Nice to see these tougher slates. Hopefully the coffers will be filled and there will be plenty of bottled water for home openers.
Will definitely need to bolster the QB room before next season!

What are the odds that WV and Cincy cancel on us?
More likely Cincinnati. WVU is set to play in Athens before we play two in Morgantown. Cincinnati still has to cut a four game non conference slate down to three per Big 12 scheduling rules. They could buy us out or kick the game down the road... again.
Is that supposed to be the second half of the home and home from like 2018?
Yes, the game was supposed to be played in 2020 and than was moved to 2026.

Serious questions: When did bottled water become available at football games? And how did fans survive on a hot day before bottled water was available? Has bottled water become an emergency health necessity at outdoor sporting events?

I would imagine fans could bring water into the arena in the past. The terrorism threats have apparently tightened security. Also, water faucets used to be more plentiful in most places.

It will be a real challenge to stay healthy through that 2025 stretch against Rutgers, WVU and OSU, but depending on the game results, I imagine the players could really love this schedule.
Great to play OSU again though. It took them 13 years to get over the Rufus incident apparently. ;)
Also, excited to play Nebraska. I imagine this game would might not have been possible with a Solich-led OHIO team.
And the one match up I still want to see at some point is OHIO vs. Michigan. We still have yet to play the Wolverines in football. Might help their fans to tell the difference between the 2 Ohio schools too. ;)
Again I must ask why you'd be more concerned about our health here. Is there any evidence that g5/p5 games lead to more injuries? This conventional wisdom has never been backed by any actual information. I don't know why it keeps turning up.
Glad you called this out. It’s a complete myth. As but one example, I remember in one of the games we played against Pitt they had numerous players go down with injuries and we had virtually none. The worst single game for OHIO injuries was a game against Marshall in 1965 when we had something like seven season-ending injuries. I did not see that game as I was on active duty in the U.S. Navy at the time, but I read about it.
I remember my freshman year we played Marshall on the road and I listened to the game in my Ryors Hall dorm room, 1977. I think we had at least 7 injuries and maybe more. Starting QB out for the season(can’t recall his name). A promising season gone sour.

Thanks for the memory correction. The bad injury situation against Marshall was 1977. I was kind of consolidating two memories. What I remember about the 1965 winless season was getting my portable shortwave radio out on deck each Saturday and listening for the Ohio score on Armed Forces Radio. Each week it was a loss, of course. I suspect we had lots of injuries that year, too, but it wasn't against Marshall as that was the last game of the year.

Don't love it but I believe it makes sense because it helps recruiting to play OSU. Hoping we can keep it semi-respectable within 30-40 points like BG did against Michigan and not get blased 80-0 or something.
Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Fiami @ Peden with 25,086 fans
2023 10-7 near shutout of Iowa State @ Solich Field
2025 17-10 defeat of WVU @ Peden in front of 26,740

Agree DFC! Win the game Saturday! Although playing three power five teams to open the season in 2025 is not ideal. Very few MAC schools do that and have any type of success. I'm guessing if MAC schools do play three power five schools in one season, they have an FCS school sprinkled in between and do not play all three consecutively.

I was also a freshman '77 in Ryors Hall - 1st floor w/you also I think. I have to admit at that time I had no idea Marshall even existed - I decided to come to OU last minute after initially getting accepted to to$u where I was born at the hospital there when my parents were students there - and they are both still die hard bucknuts. Only thing I remember about OU football my first couple years here is the 110...and those are great memories!

Fair enough point that playing against a P5 team doesn't necessarily mean that you have a higher chance of injuries (we would need someone to compile some statistics to prove that one way or the other -- otherwise it's all a matter of opinion). But, I was more referring to the fact that we are playing 3 straight P5 teams back-to-back and I am worried about the potential lead to injuries by wearing down the team. The flipside to that conversation being if we hang in there with the P5 schools while staying healthy, we could be primed and ready to make a run in our MAC slate.
But, to play devil's advocate against that apprehension, there is also the fact that the gap between the G5 and P5 has closed more in recent years. I remember back when we beat Pitt how big of thing it was considered to be just to upset a P5 school and how we were hailed as heroes by other MAC teams. Now, we pretty much expect that MAC schools will upset a P5 school every couple of weeks around the start of the season.

I love this question. Drinking water access should be as expected as working bathrooms. Not being allowed to bring drinking water somewhere is criminal and drinking fountains should be everywhere.
Part of it is everyone has gotten prissy with water. Did you know not only are there people who insist on only bottled water but that they hate and refuse certain brands of water and insist upon others. I can't wrap my head around that...I don't think I was meant to live in this era.

Now, we pretty much expect that MAC schools will upset a P5 school every couple of weeks around the start of the season.
If I recall correctly the MAC had 7 P5 wins in 2012. The MAC also in 2003 defeated multiple ranked P5 teams in the same weekend and finished the season with 3 ranked teams in the AP poll. I would say the MAC's performance against the P5 has declined in recent years however mediocre MAC programs those with records 6-6 and below have only pulled out P5 wins the past 10-15 years.
A P5 win was once only in the realm of a good MAC football team but they delivered on that more often. It might be because of playing more P5 back then as Ohio for example normally plays only 1 P5.
Winning percentage of the MAC against FCS programs appears to have dropped off some, partially because FCS programs are now taking the sport more seriously than in the past. Patriot League and NEC have up their football scholarships and coaching.

Speaking of drinking fountains, can anyone tell me the last time the nice fountain donated by an OHIO graduating class (circa 1940s?) that is in back of Chubb Hall has actually worked? Why the H- can't we get it fixed?

Guess they didn't know the Missile from Mississauga, Callum Wither would be a Junior.
And Marshall fans threw BATTERIES at us.
I can take some heckles from drunk 50 year olds at OSU, just no more AAA's please.

Hmm. . . I thought you were complaining about something serious like car batteries! What's a few triple As among friendly rivals? At Toledo high school games they throw knives. Just trying to place things in perspective.
[And, yes, for the sarcastically deficient, there was a little bit of it in this post.]

In this day and age, I would not be surprised that some sort of study hasn’t been done by some Masters student somewhere. There may not be much correlation because injuries seem to be pretty random, but simple physics would seem to support the theory that bigger/faster/stronger would cause more injuries for the smaller/slower/weaker players.

It will be a real challenge to stay healthy through that 2025 stretch against Rutgers, WVU and OSU, but depending on the game results, I imagine the players could really love this schedule.

But, P5 guys are not always, or usually, bigger/faster/stronger than the G5 guy they are opposing. They may be better in one or two of those categories much of the time, but seldom all three at the same time. And, from my own anecdotal observations, OHIO and other teams I follow are more likely to have more and more serious injuries against lesser competition -- perhaps because they are less focused on what they are doing and therefore make an awkward move or allow themselves to be tackled in a less than ideal position because they aren't focused on the fundamentals.

Of course they aren’t always all those things, but I’m talking about averages. The P5 average all those things over most G5 teams’ players. I’ve checked for studies on this a little and can’t find any kind of definitive study, but there are dozens on studies on injuries in general. The raw data are available, nobody seems to have addressed this particular issue, but it almost certainly could be done if someone would be so inclined.
As far as your observations, they may be correct , just not sure how statistically valid those would be based on sample size, even though you go back to the first football game between Rutgers and Princeton in 1869.
