and Mason Williams had 2 after no receptions by a tight end v. Syracuse.

I'll contribute to that by adding that the 8 flags for 86 yards called on Ohio by the mystery refs from parts unknown certainly helped keep South Bama in the game.

The second roughing the passer was clearly correct. The first was bull crap.

I saw the game in person and came away from it generally positive about the Bobcats, including the great turn out inside Peden to see the game. Offensively, for the Bobcats, early on, the problems seemed to be related to failed execution and consistency. Not clear if this was related to poor preparation or Adolescent Minds that are not always as focused as one might hope. To hear Albin interviewed before the game, you would have thought that the Coaching Staff was going to have turn to Volunteers from the stands in order to fill the depleted secondary based on the number of injuries that they experienced from last week against Syracuse. However, the secondary did not look bad, and South Alabama’s #2 quarterback seemed solid to me most of the time, though the outcome of this game might have been different if South Alabama had their highly touted #1 quarterback in the game. In addition, I thought the Cats were physically solid up front on both sides of the ball. What seemed to hurt the ‘Cats the most were stupid penalties, whether or not you want to blame them on the referees or not, and our quarterback’s one fumble. We also appeared to let South Alabama hang around longer than one would have hoped, almost as though we lacked the killer instinct needed to put them away. That said, South Alabama didn’t seem exactly like a pushover.

My biggest concern moving forward are injuries, and I am not happy about the fact that, like Syracuse, we are going to be playing bigger and more athletic players during our trip to Kentucky in a couple of weeks. If we can stay healthy, I think we will do well in the MAC. Seeing how Northern Illinois pulled off the thought to be impossible upset of #5 Notre Dame, it will be interesting to see how the whole NIL landscape has either improved or diminished the capacity of our opponents in the MAC. If nothing else, it will be an entertaining season.

I will take a win and not worry about the USA #1 being out. I saw a lot of good from our boys in this win. I have no idea how an official can keep his job after calling that BS flop. Even the announcers kept playing it back and laughing. Joke.

Navarro made me feel better with his 2nd half performance.

I watched BGSU battle PSU. I am certain BG has benefited from the portal. Had another TV on the NIU game. I am not sure if the portal helped them out. I had the volume down. What I can say with certainty is both NIU and BG traded punches with their opponent the entire game.

One of my favorite things to see unfold this week will be.....how much #5 falls after the loss and if PSU is kept propped up in the Top 10 after a narrow win. PSU line: -35.5. Notre Lame line: -28.5.

This was an Albin special win with great clock management. Getting that quick score before halftime, then getting the ball back in 2H for a 6:14 TD drive was huge. Timely stops on defense and solid special teams.

I was also worried about Navarro in the first half. Deep passes are going to be a rarity this season, so a high completion percentage will be crucial. His scrambling ability is the X factor, especially in the redzone.

Depth and playmaking ability are a concern on defense right now, still a few weeks to tune up before MAC play.

I like this squad. We should be in the mix for Detroit along with Miami, NIU, BGSU, and Toledo.
What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

I was at the game and never realized Lopez wasn't in the game. Knowing they threw for 400+ yards last week I was surprised by some of the missed throws and pleased with the players of all the backups in the secondary. Learning this today has dampened by enthusiasm a bit.

Crowd sounds like a madhouse on ESPN+. Weather nice. The Hendricks TD was a jolt. Hopefully not too many bolt for OSU.
Hats off the Student section, whether it was students or not. That was one of the more sustained and vocal crowds I have heard in many seasons. Reminded me of a meaningful MAC late season crowd. Dare I say, even visions of a Marshall scream-fest?
.

However, I had to leave at half with young kids. Numbers appeared to taper off at half per ESPN+ feed.

I noticed on the broadcast people leaving after the Navarro rushing touchdown. Probably felt the lead was safe, but it really wasnt.

I think a lot of band day parents left after halftime.

Drove from Cincinnati to the game last night. I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting much. However, looks like the transfers and newbies played very well. I have to agree when we opened it up we had our best drives. The first was at the end of the half of the second was at the end of the game. More play calling like that and we might be dangerous.

I was at the game and came away with the thought that if the South Alabama receivers dropped as many passes last week as they did this week (thank you), their #1QB could not possibly have had a 400-yard game. I saw some good things. Navarro seemed to have a rhythm with the receivers. The running game looks solid though not as spectacular as against Cuse. The defensive line got good pressure on the QB. And most importantly we did not wilt when it looked like the momentum turned in their favor. And some not so good things. The penalties, especially on defense, though I did not have the benefit of replay, so maybe they weren't as bad as they appeared. And thank goodness the holding call on the punt came AFTER the kick. While the D line played well, the d-backs seemed to be losing their man, especially down the sidelines. But that could be due to some new faces back there due to injury. I have no idea why S. Alabama kept throwing the short crossing route. That seemed to be the play we defensed best. All in all it was a happy drive back to Cleveland.

Yes, he was out, but so were a large number of Ohio players. Injuries happen to all teams.

LC is correct. The Bobcats were missing many defensive players. A few of these players are out for the season. Great performance for the D considering all the injuries.

Dont know if QB2 is good or we made him look good - but I'll take the W however we can get it.

Statistically their QB was about even with Navarro, and we had defensive starters out. Don't discredit the win. Don't apologize for it. Don't give it back.

Do we think he enjoyed his time in Athens? Does anyone know if we slipped him a business card? Would happily take him in green and white next season. I think that was his first ever start. Sure didn't look it.
