Ohio Stadium is no treat.

Take your Miami in the morning. Eat at a tailgate, sneak in your beverage and in-and-out for relief on an official review and Peden is the friendliest cost wise to the University facility to watch good football in the country. We are only talking 6 game utilization; why spend a dime more than needed for such little utilization?

As for the Navy, that must be where those $25,000 toilet seats can be found?
If I had to give the stadium an overall grade I'd give it a B. Good enough to recommend overall and the exterior is very presentable. Why not have it as nice as what it could possibly be?

Its true Peden only has 6 games a year but 125,000 walk through the turnstiles. Basketball has what 50,000 across all games? If the goal is to motivate alumni to open their wallets it makes sense to have the stadium looking as nice as possible not to mention the football team and entire athletic department is utilizing facilities at the stadium on a daily basis.

2023 10-7 near shutout of Iowa State @ Solich Field
2025 17-10 defeat of WVU @ Peden in front of 26,740

I have not attempted to do a serious estimate to try to determine how many it would add but it appears to me that a potential way to add 300-400 premium seats would be to square off the upper corners on the tower side. Might even be cost effective compared to other similarly sized options. A couple steel supports and concrete work?
Squaring off the tower would add 400 seats. The stadium I think would look bigger that why also. Do the same thing with a tower on the other side and that adds another 1400 seats. Another 1800 seat plus luxury boxes would take it close to another 2500 premium seats.

Interestingly I was loking at top attended game per era and also size of alumni base per year. Definitely shows the stadium can support more seats. The alumni base is still growing, projected to be about 20% larger by 2040.

Average of top attended game.
1980-1994 14,974
1995-2009 20,566
2010-2025 23,332

Size of alumni base by year.
1980 105,000
1995 155,000
2010 200,000
2025 285,000
2040 350,000 (projected)

This does not factor in what the attendance would be like if Ohio was undefeated and had an inside track to a CFP berth.

I can't get behind this line of thinking. Just because you're only using it six times a year doesn't mean you can't make it better than what it currently is. So what, you don't make any upgrades and just wait till the thing becomes completely obsolete? Ohio doesn't have the funds to do major renovations without a spike in donations, but you also don't have to just sit on your hands and do nothing because "well, hell, you only use the stadium six times a year so who cares anyway, right?"

I think you start losing fans at some point that way. Especially in this day and age when a more spruced up venue is what a lot of newer fans are looking for. Us here on this board may find Peden charming in it's current state, but I don't think this board represents the feeling of an average fan or alum.

Wrigley Field and Fenway Park, do they lose fans over the years as those ancient relics have nothing in common with all the new ball parks?

As long as deemed safe, I am fine with current day Peden.

Ah, Alan Swank's favorite OHIO AD of all time, used to refer to Peden as the "Wrigley Field of college football."
